About Deadgrass…

Web music authority All Music Guide, calls Matt Turk “...an artist to be reckoned with.” Matt is a seasoned recording artist, multi-instrumentalist, eternal idealist and compassionate peace loving realist. Based out of Hastings-on-Hudson, New York, Matt is a veteran performer who has engaged audiences around the world. He has shared the stage with Pete Seeger and opened for Judy Collins, The Doobie Brothers, Fiona Apple, the Grateful Dead‘s Mickey Hart and more. He has performed throughout the USA, Europe, Israel and the Caribbean, appearing at festivals including Clearwater’s Great Hudson River Revival, Gathering of the Vibes, Atlanta’s Music Midtown, Jazz at Lincoln Center and venues including The Beacon Theatre and Brooklyn Bowl.

Grammy award winner C Lanzbom has spent years as a studio and touring guitarist. Well traveled in the Middle East, C absorbed Israel-Arabic musical rhythms of the region, fusing these ancient tones with the rock and roll he grew up with along the Jersey shore. C’s performing, writing, engineering and producing credits include his own internationally acclaimed band Soulfarm, American Idol finalist Crystal Bowersox, Shlomo Carlbach, and Pete Seeger with Bruce Springsteen. C also has numerous television and film song placements. When not touring, C runs and owns Sherwood Ridge Studio, a state-of-the-art recording facility just north of New York City. C brings his unique sound around the world and his affection and passion for Jerry Garcia‘s music has been a major influence.

Fiddler Clarence Ferrari is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and music educator who has toured extensively throughout North America and Europe, including appearances at the Kennedy Center and Chicago Symphony Space, specializing in Celtic and Bluegrass fiddle. Clarence has performed on dozens of records, television shows and films including The Astronaut Farmer and appeared alongside many well-known performers including Pete Seeger, Roland White and Rosanne Cash.

Bassist Dave Richards has recorded and performed with The Indigo Girls, Rosanne Cash, Marshall Crenshaw, Buster Poindexter, Madeline Peyroux, Jewel, Richie Havens and others. He has toured throughout Europe, Canada and the US, appearing at Ottawa Jazz, Toronto Blues Festival and Austin City Limits Festivals. Born in Palo Alto, California, at the age of 17 he was playing jazz five nights a week in Orlando, Florida with Billy Peebles, the drummer for Ray Charles on many classic Atlantic recordings. Dave lives with his wife, singer-songwriter, Jane Kelly Williams and daughter in Northern NJ .

Banjo player Russell Gottlieb brings a wistful and propulsive sound to the banjo by drawing on influences ranging from rock to jazz and bluegrass to minimalism, without adhering too closely to stereotypes. Russell has toured extensively in the US as a founding member of the New Jersey based The Brummy Brothers, appearing at the Gathering of the Vibes, Catskill Chill, Philadelphia Folk Festival, Brooklyn Bowl, Nectar’s, and World Cafe Live, opening for Melvin Seals and JGB, Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams, and Leftover Salmon, to name a few. Additionally, Russell has worked on several studio recordings as a leader and sideman and continues to perform with various groups in the greater NYC and Philadelphia areas.

Serge Clivio is thrilled to return home to The Regent Theatre for one night only to present Sticks & Stones.  The title and idea of the concert comes directly from his newly released single “Fire Away” (available for download from iTunes and streaming on Apple Music and Spotify.  During the concert, Serge will perform a few original songs as well as an array of pop favorites (old & new)—some country, R&B and even classic rock songs that audiences of all ages will enjoy.  He will guide the audience through a journey of love, heartbreak and growing up, through intimate stories and personal songs—accompanied by a band of excellent musicians.

Sticks & Stones is music directed by Michael Stapleton and will run approximately 2 hours (including a 15 minute intermission).

About Serge Clivio
Serge is a Massachusetts native, born in Waltham.  But, if you ask him, he would tell you that he spent pretty much all of his childhood and teen years in Arlington.  Serge attended elementary school at Saint Agnes and high school at Arlington Catholic.  He found his love for performing at the age of 5 on Medford Street at an after school program called Mo-Co Music (now Torch Light Music School).  Here, kids were able to learn how to sing, act, and perform from a very young age.  Directed and owned by Maura Lynch and Clyde Ford, Serge soon went on to make this studio his second home for the next 12 years.  He immediately began performing at the Regent Theatre with Mo-Co Music, and then went on to perform there with the Arlington Catholic Drama Club, as well as doing some benefit and anniversary shows for them.  He was even given one of his first jobs behind the concession stand at the Regent!  At Arlington Catholic, Serge found his true love - the theater.  Thanks to Jacqueline Billings (his high school drama director) he was able to perform in all of the school’s winter and spring musicals.  Serge knew that he wanted to pursue Musical Theatre for the rest of his life.  And, after many stressful college auditions, he found himself on his way to The Boston Conservatory, where he proudly graduated with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre in May of 2017.  During college, Serge was able to perform in different shows throughout the regional theatre circuit, for which he earned his Actors’ Equity Association card.  Out of college, Serge most recently auditioned for the ABC television reboot of American Idol, premiering on March 11th, for which he made it to the final round of the preliminary stages.  He is now currently residing in New York City and continuing to chase his never-ending dreams!  Follow Serge on social media @serge_clivio and visit his website to stay up to date on all of his latest news and performances!

Every holiday season, countless millions from all over the world gather around television screens to watch their favorite Christmas movies. It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (in all its many versions), A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and of course, The Polar Express, are all universally beloved holiday movies.

But no list of classic Christmas movies could ever be complete without including 1954’s White Christmas starring Bing Crosby.

White Christmas was a Paramount picture and was the first-ever movie filmed in the then-breakthrough wide screen wonder VistaVision.

White Christmas was released on October 14, 1954. It premiered at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Variety gave the film a thumbs up, saying: White Christmas should be a natural hit at the box office… ...Crosby and Kaye keep the entertainment going… ...clicking so well the team should call for a repeat…. White Christmas proved a financial bonanza, earning over $12 million dollars at the box office (a Star Wars-like amount in 1954). In fact, White Christmas was the biggest movie hit of the year.

