Christine Lavin, John Gorka, Patty Larkin, Cheryl Wheeler, and Cliff Eberhardt…
...on stage together!

ANNOUNCEMENT AND MORE…

Presenting the 27th Anniversary of On A Winter’s Night concerts. Lavin, Gorka, Larkin, Wheeler, and Eberhardt all made it to Boston for the March 13th performance but in practicing an overabundance of caution after Governor Baker declared a “State of Emergency” were not able to perform.
Additionally and in light of concerns related to large indoor gatherings the performers have decided to postpone the February 2021 concert as well.

These five performers are among the brightest stars of the singer/songwriter movement for the past three decades! So, after the outpouring of support for all involved in the postponements and concerns they are returning to perform at Arlington’s Showplace of Entertainment for this special appearance on…

- - - February 5th of 2022 - - -

In 1994 Christine Lavin gathered them together, along with folk and Americana artists to showcase the music of the Winter Season on the now-classic On A Winter’s Night CD, followed by several years of touring collaborations. These artists have released dozens of recordings and toured steadily through the decades, with fond memories of their touring days together.

Now, the winter season is again celebrated by these unique and popular performers, back together by popular demand.

The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra is a giant, 10-vocalist rock band that performs thunderous, fist-in-the-air renditions of classic, iconic ‘60s & ‘70s Rock.

As the works of Mozart and Beethoven live on in symphonies, the URO performs as a unique and unconventional kind of orchestra, bringing to vivid life the glorious music of Queen, David Bowie, The Beatles, The Who and Led Zeppelin. Performing with power, nuance and feeling, the URO is honored to bring these iconic classic songs to today’s audiences. Expanding on their repertoire, the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra also presents specialty concerts performing music outside of their original setlist. These include The Who’s ‘Quadrophenia,’ Rice and Webber’s ‘Jesus Christ Superstar,’ and an evening the group calls ‘Band In Boston,’ where they perform the songs of Aerosmith, The Cars and Boston.

Have you ever been to a film musical and had the uncontrollable urge to burst into song? Do you muse over the endless tailoring opportunities for chintz curtains? Have you always wondered what it would be like to wear a wimple, a military uniform or lederhosen?
Just sit back and watch the original 1965 movie in glorious Technicolor ™ with the lyrics for all the songs on the screen, so you won’t miss a chance to sing your hearts out. The audience takes over as the star of the show from this point and almost anything can happen – the first rule of Sing-a-long-a is THERE ARE NO RULES!

Sing-A-Long Sound of Music is your chance to test your vocal range with several hundred other assorted nuns, Von Trapp family members and Julie Andrews look-a-likes.

The evening begins with a live on-stage show in which your host will lead you through a vocal warm-up, judge the fancy dress competition and award prizes. Costumes are not compulsory but they are highly recommended and you will be amazed at the inventiveness on display. The host will then show you how to use your free goody bag throughout the film and suggest some appropriate heckles and accompanying actions (such as hissing at the countess, barking at Rolf and, of course, cheering for Julie.)

About Candice Guardino…

NYC’s rising funny girl,” writer, actress and storyteller Candice Guardino, is quickly making a name for herself in the entertainment industry with her creative brand of comedy and family humor that’s captivating audiences, through impersonating multi-dimensional characters she has created as well as her phenomenal singing voice. Candice was born in Brooklyn, NY and raised in an Italian family that always spoke at full volume. She grew up singing, dancing, and performing weekly recitals for her family in the living room. As a child, Candice knew she either wanted to perform for a living, or marry John Stamos. After realizing “Full House” had been cancelled (and she got tired of watching the re-runs), she later enrolled into the Musical Theatre & Dance Department of Wagner College in Staten Island. After graduating with a BA in Musical Theatre, Candice moved to NYC to pursue her dream of working in “show biz.” Throughout her career of performing and originating roles on stage in the heart of Broadway, Candice has written screenplays, dramas, sketch comedies, and sitcoms.

For nearly 20 years Johnny A. has traveled the world effortlessly gliding through, bending and blending, musical genres to deliver his own unique style of instrumental guitar music.

To quote the London Free Press:
(Johnny A. is…) “...a musician who resists easy categorization and that’s always cool by us.”

And as JAZZIZ Magazine so perfectly stated:
“Johnny A. has eclectic musical vision and the skills to realize it… A.’s music is both accessible and sophisticated.”

Never content with complacency, and always up for a challenge, Johnny again takes an adventurous musical left turn to present his distinct, instrumental guitar approach in a completely “solo” intimate atmosphere.

