Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song?
Do you muse over the endless tailoring opportunities for chintz curtains?
Have you always wondered what it would be like to wear a wimple?

Sing-a-long-a Sound of Music is your chance to test your vocal range with several hundred other assorted nuns, Von Trapp family members and Julie Andrews look-a-likes.

The evening begins with a live show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the fancy dress competition and award the prizes. Costumes are not compulsory but they are highly recommended and you will be amazed at the inventiveness on display. The host will then show you how to use your free goody bag throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions (such as hissing the countess, barking at Rolf and, of course, cheering for Julie).

Then, you sit back and watch the original 1965 movie in glorious Technicolor ™ with the lyrics for all the songs on the screen, so you won’t miss a chance to sing your hearts out. The audience takes over as the star of the show from this point and almost anything can happen – the first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES!

Running Time: Approximately 3 hours, 20 minutes

While you’ll see no toy soldiers battling mice in this holiday show, the Dance Inn’s annual celebration has nevertheless become something of a tradition in the area. And for good reason: Dance Inn dancers—including the Legacy Dance Company, Dance Technique Dancers, About Time Tappers as well as the Inn’s accomplished faculty—have been sharing dance and merriment with holiday audiences for over 20 years now.

Dancing toys? Yep. But you’ll also see hip-hopping elves and tapping grannies in numbers like Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph and Friends, Sleigh Ride, White Christmas, and many more classic holiday favorites.

And like Dance Inn shows of holidays’ past, a portion of the Friday evening proceeds will be donated to a local charity.

JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR

CHECK OUT THIS VIDEO PROMO OF URO PERFORMING JCS!

As the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra’s first studio recording, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar—A 21st Century Tribute to the Brown Album’ was the project that put so many musicians and singers together prompting Sal and Alan to realize they had an opportunity to make some crazy, new, giant, rock band. Prior to this recording, the URO didn’t exist.

The album itself was born out of the URO co-founder’s mutual admiration of this classic, definitive rock opera by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice - first recorded in 1970 with Ian Gillan of Deep Purple singing ‘Jesus’ (the fabled ‘Brown Album.’)

Now, for the first time on the Regent stage, the URO will perform the 26 song epic ‘live’ on stage - a mammoth undertaking - one sure to elicit electrifying moments.

“The Carl Palmer Band was a sonic smorgasbord for these ProgRock fans. Arguably the greatest drummer since Buddy Rich, Palmer is as good now as he ever was.” —Daniel Knighton, San Diego Concerts Examiner

“Palmer Unleashes The Thunder On His Current Tour”—Pollstar

“Palmer and his players infuse these tunes with flowing musical diversity, ranging from jazzy improvisation, soaring stylized guitar leads, funk bass lines, classical melodies, and hard rock shredding, completed with Palmer rounding out the final song with a dynamic drum solo. - this is a listening experience.”—Tom Wright, Hollywood Today

” This is however a uber-clever jam fest that takes in jazz fusion, classical and some funk. This is fascinating stuff to listen to…”—Marty Dodge, Seattle Post

“... Many people were open-mouthed as he bent over the drums & cymbals & was able to make the drumsticks “REVOLVE” on the drum set without his even holding them at one point… There was thunderous applause for that, and a similar response to virtually everything the group played…”
—VOS- Edge.com Los Angeles, YAHOO!.com

“...a drummer near the height of his powers, clearly in tune with the past and the present.”—Ken Micallef, Modern Drummer

“The world’s greatest living drummer, Carl Palmer, wowed a packed house at B.B. Kings on October 19th with his trio, treating the assembled throng to a show that included interpretations of Emerson, Lake and Palmer material, wonderful improvisatory sections and a private drum clinic.” —Steve Janowsky, ReviewFix.com

“Several standing ovations drew sincere appreciation from Carl Palmer and his band. Carl Palmer’s drumming continues to be listed in the top 10 when many make their top drummers of all time list.” —George Burrows, Cedar Rapids Examiner

“Carl Palmer, the “P” of ELP, still tours and performs with the energy of an artist half his age.  There’s an infectious exuberance about Palmer that is hard to ignore.” —Ken Kolasinski, Montgomery News Media

“Palmer has lost none of his steam or power, and seems invigorated by the young guys (in his band). His drums drive the trio’s powerful playing with the same energy he brought to ELP in the 1970s.” —Howard Whitman, Classic Rock Revisted

“His guitarist, Paul Bielatowicz, absolutely blisters the material, and Palmer matches him note for note. What used to sound majestic (or, to some, bombastic; it was called derisively called “art rock” back in the day) now packs a monster wallop.”—Marc Allan, NUVO

Dubbed by one admirer “the undisputed King of Boston comedy,” Sweeney embodies, almost literally, the city he calls home. A master of dialects and character voices, Sweeney can riff on everyone from Dorchester church ladies to Beacon Hill pols to certain radio personalities who seem a little too old to be peddling rock and roll to younger generations. In fact, while Sweeney has played to national audiences many times throughout his thirty-year career – not only by touring as a stand-up but also through roles in sitcoms and movies – he is so thoroughly Bostonian that he merits his own stop on the Freedom Trail.

“We all know the music of Peter, Paul and Mary—folk classics that remain the soundtrack for generations. But our patrons were thrilled to experience the relevancy of that music, and how it resonates through today’s headlines, when Peter Yarrow brought his solo show to the Tower Theatre. It was so much more than a nostalgia show. Peter connected with the sold-out audience in ways that went well beyond a normal concert: he encouraged sing-alongs and audience participation; he signed autographs at intermission; he personally greeted each and every one of our VIPs and members; he even auctioned two personalized guitars to raise money for our educational outreach programs. Peter turned our theatre into his living room. He created an inclusive atmosphere, encouraging each of us to change our part of the world. It was a memorable evening rooted in the historic milestones of his past, yet focused on the current issues that continue to call him to activism. We all know how all the songs of Peter, Paul and Mary sound; what a rare treat to hear what Peter thinks of them. “

–Ray Solley, Executive Director, Tower Theatre Foundation, Bend, Oregon

Peter Yarrow’s talents as a creative artist—both with the legendary trio Peter, Paul & Mary and as a solo performer—are frequently directed at using music to convey a message of humanity and caring. His gift for songwriting has produced some of the most moving songs from Peter, Paul & Mary, including “Puff, the Magic Dragon,” “Day is Done”, “Light One Candle” and “The Great Mandala.” As a member of the renowned musical trio, Yarrow has earned multiple gold and platinum albums, as well as numerous GRAMMYs.

Over the years, many issues have moved Peter to commit his time and talent: equal rights, peace, the environment, gender equality, homelessness, hospice care, and education. All have utilized his skills as both a performer and an organizer. Peter Yarrow’s life and work – culminating in the founding and leadership of Operation Respect with its “Don’t Laugh At Me” initiative – is based on his passionate belief that music, with its power to build community and catalyze change, can be a particularly powerful organizing tool.

“Yes, it will be nostalgic for many. But on another level, it will bring them a sense of what is still possible. Yes, they will sing ‘Leaving on a Jet Plane,’ and I will give them a sense of the current history of what this music is doing, and why it’s important. So it will be a history lesson, it will be a singalong that inspires, but it will also assert the importance of the continuation of this kind of music in people’s lives today. And where we’re going from here in those terms. It’s not necessarily a big lecture — it’s inherent in the music. They’ll get it. I know it, ’cause that’s what I do.” - Peter Yarrow

MOVIE TRAILER

Aptly serene in tone, this pleasing documentary by Guido Santi and Tina Mascara (of the excellent “Chris and Don: A Love Story”) has a built-in mix of retro celebrity and spiritual appeal that should serve it well in attracting niche buyers in all formats.

The grandson of fabled tastemaker and Vogue editor Diana Vreeland, raised by his equally glamorous parents in globe-trotting high style — at least until they divorced, at which point he and a brother were left more or less to their own devices in Paris — Vreeland became fascinated by photography in his teens. Fortunately, his grandmother was able to secure him an immediate apprenticeship under legendary snapper Irving Penn; he also worked with Richard Avedon before striking out on his own.

Described as being “a very committed dandy” and “a complete gentleman in terms of comportment,” he dated high-profile women and otherwise led an externally glamorous life. But it all left him dissatisfied. He began meditating, then in the late ’70s took the then-shocking step of shaving his head from “some desire to cleanse … to be out there naked, in a sense.”

Of course, that haircut would prove quite convenient when he found his calling, as did the theft of his cameras during an apartment break-in, since a resulting insurance settlement bankrolled several years of studying Buddhism. When Vreeland decided to become a monk, the Dalai Lama himself sent him to a Tibetan refugee settlement just across the Indian border. He stayed there for years as the monastery’s population swelled. He then moved back to the U.S., ghostwriting books for His Holiness, and translating lectures for his other spiritual master, Khylonga Rinpoche.

More recently, he oversaw the building of a badly needed larger monastic complex to replace his old one. When the 2008 economic crash made many promised donations go up in smoke, he re-entered the world of photography, traveling around the globe raising nearly half a million dollars selling his own new images. Most recently, he was installed as the now-completed Rato Monastery’s abbot — the first Westerner in nearly three millennia of Tibetan Buddhist history to achieve such a position.