See it now on the big screen accompanied by the Regent Theatre’s concert sound system!

About Rebecca Parris…

Born to a family of musicians and educators in Newton, Massachusetts, Rebecca Parris has been performing her entire life.

Parris began her professional career at the age of 6 in musical theater.  As an adult, she began working with various top 40 bands in the Northeast before finding her true musical passion in the Jazz world. Since then, Rebecca has performed with her own groups, as well as with some of Jazz’s greatest legends, including Gary Burton, Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Terry Gibbs and many others.

In addition to numerous GRAMMY nominations, Rebecca is a 9-time Boston Music Awards winner and has performed at major jazz festivals worldwide, including a tour of Japan with the Monterey Jazz Festival All-Stars.

Rebecca will be back in the studio soon, working on a new recording with renowned pianist Mike Renzi for a late Spring/early Summer release date.

You cannot listen to Parris for more than a few moments without being startled by her talent – startled by the range and subtlety and power of her voice. I hear a little Carmen McRae when I listen to Rebecca, says Ron DellaChiesa, the jazz DJ at WGBH in Boston. ...and a little Sarah Vaughan. I think she’s on that level. Her phrasing is what is most extraordinary. She never sings a song the same way twice in a row.

Please join us for holiday songs and jazz standards courtesy of one of Boston’s musical treasures, Rebecca Parris!

“… Parris gives fresh life to standards and a new gleam to superb, lesser-known gems. Her intelligence, class, and masterful musicianship have long been respected among her peers….” -J. Schlesinger, AllAboutJazz.com

“Her voice sets her apart from any other vocalist on record today. A mood that transcends the ordinary, that in one moment exudes warmth and is poignant, in another driving hard and swinging.”  -Shirley Horn

“Best of all, she sings with power, conviction, originality, total believability. She is that rare bird: the true jazz singer with the soul of an entertainer.”
-Fred Bouchard, Jazz Times

About ELP | The Birth of a Band

Continuing our series commemorating Oscar-Winning documentary director Murray Lerner, we are pleased to present Emerson Lake & Palmer “The Birth Of A Band.” It was ELP’s first proper live concert, their only previous gig having been a warm up in Plymouth the previous night. Playing in front of 600,000 people, at what remains the biggest festival in rock history, they became overnight stars with the press raving about their virtuosity and daring. They would go on from here to become multi-million selling artists, but this unique film—from the historic August 29, 1970 Isle of Wight Festival—is there right at the beginning.

About ERUPTION

Inspired by a deep respect for the innovative music of Emerson,Lake & Palmer, the four talented and dedicated musicians that comprise Eruption endeavor to go beyond a mere tribute. Without a single costume or wig in sight, they meticulously recreate the repertoire of the progressive rock movement’s first supergroup inviting their audience to immerse themselves in the bold and dazzling fusion of classical, jazz and rock that made ELP the groundbreakers that they were.

Few musicians are talented enough(or perhaps crazy enough) to take on the intricate pieces that make up ELP’s collected works but these four hardworking musicians - Steve Baker on keyboards, Ron Stewart on drums, Bill Plourde on guitar and vocals, and Bill Drake on bass guitar succeed in a way that must be experienced to be believed!

Going beyond statistics, social media and bold headlines, storytellers share personal and intimate stories of struggles and triumphs that inspire listeners to take action and make positive change in their community and in the world. Walk a Mile is a call-to-action that challenges people to do more than just empathize, listen and learn.

Critical to the success of each event is inspiring audience members to take action after listening to the storytellers. Social impact groups and non-profits that work to support the storytellers with programs and services will also be present and will engage with audience members. These groups will come equipped with a concrete spectrum of ways that the audience can get involved and further support their work. We make it easy to put your inspiration into action!

Reclaiming Home is the first of four events in the 2017-2018 Walk A Mile series.
Our website will be available soon! In the meantime, learn more about upcoming Walk A Mile events on our Facebook page and follow us on Twitter @walkamilestories.

Special Guest Appearance:

Dweezil Zappa for a special QUESTION & ANSWER Session!

In the feature documentary, Summer ‘82 - When Zappa Came to Sicily, filmmaker and Zappa fan Salvo Cuccia tells the behind-the-scenes story of Frank Zappa’s star-crossed concert in Palermo, Sicily, the wrap-up to a European tour that ended in public disturbances and police intervention. Cuccia had a ticket to the concert but never made it.

Thirty years later, collaborating with Zappa’s family, he re-creates the events through a combination of rare concert and backstage footage; photographs; anecdotes from family, band members, and concertgoers; and insights from Zappa biographer and friend Massimo Bassoli. The story is also a personal one, as Cuccia interweaves the story of Zappa’s trip to Sicily with his own memories from that summer.

The film looks at the rise and heyday of Frank Zappa’s career as an innovative composer and libertarian provocateur, and includes tales of the relationship of a busy father with his children.

While in Sicily for the concert, Zappa visited Partinico, the birthplace of his father and grandfather; and in the film’s warm and loving coda, three of Zappa’s children, Dweezil, Moon, Diva and his wife Gail, return to meet their relatives there for the first time.

The Genesis Show is a Genesis Tribute Band that focuses on the Phil Collins era of the band specifically 1976-1982. For this show, The Genesis Show will be performing the music of Genesis from the ‘77 Wind & Wuthering Tour, also known as The Seconds Out Tour, from which their classic Seconds Out live album was recorded. With two drummers and lots of vintage gear The Genesis Show faithfully reproduces the Live sound Genesis had in the mid-1970’s.
Genesis added Chester Thomson as the live drummer for that ‘77 Tour so Phil Collins could step out from behind the drum kit to sing. Chester brought even power and groove to the bands songs really changing the dynamic of the band. The live versions of Supper’s Ready, Squonk and The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway/Musical Box as well as all of their songs suddenly had more power, groove, and urgency. This era of Genesis was the band at their peak as a live act. If you are a fan of this era then this is not to be missed. This show will only be focusing on the songs played live on that ‘77 World Tour for the Wind & Wuthering Album.
While The Genesis Show does not pretend to look like them but the music is about as close to them as you can get without being them and there is a great light show to accompany the music. Grab your tickets today!