With strong emphasis on melody and arrangements from the British songbook of the ‘60s, he is bringing his fluid guitar style to select venues all across the United States for 2021.

The evening promises to be a very special “living room experience” with some of Johnny A’s favorite songs replete with anecdotal stories…all of which have molded him into the musician and person he is today. It’s no wonder that Gibson and Epiphone guitars have honored him with not one but three signature model guitars designed to his specifications.

Don’t miss this rare and unique opportunity to see Grammy Nominated, Boston Music Hall of Fame Inductee and one of America’s finest instrumental guitarists, Johnny A., up close and personal.

Boston Radio Legend discusses his new book, "ON AIR: My 50-Year Love Affair with Radio"

Thursday, June 24th, 7-9pm

Bookmark and Share

This is a FREE Event, but capacity is limited. Reserved seats available soon.

Join us as Radio veteran Jordan Rich discusses his new book, ON AIR: My 50-Year Love Affair with Radio.

Hosted by long time TV personality and local actor, Scott Wahle, Jordan talks candidly about his experiences behind the microphone, from his college days to his many years with WBZ.  He’ll discuss those who mentored him along the way, his love of theatre and music, the mercurial world of radio employment (and unemployment), the support and love of his family, and one key friendship as rock-solid as Mt. Rushmore.  There will also be a revealing look at what it’s been like to interview some of the biggest stars to come through Boston over the years. Filmed in four countries with more than 80 interviews from artists with a combined 58 Grammy Awards by the artist included, “Chuck Leavell: The Tree Man,” an Allen Farst film, is the cinematic documentary theatre premiere that shines a light on one of the great rock’n roll pianist/keyboardists over the last 40 years. About Herb Alpert Is…

John Scheinfeld’s documentary, Herb Alpert Is… is a passionate and inspiring exploration of Alpert’s personal and creative journey that reveals the critical events, experiences and challenges that have shaped an extraordinary life and instilled deep within the Grammy-winning trumpeter the desire to make a difference each and every day. Colleagues ranging from Questlove to Sting and from Quincy Jones to Burt Bacharach, Richard Carpenter , Sergio Mendes, Bill Moyers and Billy Bob Thornton bring their unique voices and perspectives to telling this remarkable story. In their words, the shy, unassuming trumpeter is a musical, artistic and philanthropic heavyweight.

Herb Alpert turned the Tijuana Brass into gold, earning 15 gold and 14 platinum records, winning nine Grammy Awards between 1966 and 2014, and receiving the National Medal of Arts from President Barack Obama in 2012. Herb co-founded the indie label A & M Records with his business partner, Jerry Moss, which recorded artists as varied as Carole King, Cat Stevens, The Carpenters, Janet Jackson, Peter Frampton, Joe Cocker, Quincy Jones, Sergio Mendes, and The Police. A&M would go on to become one of the most successful independent labels in history.
He has shown his striking work as an abstract painter and sculptor worldwide. And through the Herb Alpert Foundation he has given significant philanthropic support to educational programs in the arts nationwide, from the Harlem School of the Arts and Los Angeles City College to CalArts and UCLA.

The OTA (Organized Team Activities) ask “What would our world sound like if Humperdinck wrote ‘Hey Ya!’...?” Jumping across genres and eras in rock music is the band’s specialty. With a tune book of well over 100 songs at their disposal, The OTA can give you virtually anything you might ask for - and so much more than you could possibly imagine.

A captivating live show is what The OTA is all about: a non-stop party with dance-floor-slamming action and organic jams featuring plenty of groove.

The band is proudly partnering with the Regent Theatre for this one-of-a-kind, Live Streamed event, so now you can bring The OTA into your very own home without risking the furniture; no animals will be harmed during the streaming of this performance, but for safety’s sake PLEASE wear your (beer) goggles!