Clearly regarded with great affection by his mentors (as well as supporters like Richard Gere), Vreeland makes very pleasant company, a man who can namedrop “Jackie” (as in Kennedy Onassis) and “His Holiness” without the least hint of ego. The directors adopt a similarly unpretentious, bemused tone in following him around. Subject’s past adventures are illustrated in animation segments done in a deliberately simple, ’70s TV-cartoon style — an offbeat choice that somehow seems just right.

Attractive lensing and scoring grace a thoughtful tech/design package.

Fun for All Ages
Billy Jonas is one of those rare performers who can engage and delight both young and adult audiences.  Billy’s clear tenor voice is well-suited to a plethora of venues, from intimate settings and workshop sessions to large halls and outdoor festivals. For more than two decades, his creative and interactive performances have enchanted and inspired folks from all walks of life — touching hearts, souls, and minds world-wide .  As a founding member of the acclaimed duo “The Billys,” Billy Jonas has made innovative use of “found objects.” He helps audiences discover the music within common items … and within themselves. Billy Jonas’ recordings and live concerts across the US and Canada have generated an enthusiastic following. His CD “What Kind of Cat are You?!” received multiple awards including a First Place/Gold from AFIM (American Federation of Independent Musicians), and a Parent’s Choice Gold.  Jonas’ videos have garnered critical acclaim, including Parents Choice Awards and a New York Times “Best” listing.

The Concert Experience
Billy Jonas’ music is percussion-based, making use of found objects (buckets, broom handles, bottles, key chains and more) as well as traditional instruments. But on any given day, the specific nature of this unforgettable neo-tribal hootenanny is largely determined and shaped by the audience. He tailors both his song selection and its presentation to suit the needs and vibe of each audience. So every Billy Jonas concert is a unique experience. He makes spirited, straightforward music that is accessible to anyone and everyone, regardless of age or cultural background. The big-tent festival quality of Billy’s music facilitates connection and community while fostering inspiration and… most importantly… FUN. Billy Jonas has shared stages with many renowned artists, including Patti Larkin, Ani DiFranco, David Wilcox, Richard Thompson, and Pete Seeger. His upbeat, engaging presence (both onstage and off) encourages active audience participation. His concerts are a magical mix of stagecraft and wholesome, open-ended, anything-can- happen spontaneity. Official Website

GRAMMY award winner Alison Krauss says, “Billy Jonas’ talent and wit make him and his music irresistible. Whenever I see him perform, my face hurts from smiling.” And Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul & Mary) testifies, “Billy Jonas is one of the most original, moving and simultaneously hilarious performers I’ve ever seen.”

Soulful harmonies, sophisticated songwriting, deep grooves and superlative musicianship are just a few hallmarks of Steely Dan’s vast catalog.
Playing the hits as well as deeper cuts from Steely Dan’s varied musical catalog, Boston’s own No Static makes it clear why many critics call this music the most perfect fusion of jazz, rock, and R&B musical styles ever achieved. Satisfy your craving for melody, harmony, poetry and groove with an evening of No Static.

Inspired by the genius of Donald Fagen and Walter Becker, by the hundreds of artists, session and sidemen who’ve helped create their legacy, No Static has been delivering impeccable live performances of this timeless music for almost 10 years.

“Musical dedication is what made Steely Dan such a great band. And No Static follows in that tradition. They craft the songs beautifully, but also warmly bring their own personalities to the sound. Using multiple singers gives a different touch—and yet they’re all on the same page when it comes to paying deep and impressive homage to one of rock’s greatest, most intelligent groups. See No Static if you can—and prepare to enjoy yourself.’’—Steve Morse, longtime Boston Globe correspondent

INTRODUCTION
WATCH INTRODUCTION LIVE!      Only the Beginning
“Introduction” is the opening song on Chicago’s first album; the beginning of a musical legacy that spans five decades.

While critics have struggled to define them, what cannot be argued is their unparalleled success. Chicago is the first American band to chart in the top forty in each of five decades. In Billboard Magazine’s list of Top 100 artists of all time, Chicago came in at #13, the highest charting American band. Record sales top the 120 million mark, and include 21 Top 10 singles, 5 consecutive Number One albums, 11 Number One singles and 5 Gold singles.

Introduction -The Chicago Experience consists of New England’s finest and most seasoned musicians. Our project was created from a deep respect for Chicago and their music. What we hope this experience will bring to our audience is not only Chicago’s tremendous catalogue, but a retrospective of the times and events that shaped their lives and their writing.

The seed for this album was planted during a one-off show back in 2012. Bazan was invited to play a show in Tacoma WA with the Passenger String Quartet. PSQ leader Andrew Joslyn put together string arrangements for 4 songs and it was an enjoyable evening for all. They immediately began talking about doing it again and eventually started talking about making proper studio recordings of these songs. But it took nearly two years for everyone’s schedules to line up again. In February 2014, they were able to spend a week at Avast! studio in Seattle tracking a collection of 10 songs pulled from Pedro The Lion, Headphones and Bazan solo albums. Long time friend and Bazan collaborator Chris Colbert recorded, mixed and mastered the album. Chris’s no nonsense approach and years of friendship helped focus the effort and they were able to record the entire album in just a few days.
With the release of the album they will be touring across the USA in October and November playing in clubs, small theaters and cathedrals.

David Bazan was, for many years, the songwriter and driving force behind the acclaimed band Pedro the Lion, building a dedicated following and selling a couple hundred-thousand albums. After a decade helming the project, he found himself embroiled in a major personal philosophical and spiritual cataclysm, wrapped in a growing drinking problem. Bazan got to work exorcizing both his demons and angels, ditching the Pedro moniker in favor of his given name. He’s released the Fewer Moving Parts EP (2006) and two full-length albums, Curse Your Branches (2009), Strange Negotiations (2011) under his own name.

The Passenger String Quartet is an avant-garde, experimental neo-classical group, formed by Northwest composer/violinist Andrew Joslyn. The group is in high demand as studio session musicians, tours & performs original compositions, as well as backs a wide variety of regional, and national touring groups from DJ Spooky, Suzanne Vega, to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis, Ivan and Alyosha, Kris Orlowski, Doug Martsche, and many more.

The Wait is a local, original rock and roll band founded in 1992. Local musicians John McGah (Arlington High School Class President 1987) Shawn Norton (Somerville High School grad, current Medford Police officer) and Domenic Botolino (Matignon High School 1987, former Arlington resident and teacher in Arlington) started The Wait in the summer of 1992 to write and play their music. For the next six years the band worked their way up to headlining clubs around Boston, Maine, Tennessee and beyond. They shared the stage with local acts such as Guster, Tom Hambridge, Charlie Farren, and The Swinging Steaks and got one of their songs played on The Real World Boston on MTV. They received a glowing review in those days by legendary Boston Globe music critic, Steve Morse.  The recent lineup saw the addition of two stellar musicians. Greg Scapicchio (owner of GS Music in Medford, MA) joined in 2010 as bassist extraordinaire, and Kevin Faller (Medford Police Department) joined in 2014 and plays keyboards.

It has been four years since the band played in Arlington and they are thrilled to play the wonderful Regent Theatre. They are excited to have comedian Mike Prior (Arlington High School Class of 1986) opening up the show. Mike has toured with several national recording artists such as Weird Al Yankovick, and Randy Travis.  He was one of the featured performers on a Comedy Central special in 2004, and has played supporting roles in commercials for the New England Aquarium and Boston Center for the Arts.  His ability to work clean has made him a fan favorite at hundreds of corporate and college venues. Mike has an amazing ability to turn life’s most frustrating moments into hilarious stories in which everyone can relate.  The victim of a recent mugging, Mike now calls himself a professional victim.  He believes that if there was ever a school for professional criminals, he would be the first homework assignment.

This screening is part of Centro Presente’s efforts to educate the Greater Boston community about the reality of immigration and the life of immigrants, especially the undocumented, in the United States. This special screening will be followed by an audience Talk Back with testimonies from the organization’s members who have experienced similar journeys as those depicted in the film

Deep in the sun-blistered Sonora desert beneath a cicada tree, Arizona border police discover a decomposing male body. Lifting a tattered T-shirt, they expose a tattoo that reads “Dayani Cristal”. Who is this person? What brought him here? How did he die?
And who—or what—is Dayani Cristal?

Following a team of dedicated staff from the Pima County Morgue in Arizona, director Marc Silver seeks to answer these questions and give this anonymous man an identity. As the forensic investigation unfolds, Mexican actor and activist Gael Garcia Bernal retraces this man’s steps along the migrant trail in Central America. In an effort to understand what it must have felt like to make this final journey, he embeds himself among migrant travelers on their own mission to cross the border. He experiences first-hand the dangers they face and learns of their motivations, hopes and fears. As we travel north, these voices from the other side of the border wall give us a rare insight into the human stories which are so often ignored in the immigration debate.
WHO IS DAYANI CRISTAL? WEBSITE

As the real-life drama unfolds we see this John Doe, denied an identity at his point of death, become a living and breathing human being with an important life story.

Winner of the Sundance 2013 Cinematography Award and nominated in the World Documentary Competition, “Who is Dayani Cristal?” has been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “A deeply moving doc [which] finds a new way of making the immigration debate personal.”