Storyline…
Gilby Smalls (Fran Kranz) is having a meltdown. He’s just been fired from his job, lost his apartment in a fire and his girlfriend gave him the boot. And it’s only Wednesday. Now, at the ripe old age of thirty-something, he is forced to move in with May, his booze-swindling man-obsessed mother. This is the last straw. Gilby’s life is bleak until best friend Kevin drags him to a family get-together, where he meets Rachel, Kevin’s very beautiful but very married sister.

Rachel (Odette Annable) is the very thing Gilby needs to get his life back on track. Desperate to impress her, Gilby starts to weave a web of lies; one bigger than the next. Now in a sticky mess, Gilby is forced to face the uncomfortable truth about himself before he can find a way out of his very own Lies. The Truth About Lies explores the potent role lying plays in relationships and life with some surprising results!

At an age when many artists are slowing down, David Crosby is speeding up!

When Crosby released Croz in 2014, it had been two decades since his last solo album. But in 2016, only two years after that robust, full-band effort, the 75-year old returned with Lighthouse, an intimate, stripped-down set that highlights Crosby’s instantly recognizable voice, incisive songwriting, and incomparable guitar work.

“Lights twinkle, flicker, blaze and sparkle throughout David Crosby’s finest solo album since his melancholy 1971 masterpiece If I Could Only Remember My name” – Rolling Stone

Now on Sept 29th 2017 comes the new masterpiece Sky Trails.
Produced by James Raymond, the album features a new collection of original songs including writing collaborations with Michael McDonald, Becca Stevens & James Raymond as well as a re-imagining of a Joni Mitchell classic.

Two-time Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and co-founder of the Byrds and Crosby, Stills & Nash, David Crosby, is heading out on tour in Nov/Dec 2017. Joining him will be five exceptionally talented musical friends, James Raymond on keys, Mai Agan on bass, Steve DiStanislao on drums, Jeff Pevar on guitar and Michelle Willis on keys and vocals.
Crosby is in the midst of an incredibly creative and powerful period and on this tour!

David Crosby and his friends put on an awesome show. It was not full of glitz and glam, no fancy laser light show or costume changes, but it was packed with spot on quality, superb harmonies and awesome musicianship. Crosby’s voice was as smooth as it has ever been and he was warm and charismatic.” -Shutter 16 (Review from The Westbury Theater May 23rd 2017)

More about the event…
• This engaging, award-winning film and panel discussion raises awareness about ME/CFS, a disease impacting millions worldwide.
• Post-film panel is comprised of a women’s health and ME/CFS advocate living with ME/CFS, a scientific researcher from Massachusetts General Hospital and a medical professional who is experienced with treating ME/CFS.
Post-film Moderator: Deborah Becker, Senior Correspondent/Host at WBUR, Boston’s National Public Radio station.

About the film…
Working on her Ph.D. at Harvard, twenty-eight year-old Jennifer Brea is months away from marrying the love of her life when she gets a mysterious fever that leaves her bedridden and looking for answers. Discounted by doctors yet determined to live, she turns her camera on herself and discovers a hidden world of millions confined to their homes and bedrooms by ME, (Myalgic Encephalomyelitis), commonly known as chronic fatigue syndrome.
At its core, Unrest is a powerful love story. Together, Jen and her new husband, Omar, must find a way to build a life and fight for a cure. Their struggle to forge their relationship while dealing with her mysterious illness is at once heartbreaking, inspiring and funny.

The Security Project brings Gabriel’s genre-less masterpieces into the 21st Century. Seattleites Trey Gunn and Michael Cozzi join legendary drummer Jerry Marotta and NY keyboardist David Jameson to harness the core of these songs. Added to the pedigree of these players is the voice of Happy Rhodes. Her 4-octave range is the latest edition to this mesmerizing group.

The Security Project Live is a beautifully reverential and creative reinterpretation of this Peter Gabriel Classic!
Kevin Killen, engineer of Gabriel’s “So” record

The Security Project expertly reimagines Peter Gabriel’s groundbreaking early output, creating an immersive experience both in performance and on its debut release Live 1. The group goes far beyond conventional tribute band territory, infusing the songs with new arrangements and elements while staying true to the spirit of the material. Gabriel enthusiasts across the board will be taken by the band’s high-octane approach full of drive, determination and energy.

MOVIE SYNOPSIS

Slow down and breathe. This contemplative journey follows in the steps of Zen master Thich Nhat Hanh and is a rare insight into life within a monastic community. The sun rises. Everything is calm and still. Life is beautifully serene as Benedict Cumberbatch’s composed, meditative voice reads an extract from Thich Nhat Hanh’s early journals. So begins Max Pugh and Marc J Francis’ (Black Gold, LFF2006) fascinating and immersive exploration of what it means to devote one’s life to mindfulness. With unprecedented access to the famous secluded monastery of Plum Village in the South West of France, Walk With Me captures the daily routine and rituals of monks and nuns on a quest to develop a deep sense of presence. It is an insightful rumination on the pursuit of happiness, living in the present and our attachment to material things – a welcome remedy to the stresses of city life and a world in turmoil.

Storied film producer and B-movie godfather Roger Corman is famous for coming up with the titles for some of his movies first, and only later building a story around them. There’s no evidence that that’s the case with Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill!, but it’s at least plausible. The whole movie is summed and encapsulated, hologram-like, in its title. And we’d bet all the candy corn in town that you already knew whether you wanted to see this movie before you even finished reading its name.

While out on tour over Halloween, an all-girl candy-raver band named “Kill Pussy Kill” is presented with an insidious series of deadly traps. Kidnapped and locked in a Saw-style torture house, they’re forced to turn on each other with brutal weaponry and grisly violence to have a chance at freedom.

The movie features model and soap opera star Richard Grieco, the voice of Megadeth lead singer Dave Mustaine (as the ersatz Jigsaw behind the heroines’ torment), one of the former stars of Sharktopus, and several other people with expensive-looking headshots on their IMDB pages. Also it’s called Halloween Pussy Trap Kill! Kill! — a fact which simply cannot be stressed enough.