The Band Members…

Brian Rowe… Born and raised in Arlington and Cambridge, MA, Brian has been playing drums since he was fourteen (14) years old. Over the years, he’s appeared with numerous bands throughout the Northeast, most recently smacking the skins for both Reckless and The OTA.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Tim Byrne… Born and raised in Arlington, MA, Tim learned music at the school of hard knocks. Loves his guitars almost as much as his family. Beginning in the 7th grade with his brother in the band, Slaughtered Sheep, followed by the five-piece heavy-metal band Altamira, Tim mellowed in the 90s as a member of the acoustic trio Stakem, Trainor, and Byrne. Back with a vengeance in 2020, Tim is the face of The OTA and loud rock ‘n’ roll is his passion.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Jon Gouveia. Jon’s played in both original and cover bands since the early 90s, gigging at many of Boston’s most legendary venues including the Paradise Rock Club, The Middle East, Hard Rock Boston, and Bill’s Bar. He’s also played on numerous studio albums with original artists/bands, most recently with 25 Pearl on their Celluloid Novelties EP.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Jimbo. Having received an upright bass as a wedding present back in 2009, Jimbo now gets lowdown and funky as half of The OTA’s rhythm section. With future dreams of playing the SAC Club and Zorba Music Hall in Lowellc, MA, this is his first Live Stream on stand-up. Previously appearing at Main Streets Market & Cafe in Concord, the K of C in Arlington, Fusion Taste, Spencerpalooza, and all the porchfests, Jimbo looks forward to the end of COVID and to a return to gigging on the regular.

The OTA is a modern-rock quartet with power and vibe. Fronted by wild man Tim Byrne, music-scene veterans Brian Rowe on drums Jon Gouveia on guitar, and low-end devotee Jimbo on bass, they’re here to put the musical flamethrower to your face! As the featured entertainment for countless weddings, function-hall celebrations, and rock-club nights, The OTA’s music is always familiar but their high-octane energy is completely unique.

BUY TICKETS HERE!

Due to the pandemic, this year it will be a virtual event. This is not unique to TCC but is a new trend in fundraising, and we’re excited about the opportunities it provides for a seemingly endless array of online experiences!

The event will include standards from past events like a raffle, a silent auction, a keynote speaker, and the Pet Photo & Meme Contest (enter your pet and ask your friends to vote!) as well as our favorite MC Joel Kaplan. But this year we will also offer entertaining new activities like: trivia games, cooking lessons (recipes included!), a kids’ room where kids can participate in Cat Chats with Miss Emily (on Twitter at @edrabinski) and download coloring pages, a demonstration by a professional FX creator, a virtual tour of the new shelter, music by our wonderful Kenan Cooper as well as a talk and Q & A with The Kitten Lady, Hannah Shaw, live chats with other attendees, and lots of other fun things to do, listen to, and see!

Space in the “experiences” is limited so buy your tickets now! We hope you can make it; this fundraiser is our biggest and an excellent opportunity to help us save cats’ lives while having a lot of fun!

We hope to see you “there”!

About the Show

For over forty years Boston has had a love affair with Elvis Costello. Maybe it’s the combination of smart and ironic lyrics with impeccable musicianship, or the willingness to explore multiple genres, but his music has always resonated with fans in this town. It’s more than a long string of memorable concerts: the English songwriter had a profound influence on the development of many Boston artists.
This is what makes this show a little different from a traditional tribute show: this is an opportunity for some of the city’s best and most beloved musicians to pay tribute to an artist who shaped and influenced their music. This relationship is also reflected in the song selection. You will hear a lot of the hits, but you will also hear some choice deep cuts from the extensive catalog of this great artist.

Dee Zaster and The Designated Drivers with Special Guest Tommy Dempsey
Dee Zaster will play guitar. The Designated Drivers for the evening will be: Tony Savarino (The Savtones, Ruby Rose Fox) on guitar, Sean McLaughlin (Jenee Halstead, Savtones, Mark Lipman) on bass, Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Seven Mary Three) on drums and Peter Moore (Tanya Donnelly, John Powhida International Airport, and more) on keyboards and vocals.

Special guest Tommy Dempsey is a singer, songwriter and a veteran of the Boston music scene. As front man for international rock bands SuperZero and In The Pink, he released three records in Europe and Japan, touring Japan with SuperZero, and scoring a major regional radio hit with In The Pink’s song “Under Summer Skies”. His latest solo album, Eleven-Eleven is available on all streaming platforms, and he is now at work on a new solo project.

Deborah Henson-Conant is known as the world’s master of the electric body harp - in fact, the instrument is now named after her: The DHC Harp.
A Grammy-Nominated artist for her work creating original musical stories with full symphony orchestra - DHC brings her remarkable instrument, her voice, her stories and her looper pedal to the Arlington Showplace stage for an intimate show that will powerfully remind you why it’s wonderful to be alive.
This is Deborah Henson Conant’s first live performance since the pandemic began.

Forget everything you think you know about harp music. This is a stripped-down, strapped-on, plugged-in harp in the hands of the woman who invented it. You’re inside the mind of a revolutionary instrumentalist and the stories of how that revolution happened - and keeps happening - in a mind without bounds!