Stick Men is a progressive rock band formed in 2008 and created from musicians with extensive experience playing together. Pat Mastelotto and Tony Levin are the rhythm section of the legendary band King Crimson and Markus Reuter is a composer/guitarist who designs and plays his own unique touch style guitar.

Stick Men is a rock trio like no other. Playing instruments not seen or heard every day, and writing captivating and challenging music, they embody the tradition of forward-looking rock music.

Levin and Mastelotto, the powerhouse rhythm section of King Crimson for over 20 years, bring that tradition to all their playing. Levin plays the Chapman Stick, from which the band takes its name. Having bass and guitar strings, the Chapman Stick functions at times like two instruments. Markus Reuter plays his own self-designed touch guitar - again covering much more ground than a guitar or a bass. And Mastelotto’s drumming encompasses not just the acoustic kit, but a unique electronic setup too, allowing him to add loops, samples, percussion, and more.

The result; audiences are fascinated by watching just three musicians onstage perform pieces like Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, King Crimson’s Red and Lark’s Tongues, as well as wild improvs and their own catalog of unique music. Stick Men have released 5 CDs; Soup, Absalom, OPEN, DEEP, and the most recent Power Play (2014), a live album. They have toured extensively, now spanning 5 continents. Stick Men

Tony Levin:
Born in Boston, Tony Levin started out in classical music, playing bass in the Rochester Philharmonic. Then moving into jazz and rock, he has had a notable career, recording with John Lennon, Pink Floyd, Peter Gabriel, Yes, Alice Cooper, and many more. He has also released 5 solo CDs and three books. In addition to touring with Stick Men, he is currently a member of King Crimson, of the Peter Gabriel Band, and of the jazz band L’Image. His popular website, tonylevin.com, featured one of the web’s first blogs, and has had over 5 million visits.

Pat Mastelotto:

A self-taught drummer from Northern California, who has also been involved with pushing the envelope of electronic drumming. Pat has spent a lifetime jumping genres from pop, to prog, to electronica to world music with – among others – Mr. Mister, XTC, David Sylvian, The Rembrandts, TUNER, Kimmo Pohjonen, and for the last 21 years with King Crimson.

Markus Reuter:

Markus is a composer, guitarist, and producer. Initially trained as a pianist, he subsequently studied Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft and learned to play the Chapman Stick, later moving onto the U8 Touch Guitar. Reuter has released many solo recordings and worked extensively with other musicians. He is one of the core members of the experimental band Centrozoon, is half of the duo Tuner (with Pat Mastelotto) and was also a member of Europa String Choir. Reuter has collaborated with Ian Boddy, Robert Rich, No-Man singer Tim Bowness, and many others.

Web Junkie (directed by Hilla Medalia and Shosh Shlam) takes audiences inside a Beijing treatment center and explores the cases of three teenagers who suffer from this 21-century disorder. The program admits children between the ages of 13 and 18, and forces them to undergo military-inspired physical training and comply with monitored sleep and food standards. Despite such conditions, parents voluntarily send their children to the treatment center and relinquish personal involvement.

But as these young teens struggle with online withdrawal and a controversial treatment, questions about the nature of addiction, emotional attachments and cure come to the fore. Ultimately, Web Junkie provides a microcosm of modern Chinese life and takes a hard look at one of the symptoms of the so-called Internet age.

Support The Brad Delp Foundation by joining us for a very special event.  Sunday, October 5th will see the release of “Two Days a Week,” a 45rpm vinyl record produced as a limited edition pressing of 500—featuring two previously unreleased Brad Delp songs written, produced and recorded with Steve Baker: “Sunday In The Dark” and “Tuesday”.

The concert features an all-star lineup of Brad’s friends and collaborators performing the music they wrote, recorded and played together—including appearances by Beatle Juice and RTZ bandmate Brian Maes.

The evening also features a rare performance from members of Brad’s former band, Howard Roark And The Architects. The reimagined lineup features John Muzzy of Beatle Juice and David Stefanelli of RTZ on drums, Richie Bartlett of the Fools on guitar, the incomparable Steve Baker on keys, plus Joe Holaday and Roger Kimball sharing the bass duties. Roger played with the original HRATA and also played with Brad in his high school band The Monks. Brad’s formidable vocal shoes will be filled by Fortune frontman Bob Vose and Michael Payette who shared time with Brad in the studio.

Look for this special evening to end with all of the participating musicians on stage for a Grand Finale of some of Brad Delp’s favorite tunes!

About Brad Delp

Born June 12th, 1951, and raised in Danvers, MA, Brad Delp’s life changed in 1964. The Beatles’ appearance on The Ed Sullivan Show set in motion the musical career of one of the most readily recognizable voices in rock history.
The youngest of four children, Brad was a singer from the start. As a child, he joined his church choir.
He later sang with his band The Monks, playing shows around town with his high-school friends, often at the local YMCA. He worked in a manufacturing plant making heating coils for Mr. Coffee machines. His was an ordinary life.
His friend Barry Goudreau changed that, with a series of introductions, and Brad found himself singing for the hugely successful band Boston. The debut album landed the band in the Guinness Book of World Records as the highest-selling debut album of the time. Brad contributed all vocals for the first three Boston albums, and is heard on the Greatest Hits and Corporate America albums, as well. He toured most recently with Boston in 2003 and 2004.
Brad also sang on Barry Goudreau’s self-titled solo album, and his Orion the Hunter album. In the 1990′s Barry and Brad formed the group RTZ, and later, in 2003, they released the Delp and Goudreau album.
In the early 1990′s, Brad formed what he referred to as his “hobby band”, Beatle Juice. With four friends, he set out to recreate the sounds of the band that had inspired him so long ago, and that continued to delight him through the years. Described as “the next-best thing to the real thing”, Beatle Juice played the Boston and southern New Hampshire area regularly for nearly 15 years. Brad would often say, “It’s the only thing that can make me feel 15 again.”
In private life, Brad was an avid movie buff who loved to share with his friends his extensive knowledge of films. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle through the quiet New Hampshire countryside, and often vacationed at Walt Disney World.

“TWO NASHVILLE OUTLAWS, ONE OUTLAW NIGHT”

Johnny Cash and Waylon Jennings were two of the most important figures in the 1970’s Outlaw movement within Country Music. Two great friends that shared many stages together over their careers that lasted decades and who both left behind a legacy of songs that are a part of the American Music Landscape. This is a full band concert extravaganza proudly recreated by The TRUCK STOP TROUBADOURS The “Regional Champions of Classic Country & Rockabilly Music” are bringing folks the chance to Experience these “Two Legends” in a Live Show . A Tribute To WAYLON JENNINGS and JOHNNY CASH “Two Nashville Outlaws/One Outlaw Night”

When it comes to The Outlaw Sound and Movement in Country Music one name stands tall above all others, and that name is Waylon Jennings. Waylon bucked the system by refusing to follow the Nashville Establishment and make music his way. His way broke down walls and left a catalog of some of the best known Country songs including hits like “Good Hearted Women”, “Mama’s Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”, “Only Daddy That’ll Walk The Line” and the Number 1 TV Theme “Good Ole Boys” from the Dukes Of Hazard. Along with Waylon and what made him and his sound unique was his instance of using his band in the studio instead of the same studio players that made up most records out of Nashville. The sound of his band is raw and live even on recordings and for any fan of pure music, it is undeniable. Along with his sounds was Waylon’s swagger and stage persona, his dark aviator glasses, leather vest, black hat of an outlaw and his signature leather tooled Telecaster as his six shooter.

With this full band tribute to Waylon Jennings people will be able to relive or see for the first time the power and emotion of what was a Waylon show. The Cut time beat that was a staple of his sound along with the undeniable Bass lines and the Steel Guitar sounds of people like the late great Ralph Mooney and of course the Phase 90 Sound of Waylon’s Tele. These elements topped off with the Grizzled Baritone of his voice singing some of the most honest lyrics ever put on tape. Any fan of music will be entertained and blessed to have seen this show.

The Truck Stop Troubadours shine like a “can’t miss it” neon beacon on the well-traveled highway that is Country Music. The Truck Stop Troubadours a Massachusetts/Pioneer Valley -based band that specializes in their own, unique brand of country music that ropes you right in and doesn’t let you go..

With hints of Rockabilly, Blues and Gospel liberally mixed in, and telling stories of life, love and lust, the music of The Truck Stop Troubadours seamlessly weaves a modern voice into the fabric of the timeless traditions of barn-burning, foot-stomping’ country music. These guys put a fresh spin on country with their decidedly original songs that are well written, fine-tuned and replete with absolutely catchy hooks. And this band can just as easily take the old, familiar country standards to places and heights previously unexplored. When The Truck Stop Troubadours place their indelible stamp on these old nuggets it’s like hearing them again for the first time…

The live show demonstrates how well The Truck Stop Troubadours give a collective tip of their hats to the greats who came before them. The musicianship is second-to-none and this band can cover all the bases. The vocals and harmonies stand as firm reminders of what authentic great country music should sound like. But make no mistake about it, the music of The Truck Stop Troubadours breathes an undeniable new life into that old tried and true, three-chord song formula that still stands today as the master template for country music.