Mike Bent began his career in magic at age 6, when he checked out his first magic book from the library. That book started him on the path to a lifetime love of learning, creativity and performance that literally changed his life.

Mike started performing when he was 15 years old. By the time he graduated from Emerson College, where he studied children’s writing with Jack Gantos (Rotten Ralph, Joey Pigza), he was performing his original magic and comedy routine at clubs and colleges throughout the country. This led to a performance at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, and numerous television appearances on HBO, Showtime, ABC, NBC, CBS, Comedy Central and A&E.

Mike has been teaching professional comedy writing at Emerson College for more than 18 years. It’s not unusual to watch a comedy show on television and see one of Mike’s former students listed in the credits.

Voted “Best of Boston,” he quickly became established as one of the top kids’ show performers in the United States. His books, products and lectures have become the standard for the industry.

As MAGIC Magazine wrote, “Mike Bent really understands children’s comedy.”

M.U.M Magazine (the official publication for the Society of American Magicians said, “There is no one in the universe that creates magic routines and comedy sight gags as novel and astonishing as Mike does. Throughout the hilarity, the magic he performs is strong: he doesn’t let the gags get in the way of the mystery.”

As a performer, teacher and dad, Mike knows how to use comedy and magic to entertain, educate and motivate children. That’s what AbraKidabra! is all about. Click on the image above to view Mike’s web page…

Queen Boudicca a Metal Opera is a radical re-imagining of Opera,  a production combining the drama of Theatre with the excitement of a Metal concert based on the real life story of Boudicca, leader of the Iceni and one of the greatest freedom fighters in Celtic history. Rome’s cruel abuse of the Queen and her daughters unleashed a lioness, a savage destroyer the likes of which the Empire had never seen!

A foreboding tune performed on the ancient Warrior’s Lyre, a towering row of monstrous ancient Carnyx War Trumpets, combined with 20th-Century composition techniques, sweeping polyphony, and torrential heavy metal channel the spirits of the 1st-Century Celts by capturing the spirit, rage, elegance, and brutality of Boudicca’s noble revolt.

The cast of Queen Boudicca a Metal Opera includes Broadway / TV Actor Ava Gaudet of Rent (Broadway), and numerous TV and Film credits, a veritable Super group of the New England Metal scene (Seven Spires, Averse, Vivisepulture), as well as some of the best performers that Berklee College of Music and Boston Conservatory have produced in the Metal and Classical styles.

Few hard rock bands are as widely respected yet criminally overlooked as King’s X. The band, which combines progressive rock and soul with vocal arrangements influenced by gospel, blues and British Invasion groups, still features original members Doug Pinnick (vocals/bass), Ty Tabor (guitar) and Jerry Gaskill (drums). They were ranked #83 on VH1’s 100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock and released over a dozen albums featuring the radio hits Over My Head, It’s Love, Black Flag, and Dogman.

King’s X released their first studio album, Out of the Silent Planet, in 1988. Despite being hailed by music critics, the album didn’t fare well commercially, peaking at #144 on the Billboard album charts. The band’s 1989 sophomore release, Gretchen Goes to Nebraska, fared slightly better from a commercial standpoint. Significantly, the song Over My Head received moderate airplay on MTV and radio. The increase in exposure would prove beneficial when the band released their third album, Faith, Hope, Love, in the fall of 1990.

Faith, Hope, Love was the group’s first album to crack the US Top 100, with the help of the successful single It’s Love. The band landed a gig opening for AC/DC in the U.S. and Europe for the first half of 1991. They also toured with Living Colour and were nearing the peak of their popularity.

King’s X signed with major label Atlantic Records for their next self-titled release. After parting ways with their longtime manager, the band enlisted veteran producer Brendan O’Brien, who had previously produced albums for Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam. The ensuing release, Dogman, performed respectfully on the charts. This success resulted in the band opening shows for Pearl Jam and a show-stopping performance on the opening night of the mammoth Woodstock ‘94 festival

King’s X completed their contract with Atlantic Records with “Ear Candy” in 1996, before moving to Metal Blade Records where they released four studio albums and one live release. The band’s latest studio albums, Ogre Tones (2005) and XV (2008), were released on the InsideOut label. “XV” was their first album since Ear Candy to chart on the Billboard Top 200, ushering in a new wave of popularity for the band.

KINGS OF SPADE are a high-energy, shameless dancing, foot-stomping brand of Blues Rock’N’Roll.  Fronting Kings of Spade is florescent-mohawked, Kasi Nunes, who’s fiery vocals recall a hybrid of soul queens Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin.  Always wanting to push the bar at live shows KOS is in constant collaboration with other performers including dancers, musicians, or niche visual artists. They won 1st Place in the 2014 & 2015 Honolulu Pulse Awards “Best Local Rock Band” category, but have always set their sights on National touring.

With music conceived in their hometown in Honolulu, Hawaii, KOS jumped at the opportunity to record in Nashville, TN, with 2016 Grammy-winning producer, Dave Cobb (Rival Sons, Shooter Jennings). With the help of a successfully over-funded Kickstarter project to raise funds to record with Cobb, KOS finished their second self-titled album which has since been nominated for a 2015 Hoku award for “Best Rock Album.” They finished their 7th US mainland tour with several West Coast dates in March 2016 including a landmark showcase at LA’s Whisky-A-Go-Go. After performing a series of summer dates in June 2017 opening for King’s X in Europe, they return to the Regent Theatre for another unforgettable night of music as the support act for King’s X.

Since his creation by Morgan Taylor in 2005, Gustafer Yellowgold has become an international phenomenon, acclaimed by The New York Times, which described Gustafer as “A cross between ‘Yellow Submarine’ and Dr. Seuss.” Entertainment Weekly praised “…The most infectious original songs. It’s like tapping into some pleasure center in the brain- both adult and kid…absurdly appealing.”

Gustafer Yellowgold’s Show is a multi-media performance of live music, colored-pencil animations and storytelling. With its unique crossover appeal, the show has been the wild-card opening act for Wilco and The Polyphonic Spree. Gustafer has appeared GUS-CAKENSTEIN-LIVE-72DPI-ABOUT2off-Broadway in his own productions of Gustafer Yellowgold’s Mellow Sensation and Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock. Gustafer the character is a friendly creature who came to Earth from the sun and is living out an explorer’s life in a slightly psychedelic version of the Minnesota woods.