And the music? Fingers on strings in ways you can’t imagine, a voice that transforms from lilt to growl, the humor of a life lived large and imperfectly, stories of innocence and grit - and styles inspired by Blues, Flamenco, Folk, Rock, Classical, Celtic - the style of woman who IS her own style of authentic human expression. If you want inspiration to recommit to your own path, this is the show to see.

TWO GRAND CONCERTS NOW AVAILABLE

CONCERT RUNTIME: 67 Minutes

This thrilling salsa group plays dynamic, dance-floor-filling arrangements of indie, alternative, and popular songs that we love from groups like The Black Keys, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Arcade Fire, Spoon, The Cure and more. This band is remarkably innovative, incredibly entertaining and truly astonishing! Watch and listen to salsa with a fresh, entirely original sound for today’s modern audience. Bandleader and Percussionist Gianni Mano has led the W.S.O. through two hit albums and almost a full 10 years of arrangements and live performances throughout the United States – including a lengthy residency at Lincoln Center, establishing the W.S.O. as a groundbreaking force in the worldwide salsa scene. This all new one-hour recorded program was filmed when W.S.O. performed at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC and includes a bonus track of their music video “Love Song” by the Cure, which has attracted almost 4 million unique views!

CONCERT RUNTIME: 115 Minutes

Few performers can lift an audience like Mojo, star of the Bayou Gypsies, performing all original Louisiana music certified by the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. Mojo combines styles in a gleeful gumbo he calls “red hot mojo music” as the band delivers a thrilling crescendo of Cajun accordion, fiddle, rub boards and more. According to Performing Arts Center Directors, Fans, and Producers, none match the unbridled fever this charismatic singer/accordionist and his band bring to the stage.

Hugh Hanley is a nationally–known early childhood educator and musical entertainer who specializes in programs for young children and their teachers and families. His cordial style welcomes and encourages participation, so the audience becomes part of the show.

Hugh accompanies his singing with guitar and banjo and draws on a wide repertoire of songs, fingerplays, and music activities that are engaging and accessible to young children, but they’re so much fun that the grown-ups will love to join in too!

Hugh has been singing with young children for over 35 years. His work has helped him gain an understanding of young children as developing music makers and a familiarity with the environments in which they play and learn. He has learned all of the material he uses in his work from folk traditions, children, and their teachers and parents.

About TuttaCrumbs…

TuttaCrumbs (Jimmy Fox) is a hip-hop, rhythm-rock, blue-wop star with a brand-new album on the way. Fresh out the box with the latest grooves, TuttaCrumbs’ electric jazz-rap serves up swagger to all the party people in the dance hall.

About the performer…

Jimmy Fox, a.k.a. TuttaCrumbs, received his first drum-practice pad in the third grade, and he’s been making music ever since. Now - with the full capacity of a world-class, professional studio at his disposal - Jimmy makes music with a sound that’s both unique and timeless. From two-track cassette tapes to ADAT and the DAW, he’s recorded in almost every format.

Relocating to Boston from Miami in 1995, Jimmy began his professional career as a stagehand for orchestral performances at Jordan Hall, followed by a management stint at a local mastering studio. Seven albums and seven-hundred-plus shows later, Jimmy’s music spins worldwide on college radio stations, iTunes, and Pandora; he’s written music for short films, produced other artists in his studio (e.g. Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers, Latrineagers), and provided entertainment at a wide variety of major events ranging from the AIDS Walk and the X Games to the Brattle Theatre’sTrailer Treats Smackdown.”

Jimmy has also played hundreds of shows with multiple bands at legendary Boston-area venues like the Roxy, the Paradise Rock Club, Avalon, the Middle East (both upstairs and down), Lilli’s, J.J. Foley’s, Wally’s, House of Blues (both locations), the Midway Cafe, the Milky Way, the Beachcomber, the Cantab, Lizard Lounge, TOAD, the Linwood, Great Scott, O’Brien’s, and the Burren. In New York City, Jimmy’s bands have regularly gigged Arlene’s Grocery, the Knitting Factory, Maxwell’s (Hoboken), Luna Lounge, Wetlands, Banjo Jim’s, and other illustrious locales.

Years of experience playing live and in the studio have allowed Jimmy’s music to thrive regardless of format or environment. In 2018, Jimmy’s one-man show, TuttaCrumbs, debuted at MassCann’s Boston Freedom Rally (the second-largest annual “cannabis reform” event in the U.S.). Since then, TuttaCrumbs has proudly and consistently performed locally, including live on WMFO’sOn the Town with Mikey Dee” (a Tufts University tradition and the longest-running performance program on New England radio).