With Truck Stop Troubadours the recipe of a seasoned, strong vocal mixed right up front, and then masterfully intertwined with guitar, pedal steel, bass and drums, creates a sound that makes anyone listening swear that the jukebox just came alive. Great original songs, mixed-in with classic country gems, get the dance floor crowded in a hurry. The complete package makes for an unforgettable musical experience that translates to country and non country fans alike.

That experience has a name…

Truck Stop Troubadours. Accept no substitutes, there’s nothing better !

Legendary country rebel Johnny Cash comes to life in the re-creation show “Cash Is King”. With a career spanning half a century and countless hits, including “Folsom Prison Blues,” “I Walk the Line” and “Ring of Fire,” and the list goes on. The Man in Black became a musical icon. Now you can experience the father of Outlaw Country as he was in his prime, from his Sun Records days to his historic concert at Folsom Prison. Singer Brian Chicoine captures Cash’s trademark baritone, while his band delivers the infectious, driving rhythm of the Tennessee Three. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Johnny Cash show without Mrs. Cash, June Carter, brought to life by Vicky St. Pierre on such classic duets as “Jackson.” With authentic costumes and stories from Cash’s eventful life, Cash Is King is the true Johnny Cash experience.

Vince Martell, Vanilla Fudge Lead Guitarist and US Navy Veteran—just back from Vanilla Fudge’s worldwide tour—will perform live a rare acoustic set of ‘60s music with special guest, Denver recording artist, Peg Pearl (PBS:Love-In: A Musical Celebration with Ben Vereen).

The documentary feature, Rockin’ the Wall, is the compelling story of rock and roll’s part in bringing down the Berlin Wall and smashing the Iron Curtain. Told from the perspective of rockers who played at the time, on both sides of the Wall, and from survivors of the communist regimes who recalled the lifeline that rock music provided them, Rockin’ the Wall features new interviews and several original songs written exclusively for the film.

The message that emerges is that music is a force of liberation, and in a society like America’s, where it is seldom - if ever – truly suppressed, music failed to ignite a social revolution. Behind the Iron Curtain, where the mere act of expressing one’s individuality constituted a potential act of revolution, music provided the key thread upon which the anti-communist struggle gained ground.

ABOUT THE REMAINS
Inspired by a trip to swinging London, The Remains formed in 1964. Along with groups like The Lovin’ Spoonful and The Byrds, The Remains were a strong American response to the sounds of The British Invasion.

The Remains formed in 1964 at Boston University, where all four members were first-year students living in the same dorm in Kenmore Square. Singer-guitarist Barry Tashian and keyboardist Bill Briggs were from Westport, Connecticut, drummer Chip Damiani from Wolcott, Connecticut, and bassist Vern Miller from Wharton, New Jersey.

They took Boston by surprise. The line of fans stretching from Kenmore Square to Fenway Park meant only one thing: It was “Remains Night” at The Rathskeller (The Rat) and by New Years Day 1965, The Remains were signed to a major recording deal, playing to packed venues throughout New England. At the end of the 1965 they had two regional hit singles on Epic Records and had performed for 14 million viewers on Ed Sullivan’s Christmas Show.

Their 1966 self titled album is a garagey tour de force, wending it’s way through classic psychedelia, soul, and vintage fuzz. With the success of their fourth single, Don’t Look Back, At The 2010 Boston Music Awards The Remains hit a new level, playing high profile shows up and down the East Coast and scored an opening act spot for The Beatles on their final US tour.

The Remains went on to cult success, and in 2002, thirty six years after the release of their first record, the band recorded Movin’ On. Movin’ On shows a more mature Remains, but with no exuberance lost. The passion and soul have stayed with The Remains and their music as they’ve branched off into new territory. Movin’ On has touches of Country and Rockabilly slap-back, but the fun ethic of Garage Rock pervades each and every track.

ABOUT THE DOWNBEAT 5
For well over a decade, the Downbeat 5 have been considered one of Boston’s preeminent Garage Rock bands. The band has performed for thousands at Boston’s First Night, as well as with some of the nation’s top bands at leading rock venues up and down the eastern seaboard and repeatedly at events like SxSW. The Downbeat 5’s enduring reputation is built largely on the strength of its founders, the tag team of vocalist, Jen D’Angora, and lead guitarist, JJ Rassler, formerly of DMZ. A mainstay on Little Steven’s Underground Garage radio program, the Downbeat 5’s snarling, sixties-rooted sound has had them sharing stages with such notable bands as the Zombies, the Knitters, the Hoodoo Gurus, the Pretty Things, the Surfaris and many more.

ABOUT CARDINAL
Was there chamber pop after the Beatles and Bee Gees and before Belle & Sebastian? The missing link is Cardinal’s self-titled debut. The album’s release in 1994, which seemed to come out of nowhere, with its layered textures and delightful melodies, swimming against the tidalwave of grunge. It ushered in an era of renewed appreciation for the orchestrated pop music of the 1960s, and at the same time inspired and influenced a host of modern artists, who followed in Cardinal’s footsteps, endeavoring to duplicate its majesty and sound so classic. Founded by Richard Davies, Australian by birth, Welsh by parentage, and American by choice, along with Oregonian Eric Matthews, Cardinal was formed when the unlikely duo met in Boston, Massachusetts. Davies most notably had been in the band the Moles, which led him from his native Sydney, to London, and then to New England, while Matthews was born in Southern California, studying music at a conservatory in San Francisco before moving to the northeast.

WMBR’s Pipeline! at 25 Presents: 50 Years of Boston Rock

WMBR, operating from the campus of MIT, is a noncommercial, all volunteer radio station run by MIT students and community members. WMBR’s unique and innovative programming ranges from hip-hop to classical, punk rock to jazz, blues to celtic fiddle tunes. Its live local rock music show, Pipeline!, debuted on the airwaves on March 2, 1989 with a smoking hot performance by Boston favorites The Zulus. Since then it has broadcast live performances weekly, mostly by Boston bands, but also by talent from other places in New England. Many bands that have gained national and international attention over the years played Pipeline! on their way to the top, while others only managed to attract the ears of a select group of fans, as well as those of a show host whose ears were tickled enough to invite them down for a live on-air set.

2014 is the 25th anniversary year of Pipeline!‘s inaugural broadcast, and to celebrate that milestone, it is hosting something of an epic festival, featuring as many as 80 bands who have reunited to revisit the music they created in decades past. Over five weekends and 13 nights at five different venues in the Metro Boston area, carefully hand-picked acts representing the very best of the Boston rock underground from the ‘60s to the 2000s will take to the stage once again to deliver the sounds that got them notice many years ago. It’s unlikely to sound like simple nostalgia, although that surely plays into it. The dynamism of so many of these performers today will no doubt cast its own spell upon those lucky enough to catch them once more, or experience them for the very first time.

50 Years of Boston Rock takes place from Friday, September 12 - Sunday, October 12 at various venues in Boston, Cambridge, Brighton, Somerville and Arlington. We are pleased to be presenting this night’s performance at Arlington’s Regent Theatre.

Featured Performers for 9/26/14:

The Barnies

Dumptruck

Dumptruck was an American rock musical group formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1983 by composers, guitarists and singers Seth Tiven and Kirk Swan. The principal songwriter and sole continuous member of Dumptruck is Tiven. Born and raised in Connecticut, he moved to Boston in 1978 and performed in several local bands with Swan and drummer Mark Mulcahy (later of Miracle Legion). In 1983, Swan and Tiven formed Dumptruck and began writing songs. The duo recorded six songs with Mulcahy at a local studio. “[They were] demos, really, more than anything else,” Swan recalled on the liner notes to the 2004 reissue. Pleased with the results, the duo recorded six additional songs with drummer James Clement and released D is for Dumptruck on Incas records in 1983. The record was well-received “The dozen songs fall somewhere between Joy Division and the dB’s,” said The New Trouser Press Record Guide. The duo added Shawn Devlin (later of Helium) on drums and Steve Michener (later of Big DIpper) on bass for live performances and signed with Big Time Records.

Their second album, Positively Dumptruck was recorded at Mitch Easter’s Drive In studio in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with Don Dixon producing. The record was played heavily on college radio and Dumptruck won the Best Independent Album Award at the Boston Music Awards. “By the end of 1986, a year and a half of pretty constant touring had taken its toll on the band,” Tiven remembered. “Steve Michener had quit the band shortly after Positively had been released ... When we returned home from a particularly grueling 3-month tour just before Christmas, Kirk and Spike [replacement bassist Michael ‘Spike’ Priggen] made a decision to leave the band.”

When Tiven and Devlin were uncertain about continuing the band, the label urged them to move forward, offering them a chance to record their next album in Rockfield Studios in Wales with producer Hugh Jones. Tiven and Devlin recruited Kevin Salem (guitar, backing vocals) and Tom Shad (bass) and began rehearsing Tiven’s new songs. For The Country was released in September,1987 to highly positive reviews. During the tour to support the album, the band discovered that Big Time Records was in financial difficulties when checks issued by the label bounced. The band learned that the label had failed to renew the band’s contract prior to its expiration date.