The award-winning Gustafer Yellowgold DVD/CD sets include Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wide Wide World (2007), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Have You Never Been Yellow? (2007), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Mellow Fever (2009), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Infinity Sock (2011), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Year In The Day (2012), Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wisdom Tooth of Wisdom (2014) and the Grammy® Nominated Gustafer Yellowgold’s Dark Pie Concerns (2015).

A native of Dayton, Ohio, Morgan Taylor moved to New York City in 1999, honing his songwriting skills while concurrently becoming a successful sound engineer. A self-taught cartoonist raised on MAD Magazine and Marvel comics, Taylor began drawing what would become the Gustafer Yellowgold videos as a picture book project in winter 2004, during breaks of touring as the multi-instrumentalist for Autumn Defense, featuring WILCO’s John Stirratt and Pat Sansone. Taylor played the first live Gustafer Yellowgold concert with music and moving images in the summer of 2005 while on tour in Seoul, Korea. His DVD/CD MORGAN-GUS 2014 72DPIsets, Gustafer Yellowgold’s Have You Never Been Yellow? and Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wide Wild World are NAPPA Gold Award winners and were honored by the Kids First! Film and Video Festival. “Mint Green Bee” from Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wide Wild World was a Grand Prize Winner in the John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

The Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting Series is a holy-spirit filled gathering of country music stars sharing their faith, some amazing songs and hilarious moments while touching the hearts of everyone in the room– and everyone who watches. It was named Wednesday Night Prayer Meeting because that’s what the let-your-hair-down style of worship was called back in the day. You went to Sunday morning all shined up, but Wednesday Night was for relaxing and celebrating the Lord Jesus. These moments are all captured in an old country Church setting. Past artists in attendance include: Ricky Skaggs, The Oak Ridge Boys, John Berry, Bill Anderson, Larry Black, Larry Gatlin and the Gatlin Brothers, Barbara Fairchild, Gene Watson, The Isaacs, Jimmy Fortune, Teea Goans, The Martin Family Circus, Gordon Mote, Linda Davis, Rhonda Vincent and MANY MORE. They sing songs like Victory In Jesus, Wings of a Dove, He Touched Me, I’m Gonna Love You Through It, and others you’re sure to recognize and sing along.

Hosted By Boston Comedy Legend Tony V

Tony is a Boston comedy legend who has been seen on television on Conan, Seinfeld and Louie, as well as the films The Heat and Bobcat Goldthwait’s World’s Greatest Dad with Robin Williams

Also appearing is Boston-bred Robert Kelly who’s comedy is deeply rooted his own life and relationships which makes it honest, abrasively funny, yet refreshingly vulnerable.  In 2003, he was voted the Breakthrough Performer of the Year on CringeHumor.net and he has been winning over audiences for years while touring clubs, colleges and theaters, including repeat performances at Montreal’s Just For Laughs Festival. His one hour special Robert Kelly: Live at the Village Underground debuted on Comedy Central and is now available on Netflix. Besides being a fixture on Comedy Central, Robert plays Bam Bam in Denis Leary’s FX show Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll, whose second season will air this summer.

Jim McCue, “Boston’s King of Crowd Work“, fresh off Gotham Live, will host. Jim has appeared on Comedy Central and Last Comic Standing, and is the author of the book Embedded Comedian, about entertaining our troops overseas.

Jack Lynch, a 16-year veteran of the Boston comedy scene, will also be on hand. Lynch has toured the United States and Canada entertaining crowds with his earthy style, great impressions, and clean but sarcastic view of the world. He draws his humor from having lived in the suburbs of Boston, while at the same time having the unique perspective growing up with deaf parents. As a result of his family situation, Lynch got away with more than the average Boston kid and he amuses his audiences with those stories in his act. Jack is also founder ComicsForRecovery.com.

Joey Carroll, whose comedy prowess and impeccable timing made him a standout performer at The Boston Comedy Festival, landed a spot with Bobcat Goldthwait on Comedy Central’s Pulp Comics. Joey often performs with Jim, entertaining the troops at military bases around the world, and has been described as a cross between George Carlin and Dennis Miller.

Also in attendance will be Kitty Bruce, daughter of Comedy Icon Lenny Bruce, and Founder of the Lenny Bruce Memorial Foundation, as well as Woody Giessmann, founder of Right Turn and a member of the legendary band, The Del Fuegos.

Shifting from one pocket to another, from one man’s drama to another, a lowly dollar bill, “one buck” takes us on an odyssey through the heart of a forgotten town in Louisiana. Along the journey of “one buck”, we encounter Harry who is immersed in a downward spiral brought about by the sudden and violent death of his wife. In its transitions from each hopeless hand to another and each desperate character to the next, “one buck” bears witness to different facets of irresistible vice enticed by money. If money could talk, this is its disturbing tale of the dark side and of moral disintegration in society. Harry’s self destruction is the highlight of the stories and his demise serves to be his redemption. RUNTIME: 90-MIN

Urbanized looks at the issues and strategies behind urban design and features some of the world’s foremost architects, planners, policymakers, builders, and thinkers. Over half the world’s population now lives in an urban area, and 75% will call a city home by 2050. But while some cities are experiencing explosive growth, others are shrinking. The challenges of balancing housing, mobility, public space, civic engagement, economic development, and environmental policy are fast becoming universal concerns. Yet much of the dialogue on these issues is disconnected from the public domain.

Who is allowed to shape our cities, and how do they do it? Unlike many other fields of design, cities aren’t created by any one specialist or expert. There are many contributors to urban change, including ordinary citizens who can have a great impact improving the cities in which they live. By exploring a diverse range of urban design projects around the world, Urbanized frames a global discussion on the future of cities.

He never smiled on camera, earning him the nickname of “the Great Stone Face” but Buster Keaton‘s comedies rocked Hollywood’s silent era with laughter throughout the 1920s. See for yourself with a special Regent Theatre screening of Three Ages (1923) and Sherlock Jr. (1924), two of Keaton’s landmark feature films this evening.