In addition to live shows, TuttaCrumbs continues work in the studio and though the pandemic has put everyone within the arts world in a bind, Jimmy Fox/TuttaCrumbs intends on keeping the music alive throughout 2020 and beyond.

LEE ROCKER of The Stray Cats

Grammy-nominated Stray Cats founder and Bass Player Hall of Famer
Lee Rocker made his mark singing, playing, standing on, spinning and rocking his giant upright bass as a founding member (along with Brian Setzer and Slim Jim Phantom), of the Grammy nominated music group The Stray Cats, who sold over 10 million albums, garnered 23 gold and platinum certified records, and were music video pioneers of the MTV. The Stray Cat’s worldwide mega hits “Stray Cat Strut”, “Sexy and Seventeen” and “Rock this Town” have become a part of the fabric of rock and roll. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has included “Rock this Town” as one of the 500 most important songs in rock.

More about Lee Rocker…

In addition to The Stray Cats and the Rolling Stones, Rocker has toured and performed with George Harrison, Ringo Starr, Willie Nelson, Leon Russell, and John Fogerty.  In 1982 Rocker and his father Stanley Drucker, (classical clarinetist) both received Grammy nominations; this was something that has only occurred twice in the history of the Grammy Awards.  In 2012 Lee appeared on Broadway in the hit musical “Million Dollar Quartet” and in 2014 he was inducted into the Bass Player Hall of Fame. Rocker has received numerous honors for his contributions to music and the arts, including being inducted to the Rockabilly Hall of Fame, the Long Island Music Hall of Fame and he is a recipient of the Visionary Artist Award by the City of Laguna Beach California. In his concert performances, Lee Rocker rocks every town and leaves every audience on their feet and cheering.

Lee Rocker has been consistently touring, recording and performing around the globe since 1980 and has cultivated a fanatically loyal following of rockers, rebels and all types of music lovers. He is known for making his upright double bass appear as if it were a lightweight instrument as he spins, throws it in the air, catches and plays it on stages throughout the world.  His concert show is a time for him to tell stories about his days on the road and in the music business for the last 35 years – including sharing stories about his adventures lugging the giant piece of equipment around.

“Wonderful show, gives you a happy feeling!”

- New York Times

Broadway performers and producers Ron and Barbara Sharpe first met onstage in the original Broadway production of Les Miserables, where they played the romantic lead roles of Marius and Cosette. After being married onstage over 1000 times, they decided to get married and start a family for real!

Now - years later with two grown children, a pair of twins, and three “adopted” family members (the boyfriend, the best friend, and the lovable uncle), the Sharpe Family Singers are bringing their love affair with Broadway to stages across America with a family-friendly, Broadway revue called Married to Broadway. Seasonally, The Sharpe Family Singers’ also perform a BROADWAY HOLIDAY show.

Their repertoire includes songs from new hit Broadway shows like Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen, blockbuster movies like The Greatest Showman, hits from Disney On Broadway and Broadway’s Rock & Roll musicals as well as classic show tunes from Phantom, Cats, Evita, Guys and Dolls, West Side Story, Carousel, Fiddler, Les Miserables and many more!

Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision is a funny, thought provoking and hopeful look at contemporary life and politics through the experience of comedian, commentator and 2018 candidate for LT Governor of Massachusetts, Jimmy Tingle.
The show will help answer the question why would a comedian run for office as it illuminates the 2018 campaign of Jimmy Tingle with passion, purpose and a sense of humor. As the nation looks ahead to the upcoming presidential campaign of 2020, Jimmy Tingle’s 20/20 Vision will entertain, enlighten and challenge the audience to move beyond the current politics of presidential tweets, sound bites and the nightly news cycle and into the realm of long-term thinking and life affirming possibility.

Jimmy Tingle is a comedian, commentator, actor and the founder of Humor for Humanity. He was a 2018 democratic candidate for Lt Governor of Massachusetts and received 41.3% of the vote in the Massachusetts primary in September of 2018.

We the Duppy Conquerors…
...are dedicated to the spirit of Bob Marley’s Music.

We have been making our name as the premier tribute to Bob Marley in New England. We aren’t a “tribute band” trying to look and dress like Bob Marley and The Wailers; we are musicians who respect their sound and spirit. With nearly 3/4 of their repertoire under our belts, Duppy Conquerors are the quintessential testimonial to Bob Marley.