In early 1988, the band learned that Big Time was negotiating to sell Dumptruck’s contract to Phonogram Records. The band’s lawyer sent Phonogram a copy of the expired contract with a letter instructing the label to negotiate directly with them. When Big Time discovered that the band was attempting to negotiate directly with Phonogram, the label sued Dumptruck for breach of contract, requesting $5 million in damages, and threatening the other label with a $10 million lawsuit for tortuous interference. Phonogram (and subsequently, other labels) declined to sign a contract with the band until the suit was resolved, leaving the band with no way to release new material. After almost three years Dumptruck received a default judgment against Big Time Records when the label’s attorneys failed to appear in court for a hearing. The band (which had filed a countersuit) was awarded $240,000 (very little of which it received from the now-bankrupt label) and the rights to its Big Time recordings. After one of the creditors of Big Time Records filed a lien for rights to Dumptruck’s master recordings, the band broke up in 1991, and Tiven moved to Austin Texas.

After relocating, Tiven worked as a computer programmer. Songs recorded by the band between 1988-91 were eventually released as Days of Fear in 1994, on Unclean Records. Tiven has issued two other records under the Dumptruck name: Terminal (1998) and Lemmings Travel to the Sea (2001), both on Devil In The Woods Records. Dumptruck continues to perform occasional shows in the Austin area.

The Dumptruck line-up for the Regent show will feature band founder Seth Tiven, long-time Boston rhythm section Brian Dunton and Shawn K. Devlin, and guitarist Alan Durham (from Austin, TX), who has previously played with Alejandro Escovedo and with the Bodeans.

Vapors of Morphine\
From the ashes come Vapors of Morphine (formerly known as Members of Morphine & Jeremy Lyons, and the Ever-Expanding Elastic Waste Band). The group has advanced from performing tunes by the seminal rock outfit Morphine, adding psychedelic renditions of African Blues, originals and obscure covers of rock, Delta Blues and New Orleans second-line tunes. They are played with inventive arrangements and the unusual yet funky and powerful instrumentation of electric baritone saxophone, two string slide bass or guitar, and drums. Vapors of Morphine leave audiences from Boston to Chile, New Orleans to the Netherlands, wantng more.

The band formed officially in 2009, when the group played Nel Nome Del Rock Festival in Palestrina, Italy, ten years after Morphine leader Mark Sandman died on the same stage. Since then the group has released one eponymous CD, and played selective shows at home and abroad. Highlights have included The New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival (2012); New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience (2011); Maquinaria Festival in Santiago, Chile (2011); and Virada Cultural Festival in Sao Paulo, Brazil (2012). Members of Morphine recently played Film Festivals in Spain and Holland (PLAY-DOC 2012 and PLAY/IDFA 2011, respectively) in tandem with screenings of Cure for Pain: the Mark Sandman Story, a new documentary about the late singer. The band has played club dates across much of the Northeast and Midwest United States and in Argentina.

All three of the surviving members of Morphine—baritone saxophonist Dana Colley, original drummer Jerome Deupree and succeeding drummer Billy Conway—met guitarist/singer Jeremy Lyons in September of 2005 after he was washed up on Massachusetts’ shore from New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. After informal collaborations prompted Dana to invite Lyons to the gig Palestrina, Lyons had a 2-string slide bass like Sandman’s built and began learning much of the Morphine cannon. The group plays with either or both of the drummers, so has appeared both as a trio and quartet.

Starting in the spring of 2012, original drummer Jerome Deupree took a year-long hiatus for health reasons; Billy Conway now lives out West in Montana, so Boston drummer (and Jerome’s protegé) Jeff Allison has been adding his own spin, filling in on local and regional gigs, and now shares drums duties with Deupree.

Big Dipper’s Bill Goffrier & Friends
In 1986, former members of Volcano Suns, Gary Waleik and Steve Michener (the latter was also in Dumptruck), recruited guitarist/vocalist Bill Goffrier (formerly of The Embarrassment), and drummer Jeff Oliphant (formerly of XS and the Iron Gerbils), who was Gary’s cousin, to form Big Dipper. They recorded a six-song demo and one of the tracks, “Faith Healer”, received regular airplay from local college radio stations. Their first release was the 1987 mini-album Boo-Boo on Homestead Records. The full-length album Heavens, released later in 1987, has been described as “one of the finest American indie albums of its era”. Their second full-length, Craps, followed in 1988. Three of the band members contributed to the songwriting. One of the tracks on the album reflected Goffrier’s interest in extraterrestrial phenomena, with the song “Semjase” about a Swiss farmer who in the 1970s claimed to have been regularly visited by Semjase, a woman from the constellation Pleides. They signed to Epic Records for 1990’s Slam. This would prove to be their final album. Michener left the band and they continued with various players for two years, splitting up in 1992 after releasing a 45 and recording more than an albums worth of material.

In 2008, Merge Records released a 3-CD anthology of Big Dipper’s Homestead recordings, with additional material, including the unreleased tracks recorded after Michener left, titled Supercluster: The Big Dipper Anthology. This renewed interest has prompted the band to reform for some live shows in April 2008.

In 2009, MTV Games released the songs “All Going Out Together”, “She’s Fetching”, and “Younger Bums” for the Rock Band video game series. In 2011, their 1987 song ‘All Going Out Together’ appeared in the film ‘I Melt With You’, directed by Mark Pellington. The song also appears on the soundtrack CD to the film on Lakeshore Records. In November 2012, Big Dipper released their first new album in twenty-two years, Big Dipper Crashes on the Platinum Planet on Almost Ready Records.

The Jigsaws
The Jigsaws are an original rock band steeped in the post-British Invasion, post-Power Pop, post-Punk tradition. Their 1992 single “Luggage” topped the local charts on WFNX and received substantial college airplay, especially from WMBR. The Jigsaws released two full-length albums, Cereal Toy in 1993 and Wicked Alternative in 1995.

The Barnies
The Barnies formed in 1991in Somerville, where “barnie” was the term locals used to describe an artist, musician or other creative type who couldn’t afford Cambridge rents. The late Mikey Dee of WMFO was an early supporter of the band, helping to raise its profile in Boston’s pop scene. The Barnies were part of the 1992 Rock ‘n’ Roll Rumble, and went down fighting valiantly against Stompbox. The band quirked hard to shed their initial “work-pop” image. Or rather…the band worked hard to shed their initial “quirk-pop” image.  Twice, they briefly added second guitarists (Tony Fuentes, Chris Dyas), but eventually forged a strong identity as a dynamic pop trio with elements of cowpunk, jazz and metal.  The Barnies officially disbanded in 1995, but continue to perform in the Boston area every few years.

Now in its ninth year, the REEL ROCK Film Tour features a special presentation of the highly-anticipated feature-length film “Valley Uprising.”
Watch the OFFICIAL Trailer
The greatest untold story of American counterculture is that of the Yosemite Valley rock climbers. For the past fifty years, Yosemite’s massive cliffs have drawn explorers and madmen to leave materialism behind and venture onto the high, lonesome granite.

The larger-than-life characters of Yosemite carved out an “extreme bohemian” lifestyle in the Valley, living on red wine and boiled potatoes, clashing with National Park authorities, and pioneering the boldest climbs on Earth. The torch has been passed down across three generations of climbers; through rivalries, tragedies and triumphs, the art of Yosemite climbing has advanced beyond anyone’s imagination.

Valley Uprising is the riveting, unforgettable tale of this bold tradition: half a century of struggle against the laws of gravity — and the laws of the land.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis were the hottest act in America during the early 50’s. Dean of course was the straight man, and Jerry added the comedy. Never have two artists captured the very essence and chemistry of these two celebrities more than Tom Stevens and Tony Lewis.

Both of these incredible performers have each had amazing success on their own. Tony spent the last 27 years performing in Australia and created a name for himself as the quintessential “Jerry Lewis Tribute Artist” selling out countless venues and earned respect as one of Australia’s best entertainers. Since his 1st appearance at the annual Dean Martin Festival in 1998, Tom Stevens has earned his title as “Best Dean Martin Tribute Artist.” Even Dean’s daughter, Deana said, “I’ve never seen anyone look and sound more like my Daddy!”

MUSIC * MOVEMENT * COMMUNITY * POSITIVE VIBES
CHECK OUT THE NEW VIDEO PROMO FOR THIS EVENT!
Reggae music was hewn from the turbulent cold war politics of the 1970’s from which the cry of the downtrodden and forgotten peoples of Jamaica were expressed through this powerful musical art form. Bob Marley was able to synthesize this cry for justice, equality and love into a universal message that continues to resonate across the globe as a reassuring beacon of truth. Today, as man-kind grapples with critical issues of climate change and extreme economic inequality, reggae music can and must play a critical role in helping to effect transformative changes in mind, body, soul and society!

To this end, a nation wide mobilization is taking place on September 20/21 in NYC called THE PEOPLE’S CLIMATE MARCH. We are collaborating with 350MA.org to present a multimedia reggae experience with a powerful set of Marley’s music followed by an equally powerful set of contemporary reggae and offering a $5 discount to the show if you purchase a bus ticket to attend the march!

Not only can you experience an inspired night of music and visuals that artistically engages these issues, but you can partake in direct action to help bring about real positive change!