In Three Ages (1923), Keaton spoofs historical dramas by seeking true love in three differing epochs. Great physical comedy plus Buster’s deadpan attitude will have you laughing out loud.
In Sherlock Jr. (1924), Keaton plays a small-town movie projectionist who dreams of being a detective.

The films will be shown with live musical accompaniment by Jeff Rapsis, a New Hampshire-based performer regarded as one of the nation’s leading silent film musicians. “If you’ve never seen a silent comedy in a theater with an audience and live music, you’re missing one of the cinema’s great experiences,” said Rapsis, who accompanies more than 100 silent film programs each year.

1hr 51min Runtime
Keaton’s Three Ages, a send-up of the then-famous drama ‘Intolerance’ (1916), weaves together similar love stories told in three different epochs: the Stone Age, the Roman Age, and “Modern” (1920s) times. The three-stories-in-one approach was Keaton’s first attempt at a feature-length comedy. If ‘Three Ages’ ran into box office trouble, Keaton planned to split it up into three shorter films to be released separately. But the picture was a hit, due to inspired comic touches that still shine through today. ‘Three Ages’ launched Keaton’s spectacular run of classic comic features that lasted until the industry’s transition to sound pictures in 1929. Although ‘Three Ages’ spans three historical eras, Keaton performs jaw-dropping physical comedy in each of them. The “caveman” sequences feature Buster in a bearskin outfit; the Roman scenes include a wild chariot race held during a snowstorm; and the modern era scenes include one of the great silent film chases.

ABOUT THE BANDS…

Tsunami of Sound was formed in the spring of 2008. ToS plays originals, classic TV themes and kooky covers all in their own style. They’re live show is second to none and occasionally they perform with their own Go Go Dancers called The Cameo Girls which are Nicole Huggins and Cha Cha Epps.
ToS is, David Esposito on guitar, Rick Sanger on drums and Jamie Huggins on bass.

The Beachcombovers
, are an incredible four piece Surf band comprised of… Tommy White guitar & vocals, John “JP” Prendergast guitar & vocals, Ramon Fabregas drums and J. Bruce Scott bass. Their infectious brand of Surf music harkens back to a simpler time and never fails to capture audiences with a sense of fun, something that is sorely lacking in today’s hurry up over-amped world…

SYNOPSIS: Eighty-six-year-old Marjorie spends her final, ailing days with a computerized version of her deceased husband. With the intent to recount their life together, Marjorie’s “Prime” relies on the information from her and her kin to develop a more complex understanding of his history. As their interactions deepen, the family begins to develop ever diverging recounts of their lives, drawn into the chance to reconstruct the often painful past. Built around exceptional performances from a veteran cast, Marjorie Prime shines a light on an often-obscured corner in the world of artificial intelligence and its interactions with mortality. Bringing us robustly into the future, Michael Almaryeda’s poetic film forces us to face the question, If we had the opportunity, how would we choose to rebuild the past, and what would we decide to forget?

“Not since Spike Jonze’s ‘Her’ has humanity’s uneasy embrace of seductive technology been given such soulful contemplation.”

It is a film spoken BY kids TO kids about the risks of the recreational mixing of prescription drugs with alcohol. Kids and young adults live in a world with too many options. The common trend of experimenting with prescription drugs and alcohol is unfortunately very common in high schools and college campuses across the country and is resulting in tragic accidents.

Originally created under the specter of the AIDS crisis, this timely musical about middle‑class family dynamics manages to remain buoyant and satirically perceptive even as it moves towards its heartbreaking conclusion. Lincoln Center Theater’s production stars Christian Borle, Stephanie J. Block, Andrew Rannells, and Brandon Uranowitz, all of whom received Tony nominations for their respective performances. What starts out as a fun story about a citizen who embeds himself with the media covering the 2016 Presidential Campaigns, turns into an eye-opening journey; where basic principles like truth, free speech, a free press and the rule of law are under siege. Ultimately, Democracy Through the Looking Glass examines the junction between media, politics and technology in the Post-Truth Era.

This 40,000 foot story is told from the trenches of press conferences, voter experiences and the campaign trail, with insights from veteran CBS journalist Bob Schieffer, Boston Globe Editor Brian McGrory, Harvard University’s Nicco Mele, Larry Lessig and others.

On April 4, 2017, The Regent will join over 180 art house movie theatres across the country in 124 cities and in 41 states (plus four locations in Canada) to participate collectively in a NATIONAL EVENT DAY screening of the ‘80s movie 1984 starring John Hurt, who sadly died last month. This date was chosen because it’s the day George Orwell’s protagonist Winston Smith begins rebelling against his oppressive government by keeping a forbidden diary. These theaters owners also strongly believe in supporting the National Endowment for the Arts and see any attempt to scuttle that program as an attack on free speech and creative expression through entertainment. This event provides a chance for communities around the country to show their unity and have their voices heard.

As part of National Screening Day‘s request “for participating theaters that charge admission to donate a portion of the proceeds to local charities and organizations,” the Regent has chosen Arlington Center for the Arts as our local partner for this purpose. Facing the loss of their 28-year home in the Gibbs Building, the Arts Center is in the midst of a capital campaign to create the “New ACA” in the heart of Arlington Center, in the historic Central School behind Town Hall.

Rated R for nudity, sexuality and some violence
“Orwell’s novel begins with the sentence, ‘It was a bright cold day in April, and the clocks were striking thirteen,’” reads a joint statement on behalf of all participating theaters. “Less than two months into the new presidential administration, theater owners collectively believe the clock is already striking thirteen. Orwell’s portrait of a government that manufactures their own facts, demands total obedience, and demonizes foreign enemies, has never been timelier.”

We all add, “The endeavor encourages theaters to take a stand for the values of freedom of speech, love and respect for our fellow human beings, and the simple truth that there are no such things as ‘alternative facts’...zero tolerance for lies amongst our leaders. By doing what we do best – showing a movie – the goal is that cinemas can initiate a much-needed community conversation at a time when the existence of facts, and basic human rights are under attack. Through nationwide participation and strength in numbers, these screenings are intended to galvanize people at the crossroads of cinema and community, and bring us together to foster communication and resistance against current efforts to undermine the most basic tenets of our society.”