Named after Bob Marley’s hit song entitled “Duppy Conqueror,” the term Duppy Conqueror means “killer of bad spirits,” and that we are! The Duppy Conquerors will, “Lively up yourself,” as you’re jammin’ to Bob Marley’s music! “
(The) Duppy Conquerors are the best Bob Marley tribute I have ever heard!”
Shelley Neill, organizer of the legendary Amandla Festival at Harvard Stadium where Bob Marley and The Wailer’s headlined.

The Wailers first performance in the United States was in 1973 at Paul’s Mall in Boston!

About the movie…

Plagued with one of the highest murder rates in the world, Jamaica tries to inspire its populace by qualifying their national soccer team – the “Reggae Boyz” – for the FIFA World Cup. When their efforts start to fall short, a colorful German coach Winnie Schäfer enters the scene and forms an unlikely alliance with legendary reggae musicians and a Rastafarian factory worker to unite Jamaica beyond the soccer pitch!

Runtime: 75 min

More about The Reggae Boyz…

Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. But on November 16, 1997, when Jamaica’s national soccer team – a.k.a. the ‘Reggae Boyz’ – qualified for the 1998 FIFA World Cup, not a single bullet was fired in the country.

As the Reggae Boyz embark on their 2014 FIFA World Cup campaign, an amateur player named Tuffy’ Anderson dreams of playing on the national team. Tuffy works in a steel factory by day and plays in the local amateur league by night, refusing to give up his dream of one day playing on the national team.

On the soccer field Jamaica’s big dream comes crashing to a halt. After a devastating losing streak, the coaching staff resigns. To revitalize the mission, Jamaica hires the colorful Winfried Schäfer, a journeyman coach who is known in his native Germany as ‘Winnie Wahnsinn’ (’Wacky Winnie’). Seeking knowledge about the local culture and sensing how much music and soccer are intertwined in Jamaica, Winnie meets the local newcomer band ‘Nomaddz’ and visits Bunny Wailer - the lone survivor of ‘Bob Marley and the Wailers’. Bunny introduces him to the ‘benefits of herb’ and suggests “putting Tuffy on the team will change your fortunes.Winnie puts Tuffy on the team who promptly rewards him by scoring a last-minute goal that keeps the campaign alive a little longer. While Jamaica’s World Cup dreams don’t come true in the end, Tuffy’s goal and his courage to keep a dream alive, against all odds, inspires Jamaicans of all stripes and sets the national team on a path to success that culminates with Winnie coaching Jamaica to their first-ever Gold Cup Final.

Fifty years after publishing its first issue, “America’s Only Rock ‘n’ Roll Magazine” remains a seditious spirit in music and culture.

WBCN and The American Revolution is the new, landmark Rock ‘n Roll documentary that tells the incredible, true story about the early days of the radical, underground radio station, WBCN-FM. This locally produced and inspiring film is set against the dazzling but profound social, political, and cultural changes that took place in Boston and across the nation during the late-1960s and early-70s. The movie is filled with rare and original archival audio and video. Produced and directed by Peabody Award-Winning filmmaker Bill Lichtenstein.

As we unite to support one another during the COVID-19 crisis, 50% of the proceeds from the screening of this exclusive digital release will support The Regent Theatre’s efforts in re-opening the venue after the extended intermission and national lockdown.

Enjoy this new award-winning documentary. Support both this ground breaking film and this historic music venue now!

About Through the Doors…

Through The Doors is a multimedia celebration of Jim Morrison and The Doors touring since 1980.

Through the Doors...is re-creation of the sound, look and “feel” of an actual Doors concert and is so complete that it never ceases to startle even the seasoned crew. It starts right away…in the darkened theater, well before the band has taken the stage, anticipation runs hot and the chanting for “Jim” begins. Perhaps it is the audiences’ overwhelming desire to experience a true “Resurrection” that fuels the flames. Or, attribute it if you must, to a legend that survives, even grows, some 40 years after the mysterious death of James Douglas Morrison and the dissolution of his band.

Even now The Doors albums continue to sell and Jim’s face still appears on the covers of magazines, film, television and radio. They serve up the “Lizard King” on a daily basis, and still the masses pay homage in droves that surpass even the dizzying heights of the band’s popularity when still “alive”. And yet, a Through The Doors performance goes far beyond the simple duplication of a concert that would have been standard late 1960’s fare.

This performance is more akin to a Broadway Show or Vegas Extravaganza – seasoned professional actor/musicians utilizing sound, staging, lighting, and projection equipment that audiences have come to expect. The effect is electrifying and the response has been phenomenal, as their longevity alone can testify to.

So, sit back in your seat (for as long as you can), and get ready to travel through the doors of perception, traverse space and time on a psychedelic, mind expanding dance-trance!