About 350MA.org / Better Future Project

Better Future Project is a Cambridge-based local climate network nonprofit founded in January 2011. In spring 2012, Better Future Project staff began a series of meetings and conversations with fellow activists about the need for a grassroots climate network in Massachusetts. Those conversations grew out of many years of collaboration on 350.org actions and events, and they led to the creation of 350 Massachusetts as a volunteer-led, campaign-focused network. 350MA began with one node in Cambridge in June 2012. With support from Better Future Project staff, 350 Massachusetts has grown into a much larger network with ten nodes in every part of Massachusetts. (350MA is not a program or chapter of 350.org, but rather a Better Future Project.) OFFICIAL WEBSITE

People’s Climate March

In September, heads of state are going to New York City for a historic summit on climate change. With our future on the line, we will take a weekend and use it to bend the course of history. In New York City there will be an unprecedented climate mobilization – in size, beauty, and impact. Our demand is a world we know is within our reach: a world with an economy that works for people and the planet. In short, a world safe from the ravages of climate change. This moment will not be just about New York or the United States. Heads of state from around the world will be there, as will the attention of global media. We know that no single meeting or summit will “solve climate change” and in many ways this moment will not even really be about the summit. We want this moment to be about us – the people who are standing up in our communities, to organize, to build power, and to shift power to a just, safe, peaceful world.  To do that, we need to act – together.

A gorgeous look inside honeybee colonies

Monday, June 10 at 7:30pm

Bookmark and Share

Taking a journey through the honeybee colonies in California, Switzerland, China, and Australia, “More Than Honey” explores bee decimation. The same scenario is repeated around the world: 50%-90% of bees are disappearing from colony to colony. The bee epidemic has started a phenomenon known in the scientist community as, “Colony Collapse Disorder.” The dying species has had a negative global effect, and without the bee population, our humanity will slowly be affected.

Director and writer, Markus Imhoof travels from the different regions to interview beekeepers’ work to preserve their colonies. With their knowledge and practice in the bee world, the beekeepers show the daily paradox working in both natures’ rhythm and against it.

“This. Film. Is. Fascinating.” – Cleveland International Film Fest*

“Surprisingly up-close images of bees at rest and in flight give buzz to an inescapably downbeat topic”

Featuring 2011 Grammy nominated vocalist Judy Pancoast

Pancoast was just eleven years old when her older sister told her about a song she’d heard on the radio, and said that the girl singing it sounded “just like you.”  That was the summer of 1970, and when Judy finally heard “(They Long to Be) Close to You” it was the beginning of a childhood adulation that would last well into her adult years.  She spent her adolescent and teen years listening nearly non-stop to the music of the brother and sister duo who called themselves “Carpenters,” and she became one of the charter members of their fan club at age 12.

Judy’s natural rich alto voice blended well with Karen’s, and she spent countless hours in front of a mirror with a hair brush “microphone” mimicking her idol’s voice.  Later, while a music major at the University of Maine, she was advised to “stop trying to sound like Karen Carpenter,” but although she managed finally to all but erase the traces of Karen’s styling, the influence had already had its impact.  Randy Schmidt, author of “Little Girl Blue: the Life of Karen Carpenter” says this about Judy: “…her velvety voice, phrasing and conversational delivery of a song are all products of years spent listening to the timeless recordings of the Carpenters. Her passion and joy for the material make Judy the perfect vocalist to pay tribute.”

“... Pancoast kept her audience thoroughly entertained for over two hours, reaching people on an emotional level. Pancoast didn’t settle for imitation. She channeled the essence of what The Carpenters always tried to do: show respect and warmth for the people they were singing to. And Pancoast has a voice to handle the technical challenges and emotive qualities of that music…. ”—Bill Copeland Music News

Between Identity, Willpower, and Passion:
This is Tango Now’s Identidad Renews the Tango Experience on the Stage

It is midnight outside: a magical and mystical time for hundreds of cultures past and present.  Respect, appreciation and fear for this moment infuses the bodies and minds of those brave enough to venture on it.  In Tango the midnight, its darkness, and the pulse of the city at that very moment conjures the deepest introspection, and opens up a window for change. But more than a moment in time, the midnight is a portal, it represents the end and the beginning, when and where things die, are born, and reborn, and this cycle goes on repeating itself for all eternity.

It is midnight inside: in the depths of people’s hearts and minds.  The introspective mood allows our main character, the Marionette, to realize her condition.  Devoid of freewill she suddenly grasps the distressing reality that, like most everyone around her, she has been manipulated her entire life.  On her side, the Duende, the incarnation and materialization of the midnight, the spirit of passion and change.  Against her, the Puppeteer, the manipulator, the one who won’t let her go.  What follows is a struggle for freedom, for a new identity, for willpower, and for the right to live life with the fullest of passions.

This is Tango Now’s Identidad, is the creation of three highly accomplished artists: dancers and choreographers Fernanda Ghi & Guillermo Merlo, and musician and anthropologist Alfredo Minetti.  They felt a gap in the world of tango shows as well as a need from contemporary audiences that was unfulfilled.  They decided then to go beyond the traditional tango show, creating a complete sensorial experience, using the powerful rationality and emotiveness, and the raw intensity and kinetic energy that only tango has, and created a story that resonates with any person living in the present.  In order to stage it, they decided for a tango quartet (bandoneón, violin, piano and double bass) and selected some of the greatest tangos composed and arranged by Osvaldo Pugliese and Astor Piazzolla.  They selected two more couples of dancers to share the stage with Fernanda & Guillermo, who choreographed the show with some of the best dance one will ever see. And finally, they teamed up with one of the greatest light designers in South America, Aníbal Rea, who took the challenge to add yet another incredible layer to this experience. The result is a tango experience unlike any other!

Every detail of this show has been meticulously and creatively crafted in order to create a magical and mystical experience for the senses.  Much more than performance takes place in the stage.  The trio designed the show to produce a synergy between the performers and spectators.  The nostalgia, sensuality, vulnerability, irony, and passion of tango pour out from the stage infusing every spectator.  The main goal of the performers is to touch the souls of the audiences. Through the deep melancholic passion and cathartic introspection of the tango, audiences will come to see their surroundings with the renewed spirit that the mythical midnight allows — feeling the world as a tango.

Renowned Rock & Roll photographer Kevin Mazur, has pulled together an impressive team for his first feature-length documentary about the changing face of celebrity and the many ways that the media has conveyed, defined, and even demeaned what it means to be famous today.Taking a historical ride through the early days of Hollywood and the rise of the paparazzi, $ellebrity explores how fame has changed from the highly-structured studio system to the current free-for-all press and paparazzi frenzy.

Candid interviews with Jennifer Aniston, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Salma Hayek, Sara Jessica Parker, and Kid Rock among others, help to give a glimpse into the lives of those on the front lines of our increasingly obsessive world of pop culture celebrity.

Fame is now a national pastime, it is what millions of us follow, believe in and seemingly what we care about most - as well as a billion dollar-a-year industry.  But what does our intense fascination with celebrity say about us? And how much is too high a price to pay for our own curiosity run rampant? $ellebrity captures the free-for-all of pop culture today and the ever-changing face of fame.

Until one week before her Solstice Celebration, Deborah Henson-Conant (DHC) will be on a 4-month tour of the U.S. & Europe with guitar legend Steve Vai
(“The devil’s guitarist” from the movie Crossroads who cut his teeth in Frank Zappa’s band). After playing nearly 100 cities in 120 days, DHC brings it all back home in her own solo show at her hometown theater, the Regent in Arlington, MA.

“This has been the experience of a lifetime! Getting to perform one-on-one with one of the greatest living instrumentalists has changed the entire dimension of my own solo show.  And I specifically scheduled this Solstice Celebration right after the tour so I could capture that moment and put it on stage.” Deborah Henson-Conant

DHC’s One-Woman Shows combine Blues-Flamenco-Jazz-World music with solo theatre and an instrument invented specifically for her: the electric body-harp.

Buy VIP tix and you’re invited to the exclusive pre-show Reception RIGHT ONSTAGE with Deborah and a limited group of audience members.  You can see the instruments up-close-and-personal, ask Deborah whatever you want – and then get first choice of theater seats (including the ultra-cushy first two center rows!). Reception begins at 6:45 and ends at 7:20, ten minutes before the house opens to other audience members. (Wine & beer also available at the cash bar).

“An engrossing study in the communication possible…between man and beast.”
- Variety

“That rare gem that reaches out to anyone with a soul and leaves an indelible impression”
- Collider.com

“A crowd-pleaser with a big heart”
- The Hollywood Reporter

Each year thousands of wild horses are rounded up and removed from public lands by the U.S. Government. All will need permanent homes. None has ever been touched by a human hand.

Wild Horse, Wild Ride tells the story of the Extreme Mustang Makeover Challenge, an annual contest that dares 100 people to each tame a totally wild mustang in order to get it adopted into a better life beyond federal corrals.

Stunning and poignant, Alex Dawson and Greg Gricus’ debut feature documentary chronicles a handful of unforgettable characters from their first uneasy meeting with their horses and over three months as they attempt to transform from scared strangers to the closest of companions.