The documentary, WOMEN OF 1915 combines facts and emotion to honor these brave women of the Armenian Genocide, many of whom lost their lives, survived to create new lives, or were forced into lives that were not their own. Many women, Armenian, European, and American, also traveled great distances to rescue lives, even at the risk of their own. Among the women highlighted in the film are survivors, volunteers, and resisters, including survivor Aurora Mardiganian, American volunteer Mary Louise Graffam, diplomat Diana Apkar, and Danish missionary Maria Jacobsen.

It has been said that, “...you could laugh until you cry” while watching Alexander Feldman perform as Alex the Jester but it suffices to say that audiences of all ages will be entertained beyond belief when The Jester of Notre Dame visits the Regent Theatre stage as part of Family Fun Saturday mornings.

Recomended for Adults and Kids… 5 and up

Looking like a joker from your favorite deck of playing cards, Feldman’s zany mischief, boyish antics and obvious comedy is a genuine adventure in fun for your entire family.  At one moment, he’ll be playing elementary recorders in incredible ways and the next moment juggling jingle bells while performing mind-bending stunts and contorting his seemingly-rubber body with pretzel-like precision. Alex (who lives in Somerville, MA) will stun you with his hilarious sight gags too with facial expressions that can stop a herd of camels and will make you laugh until you drop!

Feldman performs in the style of a medieval court jester, a tradition which combines music, juggling, prop comedy and stage magic. While performing at the Just for Laughs - International Comedy Festival in Montreal, Canada, Feldman began speaking a contemporary version of the medieval gibberish language Grammelot as part of his act. He uses Grammelot to cut through language barriers regularly. In November of 2009, he was selected by the U.S. State Department to entertain in Russia as a cultural ambassador. He has appeared on Showtime, Public Broadcasting Service and America’s Got Talent, and he has performed in theaters from Alaska to Australia and back.

His antics on-stage will last about an hour so if you have ants in your pants and need to shake them out just join the crowd Saturday morning at 10:30am to dance and laugh along with dozens of young families. A limited number of booster seats are available for little ones so come early, this show is sure to be a near sell-out.

Book by Thomas Meehan
Music by Charles Strouse
Lyrics by Martin Charnin
And produced through special arrangement with Music Theatre International

ANNIE is based on Harold Gray’s popular comic strip Little Orphan Annie. The comic strip premiered in the 1920s in the New York Daily News, and became one of the most widely read strips in the 30s and 40s. Lyricist-director Martin Charnin bought a coffee table book called “The Life and Hard Times of Little Orphan Annie” as a Christmas gift for a friend in 1970. The clerk at the bookstore was too busy to wrap the book, so Charnin took the book home to wrap it. Instead, he read it and fell in love with the strip, and set out to secure the rights, Christmas week of 1970. The friend never got the book.

The Arlington Catholic Drama Club presents . . . .

Charnin championed the idea to colleagues Charles Strouse, a two-time Tony-winning composer, and Thomas Meehan, a short story writer for The New Yorker. It took a great deal of campaigning to get them interested, but the team was finally formed in 1971, when they began to write the musical.
Annie is full of toe-tapping hits such as It’s the Hard Knock Life, Easy Street, You’re Never Fully Dressed Without A Smile, NYC, Maybe and everyone’s favorite song – Tomorrow. These wonderful songs have become staples of musical theatre repertoires worldwide and now, 35 years later, it remains one of the most loved and universally appealing musicals of all time.
A show for the entire family to sing along to!!

The Complete “Band On The Run” Starring Denny Laine of Wings

Denny Laine celebrates the 40th anniversary of the “Wings Over America” tour with a live on stage performance of their greatest album, “Band on the Run”—complete and unabridged! Within a year of its release, “Band On the Run” had sold over six-million copies worldwide, having spawned three U.S. Top Ten hits-”Helen Wheels”, “Jet”, and the title track. The singles alone occupied the U.S. chart for forty-five (45) weeks, while the album stayed on the charts for over two (2) years. “Band On The Run” was in the Top-30 of the Billboard 200 as recently as 2010, when a remastered version of the album was released.

This special evening celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Wings Over America tour. The sold out U.S. leg of the “Wings Over the World” tour helped carry the’ “Silly Love Songs” single and “Wings at the Speed of Sound” album to number one on their respective charts. From the tour came the film “Rock Show” and the number one triple album set “Wings over America”.

By far the most successful album involving any of the Beatles following their breakup, “Band on the Run” was created by Paul McCartney, Denny Laine and Linda McCartney. The other members of Wings quit the group just prior to the departure to Lagos, Nigeria to begin sessions for the album, but out of adversity came advantage.  With Paul McCartney on vocals, piano, drums, guitar, bass, and keys, and Denny Laine contributing vocals, keys, acoustic, electric and bass guitars, and Linda McCartney on keys and vocals, Band On the Run transcended the era to become an album whose deep cuts such as “Let Me Roll It”,  “Picasso’s Last Words”, and “Mrs. Vanderbilt”  and “Bluebird” are better remembered-and played more often on classic rock radio-than most hits of the era.

Expect other Wings hits such as “Live and Let Die”,  and “Time to Hide” as well as Denny’s legendary lead vocal on the Moody Blues classic “Go Now” to round out this special anniversary show.

The 2017 Family Festival offers nearly four full days of some of the world’s best films for children and adults. Films are screened in English or their native language with subtitles, and many are being screened in the US or the East Coast for the first time. It might even be your only time to see them in New England.

This year’s festival, Where Books Come Alive, features films based mostly on children’s books: from American favorites, including Robert McCloskey’s Make Way for Ducklings, which is celebrating its 75th anniversary, and Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are, to Swiss classics such as Johanna Spyri’s Heidi and Selina Chönz’s and Alois Carigiet’s Little Mountain Boy (Schellen Ursli). There are films about new siblings, friendship in South Korea, Vietnamese immigrants in Germany, Little League Baseball in Uganda, three 12 year-old boys from Brooklyn with a $1.8 million record deal, and so much more from which to choose!