What the critics are saying about DOSED…

“must see” -Forbes
“raw and insightful” -RogerEbert.com
“a roadmap to recovery” -Paul Stamets
”...antidote to the opioid addiction” -Merry Jane Media

Synopsis

After many years of prescription medications that failed her a suicidal woman turns to underground healers attempt to overcome her depression, anxiety, and opioid addiction with illegal psychedelic medicine like magic mushrooms and iboga.

Adrianne’s first dose of psilocybin mushrooms catapulted her into an unexpected world of healing where plant medicines are redefining our understanding of mental health and addiction.

Director’s Statement

DOSED is a feature documentary about psychedelics - the most important drugs in the world right now for helping people with depression, anxiety, PTSD, and addiction. It focuses on Adrianne’s healing journey with magic mushrooms as well as a drug called ‘iboga’, which is the only known substance on earth that can break a person’s physical addiction to opioids like heroin.

DOSED presents these solutions in a way the average person can relate to - by capturing Adrianne’s remarkable and very personal journey on film.

Watching DOSED allows you to see that psychedelic drugs like magic mushrooms and iboga can improve the lives of millions who suffer needlessly, and potentially bring an end to the opioid crisis.  -Tyler Chandler, Director

About The Mindfulness Movement…

From Executive Producers Deepak Chopra and Jewel, comes THE MINDFULNESS MOVEMENT, a feature documentary that examines the growing number of people throughout society who believe mindfulness - a peaceful quality of attention anyone can develop by simply focusing on the present moment in a non-judgmental way – is the key to creating a healthier, happier world. For them, mindfulness is the tool anyone can use to make more moments matter in their lives and to help create a more compassionate, caring, and ethical society. Featuring interviews with Deepak Chopra, Jewel, Dan Harris, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Sharon Salzberg, George Mumford, Daniel Goleman and many more.

The film follows the emotionally compelling stories of four main characters (Jewel, Dan Harris, Sharon Salzberg and George Mumford) who reveal their personal hardships and explain how mindfulness transformed their lives. Woven between these journeys are profiles of the leaders, history and science behind the movement, as well as looks at the many places where mindfulness is already helping to improve society, including schools (from inner-cities to Harvard Business School), Fortune 500 companies, police forces, prisons, network newsrooms, neuroscience laboratories, therapist offices, sports teams, military veterans groups and the health care industry. This documentary is even an interactive experience since viewers will have two chances to close their eyes and practice during brief guided meditations led by well-known mindfulness teachers.

Whether someone is just discovering mindfulness or has been practicing for years, they’re sure to learn something new and be inspired to share the benefits of mindfulness with others as THE MINDFULNESS MOVEMENT continues to grow.

Bob Dylan once called this man a “Folk Italian Hero” and it wouldn’t be an understatement to say, that’s about the highest praise Francesco De Gregori could receive. Many years into his career now, Francesco is still managing to live up to the praise, taking his timeless folk songs to bigger crowds than ever, all over the world.

Even for non-Italian speaking audiences there is still something deeply moving about Francesco’s music. It has a worldly European nostalgia about it which he displays as he takes crowds through up-tempo rockers and wistful ballads often leading at front-of-stage with his acoustic guitar and harmonica. The most surprising thing is how cool the man manages to look. Sporting his trademark trilby hat and a dapper suit, Francesco carries himself with a class and sophistication that helps to make his music all the more powerful.

Its no surprise that the man known as “Il Principe dei cantautori” (‘The Prince of the singer-songwriters’) is still going today because music as timeless as Francesco De Gregori’s will always find a stage to be played on.

ABOUT THE FILM

As imaginative as the creative process it documents, A DOG CALLED MONEY is a uniquely intimate journey through the inspiration, writing and recording of a PJ Harvey record. Writer and musician Harvey and award-winning photographer Seamus Murphy, hatched a collaboration. Seeking first-hand experience of the countries she wanted to write about, Harvey accompanied Murphy on some of his worldwide reporting trips, joining him in Afghanistan, Kosovo, and Washington DC. Harvey collected words, Murphy collected images. Back home, the words become poems, songs, then an album, which is recorded in an unprecedented art experiment in Somerset House, London. In a specially constructed room behind one-way glass, the public - all cameras surrendered - are invited to watch the 5 week process as a live sound-sculpture. Murphy exclusively documents the experiment with the same forensic vision and private access as their travels. By capturing the immediacy of their encounters with the people and places they visited, Murphy shows the humanity at the heart of the work, tracing the sources of the songs, their special metamorphosis into recorded music, and, ultimately, cinema.