Eventually all will converge in Fort Worth, Texas, to compete against each other and offer the horses up for adoption at an auction in which the trainers, if they wish to keep their horses, must bid against the public.
Hailed by The Hollywood Reporter as a “crowd-pleaser with a big heart,” the film traverses across the United States to tell stories of the profound the bonds that can develop between people and animals. From the rolling hills of New Hampshire to the Navajo Nation to the heart of Cowboy Country, the film captures a journey that is at times harrowing, humorous, heartwarming and heartbreaking as these wild spirits - both human and horse - embark on the ride of their lives.

Powderwhore Productions, a backcountry ski film company based in Utah, is proud to announce its eighth annual ski movie, called “Choose Your Adventure.” The film will premiere at Brewvies in Salt Lake City on September 26th 2012, followed by a 50 city TOUR through ski towns throughout North America.

This movie is such a mixed bag of characters, exotic locations and action that we wanted to get that point across with the title. You really can’t guess what’s coming next in this film, like the Choose Your Own Adventure book series we enjoyed growing up. We’re exploring an abandoned mining town in the Arctic, dropping cliffs with Hugo Harrison in British Columbia, plunging into the Antarctic Sea in speedos, blasting through deep powder, catching up with crusty locals in the Wasatch and more.

Our interest lies in finding people with real stories and ski objectives. We wanted to tag along and capture their actions and motivation for heading into the mountains, creating more of an authentic experience. We traveled light and moved fast to avoid interfering with the actual adventures as they unfolded.

Despite the underwhelming winter of 2011-12, in which snowfall reached near record lows and unstable avalanche conditions, the Powderwhores were able to make the most of the conditions at home and abroad, with trips to Cerro Castillo, Chile; La Grave, France; the Antarctic Peninsula; Svalbard, Norway; Mount Foraker, Alaska; British Columbia, Canada, and the Wasatch Mountains in Utah.

The film features an array of characters from salty backcountry veterans to some of the top skiers and snowboarders, including Chris Davenport, Jake Sakson, Andrew McLean, Seth Wescott, Dylan Freed, Noah Howell, Matt Reardon, Drew Stoecklein, Forrest Coots, Ian Provo, Neil Provo, Chuck Mumford, Darrell Finlayson, Bob Athey, PY Leblanc, Jason Thompson,Todd Stuart and Hugo Harrison.

In the end, this is a feature-length ski film that celebrates exotic locations, wild adventures, and the dedicated personalities writing their own stories in snow.

Jon Cohan and His Golden Rulers play classic American blues, rhythm and blues, soul, funk, and rock and roll from the 1950s - 1970s. Drummer and bandleader Jon Cohan formed the band in 2009 with some of his favorite local musicians to perform at Right Turn Live, a sober cafe in Arlington, MA. Cohan’s goal was simple: to introduce audiences to the great groove-based music he grew up listening to. Since its inception the band has grown into a nine-piece outfit. Boston rock stalwarts like Phil Kaplan of Men and Volts and Sal Baglio of The Stompers join dynamic singer Erica Rothenberg, guitarist Mike Pyle, bassist Jeff Keithline, percussionist Stephen Whitney, saxophonist Artie Camacho, and keyboardist Bob Camacho. The combined talents of the musicians brings a fresh and swinging interpretation to some of the finest examples of American music, including some tasty, rockin’ Holiday tunes for this special Regent concert.

There is something very special about dance. A special magic to the human body moving well that we can all relate to. Add captivating music, glamour and pageantry and no wonder TV dance shows became such an overnight success.

The latest show from the Bellydance Superstars is the culmination of 10 years of touring the world – over 800 shows in 25 countries – pushing the boundaries of the art of bellydance to capture the artistry, magic and passion of this unique dance in all its variety.  So when looking for a name for the 2012-2013 show only one name seemed to sum up what it would be :  “THE MAGIC OF DANCE”

The Bellydance Superstars did not have the luxury of following in another’s footsteps; developing and improving on the work of others along a known course.  They were the first and only full time bellydance show touring the mainstream dance world.  As such they had a lot to prove, mindsets to change and educate as they defined and expanded on the understanding of what this dance art was.  They set a string of firsts; from national TV broadcasts of their shows in North America, Japan, China and elsewhere to performing top level shows in some of the most prestigious venues in the world; venues heretofore reserved for the likes of the ballet or super successful shows like Riverdance.  Their DVDs and CDs are the best known and distributed the world over – even officially released in China.

Above all the Bellydance Superstars are known for a great show – fast paced, lots of variety in music and dance styles, not afraid to fuse other dance arts from ballet to African into their repertoire; seeing bellydance as a big picture with a big future.  As in past shows, the vibrant and exciting music is matched only by the many beautiful costume changes for each number.  All in all when you have great dancers, great music, beautiful costumes, and a dedicated team on a mission to deliver, surprise and excite you will definitely achieve a Magic – that is what THE MAGIC OF DANCE is set to do.

On December 10, 2007, Led Zeppelin took the stage at London’s O2 Arena to headline a tribute concert for dear friend and Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun. What followed was a two-hour-plus tour de force of the band’s signature blues‐infused rock ’n’ roll that instantly became part of the legend of Led Zeppelin. Founding members John Paul Jones, Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were joined by Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer John Bonham, to perform 16 songs from their celebrated catalogue including landmark tracks “Whole Lotta Love,” “Rock And Roll,” “Kashmir,” and “Stairway To Heaven.”

Although 20 million people applied for tickets, the band’s first headline show in 27 years was seen only by the 18,000 ticket holders who were fortunate enough to have secured seats through the worldwide lottery. Now, for the first time, fans in over 40 territories worldwide will be able to get a front row seat to experience this historic event in glorious high definition and incredible surround sound. Experience it on the big screen for a strictly limited period only.

Now, more than four decades later, Hendrix is widely considered the greatest electric guitarist of all time. On Tuesday, November 13, Arlington Community Education and the Regent Theatre will co-host Hendrix at 70, a panel discussion of the life, music and legacy of this rock icon. The program will take place in the Arlington High School Media Center, 869 Massachusetts Avenue.

Panelists include Steve Morse, journalist and long-time Boston Globe music editor; Joel J. Brattin, Hendrix scholar and Professor of Humanities at Worcester Polytechnic Institute; and Carter Alan, author and host of “Sunday Morning Blues” on WZLX/Boston. Leland Stein, Regent Theatre co-owner and lifelong Hendrix enthusiast, will moderate the panel discussion and the Q&A to follow.

The program will explore Hendrix’s legacy and his diverse – and, at times, surprising – influences, and the tremendous impact he has had on a wide swath of music and musicians that followed him. Panelists will highlight songs from his non-hit repertoire with a focus on his gentler side and more lyrical tunes – the hidden Hendrix beyond ”Purple Haze” and “Hey Joe” and the contemplative, humble man behind the flamboyant stage persona.

In the days following this event, the Regent Theatre will host several additional programs in celebration of Hendrix’s 70th birthday.

Thursday, November 15. Hendrix documentary film double-feature: “Jimi Hendrix: Voodoo Child” (2010), 7:15pm, and “Jimi Plays Berkeley” (2012), 9pm. Buy Tickets

Friday, November 16, 8pm. All Star Jam celebrating the music of Jimi Hendrix hosted by the Thaddeus Hogarth Power Trio with Special Guests Tomo Fujita, Julien Kasper, Marty Walsh, and Neil Itzler. Buy Tickets

The Doors Live At The Bowl ’68 is widely held as the band’s best performance ever captured on film. Now for the first time fans can watch the complete version in digitally re–mastered glory as the entire concert has been carefully restored from the original camera negatives to include the lost performances of Hello I Love You, Texas Radio and the Big Beat and Spanish Caravan. The film opens with a special feature of interviews with the band talking about what it meant to perform at the Hollywood Bowl and the enduring significance of this concert. More than 40 years after their debut album, The Doors’ music and legacy are more influential than ever before. Though they’ve had scores of imitators, there’s never been another band quite like them and this film will appeal to their many fans – both their original followers and a younger generation discovering The Doors now.

Running time: 92 minutes (includes 20-minute interview prior to concert)

“His humble sense of humility is what makes Trapper’s songs so strong… He makes you feel like you are the person he’s singing about.  The Few & the Far Between is another strong addition to the Chris Trapper/Push Stars catalog.”  Popdose

CHRIS TRAPPER began his career as the front man for late-90’s alternative rock band THE PUSH STARS (Capitol Records).  With four CD releases and several high profile national tours—including a run with Matchbox Twenty—The Push Stars served to establish Chris as an authentic talent.

As a modern day singer /songwriter, Chris is most known for his song This Time, the #1 selling song on the Grammy nominated soundtrack for AUGUST RUSH (Robin Williams, Jonathan Rhys Meyers /Warner Bros Pictures).

The newest CD (released October 2011), The Few & The Far Between, is a collection of 14 songs written and performed by Chris Trapper.  This new work was Produced, Recorded and Mixed by Dan McLoughlin (The Push Stars, Mike Peters, Juliana Hatfield) at the Vault Recording Studio, Hoboken, NJ.

Focus tracks include the CD opener, Here All Along, featuring guest vocals by Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty, The More I Think featuring vocals and slide guitar by Colin Hay of Men at Work and Ghost In Your Arms featuring backing vocals from Boston’s own Kristen Cifelli.

The New York Times calls his work “classic pop perfection.”