Thanks to a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council, Aardman Animation’s Creative Director Merlin Crossingham (Wallace and Gromit, Chicken Run, Shaun the Sheep) is coming “across the pond” from the UK to talk and sign autographs after a screening of the Oscar-winning Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit on opening night at the Regent Theater and to lead two workshops on model making on Saturday, January 14, hosted by the Belmont Media Center.

About the band…

For the past quarter-century, Colorado’s Leftover Salmon has established itself as one of the great purveyors of Americana music, digging deep into the well that supplies its influences; rock ‘n’ roll, folk, bluegrass, Cajun, soul, zydeco, jazz and blues.
During their twenty-five plus years as a band they have headlined shows and festivals from coast to coast, released nine albums, and maintained a vibrant, relevant and influential voice in the music world. The evolution of Leftover Salmon’s music is influenced by Leftover Salmon co-founders Drew Emmitt (mandolin/vocals) and Vince Herman‘s (guitar/singer) keen musical instincts, and follows a musical path that adheres to the deep tradition the duo started when they first formed the group along with deceased banjo player Mark Vann.

The addition of new band members over the years has nurtured an unmistakable evolution and freshness in Leftover Salmon’s sound, and has added an edge to the long-lasting power of the band’s music. Fueled by the rhythm section of long time bassist Greg Garrison, drummer Alwyn Robinson, and Salmon’s newest member, keyboardist Erik Deustch, the band is currently enjoying a creative renaissance. The front line trio of Emmitt, Herman and prodigious banjo player Andy Thorn are continually challenged and pushed in new directions as the band collectively searches for new spaces and sounds within their extensive catalog of songs.

The Regent Theatre is overjoyed in welcoming Leftover Salmon to it’s austere yet historic venue for this one-time-only performance!

Bob Dylan once called this man a “Folk Italian Hero” and it wouldn’t be an understatement to say, that’s about the highest praise Francesco De Gregori could receive. Many years into his career now, Francesco is still managing to live up to the praise, taking his timeless folk songs to bigger crowds than ever, all over the world.

Even for non-Italian speaking audiences there is still something deeply moving about Francesco’s music. It has a worldly European nostalgia about it which he displays as he takes crowds through up-tempo rockers and wistful ballads often leading at front-of-stage with his acoustic guitar and harmonica. The most surprising thing is how cool the man manages to look. Sporting his trademark trilby hat and a dapper suit, Francesco carries himself with a class and sophistication that helps to make his music all the more powerful.

Its no surprise that the man known as “Il Principe dei cantautori” (‘The Prince of the singer-songwriters’) is still going today because music as timeless as Francesco De Gregori’s will always find a stage to be played on.

Starring Orlando Bloom, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jake Johnson

Young married couple Tim and Lee have planted the seeds of a family in their East L.A. duplex. Three years after the birth of their son, they’re still adjusting to the joy and pain of life with kid, navigating potty talk at the dinner table, disagreeing over preschools, and putting off doing their taxes. For a change of pace, they decide to house-sit for one of Lee’s Westside yoga clients. Once there, Tim discovers something suspicious in the yard that gets the wheels in his head turning, and Lee, worried that he will become obsessed with digging deeper, decides to drop their toddler off with her mother for a much-needed night out on the town. Sans-wife, Tim invites his buddies over, and a “boys-will-be-boys” scenario ensues, full of drinking, awkward joint-passing, and perhaps getting a bit too close to a girl who isn’t the mother of his child.

Under Swanberg’s direction, Rosemarie DeWitt and Jake Johnson deliver dead-on portrayals of parents on the verge of a nervous breakdown that will ring true to anyone who has ever juggled parenthood with keeping a marriage exciting. —A.M.

A gorgeous look inside honeybee colonies

Monday, June 10 at 7:30pm

Bookmark and Share

Taking a journey through the honeybee colonies in California, Switzerland, China, and Australia, “More Than Honey” explores bee decimation. The same scenario is repeated around the world: 50%-90% of bees are disappearing from colony to colony. The bee epidemic has started a phenomenon known in the scientist community as, “Colony Collapse Disorder.” The dying species has had a negative global effect, and without the bee population, our humanity will slowly be affected.

Director and writer, Markus Imhoof travels from the different regions to interview beekeepers’ work to preserve their colonies. With their knowledge and practice in the bee world, the beekeepers show the daily paradox working in both natures’ rhythm and against it.

“This. Film. Is. Fascinating.” – Cleveland International Film Fest*

“Surprisingly up-close images of bees at rest and in flight give buzz to an inescapably downbeat topic”

Featuring 2011 Grammy nominated vocalist Judy Pancoast

Pancoast was just eleven years old when her older sister told her about a song she’d heard on the radio, and said that the girl singing it sounded “just like you.”  That was the summer of 1970, and when Judy finally heard “(They Long to Be) Close to You” it was the beginning of a childhood adulation that would last well into her adult years.  She spent her adolescent and teen years listening nearly non-stop to the music of the brother and sister duo who called themselves “Carpenters,” and she became one of the charter members of their fan club at age 12.

Judy’s natural rich alto voice blended well with Karen’s, and she spent countless hours in front of a mirror with a hair brush “microphone” mimicking her idol’s voice.  Later, while a music major at the University of Maine, she was advised to “stop trying to sound like Karen Carpenter,” but although she managed finally to all but erase the traces of Karen’s styling, the influence had already had its impact.  Randy Schmidt, author of “Little Girl Blue: the Life of Karen Carpenter” says this about Judy: “…her velvety voice, phrasing and conversational delivery of a song are all products of years spent listening to the timeless recordings of the Carpenters. Her passion and joy for the material make Judy the perfect vocalist to pay tribute.”

“... Pancoast kept her audience thoroughly entertained for over two hours, reaching people on an emotional level. Pancoast didn’t settle for imitation. She channeled the essence of what The Carpenters always tried to do: show respect and warmth for the people they were singing to. And Pancoast has a voice to handle the technical challenges and emotive qualities of that music…. ”—Bill Copeland Music News