A prolific songwriter, Chris can boast high profile film placements including There’s Something About Mary (Ben Stiller, Cameron Diaz), The Devil Wears Prada (Meryl Streep), Say It Isn’t So (Heather Graham) and Gun Shy (Sandra Bullock, Liam Neeson) as well as significant television placements including All My Children, Women’s Murder Club, Malcolm In The Middle, a coveted placement in George Clooney’s final episode of ER, the theme song for WB Networks dramedy Pepper Dennis and a cameo on-screen appearance with the show’s star, Rebecca Romjin.

Chris Trapper’s music can best be described as lyrically driven roots-pop with a knack for telling everyday stories filled with extra-ordinary characters.

A respected songwriter of the highest caliber, Chris has written 7 songs with/for Canadian band GREAT BIG SEA, including their #1 single “Sea Of No Cares” from the certified-platinum Sea Of No Cares CD.  Great Big Sea covered Trapper’s song “Everything Shines” and their version served as the debut single off their certified-gold Road Rage CD album. Chris’ songwriting collaborations with Great Big Sea earned him two prestigious SOCAN awards. Rob Thomas of Matchbox Twenty and Antigone Rising have performed other notable versions of Trapper’s songs.

Chris Trapper’s ability to craft songs that are both elegant and accessible is evident on each solo CD in his deep Discography. There is a smart, honest quality to the lyrics that never panders.

Trapper’s live show is a favorite among fans of alt–acoustic music. His on–stage persona is warm and inclusive, his organic understanding of classic pop melody infectious. Audience members seem to particularly appreciate the lighthearted moments with the ukulele. They depart the venue at the end of the evening with the sense of having been truly entertained.

“It’s an incredibly rare musician, particularly in the world of popular music, who is able to forge a career based on quiet dignity and steadfast integrity.”

The Buffalo News

OPENER:
A Fragile Tomorrow has become one of the most respected band of brothers on the road, largely thanks to their venerable work ethic, stellar musicianship, and fans in high places. The four-piece powerpop band is comprised of identical brothers Sean and Dominic Kelly, their younger brother Brendan, and Shaun Rhoades. The band will release their fourth CD “Be Nice Be Careful,” in January.  The new disc was recorded with music legend Mitch Easter as producer and Ted Comerford as co-producer. Known for his work with bands like R.E.M. and Pavement, Easter brought his trademark jangle-pop sound to the band’s compositions.

In 1965 Andrew Loog Oldham, the Rolling Stones svengali, asked filmmaker Peter Whitehead (The Fall, Tonite Let’s All Make Love in London) to accompany them on a quick tour of Ireland. Whitehead was astonished. Not only by the incredible power of the Stones’ performances but especially by the raw energy of the crowds of young people that rushed them everywhere. This new version of this behind-the scenes diary of the early Stones has never been seen; Mick Gochanour and Robin Klein, the team that brought The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus to the screen, have painstakingly restored over 90,000 frames of optical screen prints and negative, going back to the original sound tapes and 3-track live recordings. Included are electrifying performances of “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” “The Last Time,” and “Time is on My Side.” Charlie Is My Darling is an invaluable document, the unseen story of the band becoming the legend.

In addition the feature, the film includes an introduction with Kurt Loder, a filmmaker interview with Dave Grohl and Andrew Loog Oldham, a bonus feature on the restoration of the film, and interviews with the band members.

Some of the many themes addressed in this year’s 2nd annual Arlington International Film Festival are the skill of ‘story-telling’ as is taught and practiced in Marrakech, the historical journey of Indian sarodist, Maestro Ali Akbar Khan and his legendary music, an African-American’s journey from the segregated south to national recognition told through his carving, tooling and dyeing of pictures on leather, non-violence practiced by a little-known movement in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, an intimate spiritual interaction among a trio of human beings during the Holocaust… caught up in a moment of history told through performances of lieders by Schubert, Schumann and Wolf, autism and the struggle of a family to survive it’s demands, and what about the reality of reaching middle age in 2012 and not having found a partner; can we embrace this and celebrate life as it is and still feel whole?  In addition to film screenings there will be Q & A’s with filmmakers/main characters, panel discussions, special live performances and more.

The Arlington International Film Festival is much more than just a film festival; it is a celebration of cultures as well as being a platform for recognizing the common global human experience.  Please come and share these experiences with us.

MUSIC FROM THE BIG HOUSE is an extraordinary story about finding hope, joy and music behind bars. Rita Chiarelli, Canada’s Queen of the Blues, takes a pilgrimage to the birthplace of the Blues: Louisiana State Maximum Security Penitentiary, a.k.a Angola Prison – formerly the bloodiest prison in America.  Rita’s trip turns into an historic jailhouse performance, playing with – rather than for – inmates serving life sentences. Their shared bond of music, and Chiarelli’s ebullient personality, draw striking revelations from the inmates. Rather than sensational stories of convicts, we witness remarkable voices of hope as their love of music radiates humanity and redemption on their quest for forgiveness. Official Film Web Site:

“This is truly an extraordinary documentary which finds hope in the darkest of places, and the music which comes out of it is exhilarating. It’s going to be hard to find another documentary this year with as much heart as this one.” Los Angeles Examiner

“wow…WOW! A film that anyone with hope in his heart will appreciate.” Blog Critics

“Excuse me for gushing, but documentary filmmaking does not get any better than this. This is one of those documentaries that deserve to be seen by… everyone.” Cine Source Magazine

“Backwards” tells the story of Abi Brooks, a fiercely competitive rower, who fails to make the Olympic boat for a second time and reluctantly takes a job coaching rowers at a high school where her boss happens to be her ex-boyfriend. When given a chance to rejoin the Olympic team, Abi confronts the personal sacrifices and professional choices that impact the world of athletes with Olympic ambitions.

“Backwards,” starring Sarah Megan Thomas and James Van Der Beek, is an inspiring story that asks the question, what happens when you’ve spent your life working towards a dream and you don’t make it? How do you move forward from that?

“Backwards” was shot in Philadelphia at some of the City’s best known landmarks including inside The Philadelphia Museum of Art,  on the “Rocky Steps,” along The Schuylkill River and Boathouse Row.

Created by Carol Campbell | Directed by Amy West | Co-Produced by Danielle Hanson & Gail Erdos to benefit Our Space, Inc.

The Goddess Diaries began as an experiment. Several women were asked to write about a specific milestone in their life as part of a Winter Solstice performance at a local church. Borrowing from the Western European agricultural wheel of the year, each monologue represents a time in the growing/harvest season; likewise, each season is a metaphor for each woman’s life event. From a seventeen-year-old’s first gynecological exam to a sixty-six-year-old’s reflection on her divorce and a tween’s exuberance over the success of her first girl-boy party, the storytellers range in age from 11 to 66.

Our Space, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to embracing children and teens who have faced or are confronting cancer by inspiring peace, spirit, and healing within a supportive community, through play, learning, and creative exploration.
Join us for a magical evening filled with love & community and be prepared to be moved, touched & inspired.

In 1995, Zoso was formed to create the most mesmerizing and accurate portrayal of “the biggest band of the 1970’s” - Led Zeppelin (Rolling Stone Magazine). Each member was selected to portray both the appearance and playing styles of Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, John Bonham, and John Paul Jones. Zoso almost immediately developed an outstanding regional reputation and were awarded “Best Tribute Act in California” by Rock City News.

In 1999, Zoso began touring nationally, playing a remarkable 2,400 live performances, honing their show to become one of the most musically and visually rewarding acts in North America. Their passion, musical ability, showmanship and precise attention to detail earned them critical acclaim, name recognition and a large loyal following. The Los Angeles Times hailed the group as being “head and shoulders above all other Zeppelin tributes,” and the Chicago Sun-Times declared Zoso to be “the closest to the original of any tribute.”

Every year since its conception, Zoso continues to play 150 - 180 high profile concerts at performance arts centers, civic centers, theaters, festivals, and universities. Since 2004, the band has been working on numerous shows with Live Nation including a rotation of 9 House of Blues venues. The four permanent members’ mastery of authentic vintage instruments coupled with spot-on vocals, guitar, bass, drums, and keyboards, their compelling stage persona and distinct Led Zeppelin sound, with astounding visual imagery recreates the music, magic, and mystery of a Zeppelin concert. Each of the timeless hit songs performed in their sets are known and loved by generations of fans.

Zoso is comprised of Matt Jernigan (Robert Plant), John McDaniel (Jimmy Page), Adam Sandling (John Paul Jones), and Greg Thompson (John Bonham),

If you missed Led Zeppelin live in the 70’s or are looking for a great chance to relive the “Hammer of the Gods” phenomenon, you must experience what the St. Petersburg Times calls “the most exacting of the Zeppelin tribute bands in existence.”

The Rise And Fall Of The Clash features previously unseen footage of the band at work and at play, interviews with the individual band members and with those who knew them well, and traces the downward trajectory of a band who were at one point “The Only Band That Matters”. This is not a film that pulls any punches, but neither does it overlook the life-changing effect that The Clash brought to so many. Over 90 minutes it paints the fascinating inside story of rival, treachery and betrayal, and the internal band dynamics and managerial interferance that ultimately led The Clash to self-destruct.