ABOUT PJ HARVEY

During the alternative rock explosion, several female singer/songwriters rose to prominence, but few have proved as distinctive or as widely praised as Polly Jean Harvey. PJ Harvey is one of the world’s most respected and awarded recording artists. From the outset of her career she has commanded global attention as an accomplished composer, multi-instrumentalist, lyricist and poet. Harvey has released nine-critically acclaimed albums, been nominated for six Grammy Awards and is the only artist to have received the UK’s prestigious Mercury Music Prize twice.

Since half a century Adriano Celentano is the most loved artist in the Italian showbiz. Whatever he did, he always amazed, innovated and leaved a sign. His countless hits beat the time of three generations.

Maurizio Schweizer’s natural likeness, both physical and vocal, is the spark lighting the Celentano Tribute Show, a concert including a lot of the most beautiful songs from Molleggiato’s repertoire, performed totally live by the eleven elements band with original arrangements.

During his life, Maurizio a thousand of times has been told “Do you know you look like…”, “Do you know you sing like…” So, when at last he decided to plan a tribute to the Celentano, he did it paying attention to everything: accurate musical and vocal repertoire learning, 11 pieces band, professional stage costumes (5 look changes during the show), original vintage accessories, correct style scenery, sketches replicated from concerts, TV shows and films from Adriano. Escape the doldrums of Winter and celebrate at Arlington’s Showplace of Entertainment because there isn’t another band in the world that can pull off a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody like the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra! Celebrate the music of…

The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra IS “The Future of Classic Rock”

The URO is 15 stellar musicians—with huge range and a massive repertoire, every show is surprising and unique. 10 vocalists bring the crown jewels of classic rock to vivid life, delivering gripping, unforgettable performances that bring people back again and again.

The URO is an orchestra—Much in the way that the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach, live on at the symphony, URO celebrates the music of rock’s iconic artists: The Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Who and MORE.

The URO is a giant rock band—Celebrating their 15th anniversary year with mind-boggling performances of “The White Album,” “Abbey Road,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Quadrophenia,” “Woodstock” and more, even debuting their own original rock opera later this year.

The URO is “Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind!”—From the first note to the last encore, a bigger-than-life, high-energy homage to bands that audiences can never see, but who’s music remains a vital part of their lives.

In this highly anticipated feature length documentary, the absolute instigator of rock ‘n’ roll, Chuck Berry, is truly revealed, with unprecedented exclusive access. Despite his iconic status, and reverence for his talent by rock’s heroes John Lennon, Keith Richards, Steven Van Zandt, Joe Perry, Nils Lofgren and Alice Cooper, all featured, Chuck Berry was a family man. He was a prolific craftsman of word and chords; an undisputed and stunning combination of talent and charisma. Director Jon Brewer (B.B. King: The Life of Riley, Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark), was personally selected by the Berry Estate to produce and direct the inside story of the man known as the bedrock of rock ‘n’ roll.

“Berry’s life has never been covered onscreen. That changes with Chuck Berry, a film directed and produced by Jon Brewer.” —Patrick Doyle, Rolling Stone

“This documentary focuses on his musical legacy through interviews with the likes of Keith Richards and Alice Cooper and footage from Berry’s estate.” —Ammar Kalia, The Guardian

“The legend is now the subject of Jon Brewer’s upcoming documentary, Chuck Berry, which honours the pioneering rock star through conversations with his peers and family members.” —Daniel Ong, Guitar.com

“Jon Brewer directed and produced ‘Chuck Berry,’ adding to his body of music documentaries, which include B.B. King: The Life of Riley,’ ‘Nat King Cole: Afraid of the Dark,’ and ‘Jimi Hendrix: The Guitar Hero.’” —Stewart Clarke, Variety

The Banff Mountain Film Festival is an international film competition and an annual presentation of short films and documentaries about mountain culture, sports, and environment. It was launched in 1976 as the Banff Festival of Mountain Films by the Banff Centre and is held every fall in Banff, Alberta.
From an exploration of remote landscapes and mountain cultures to adrenaline-fueled action sports, films in this year’s world tour are sure to captivate and amaze the explorer within you.

WHAT IS BANFF?
Banff is not only a town in Alberta, Canada; it is also the name given to the Banff Centre.
The Centre is advancing Canada’s contribution to creativity and knowledge through arts and culture with the mission of “inspiring creativity”.
Located in the heart of Banff National Park, the Banff Centre attracts exceptional artists and leaders from around the world to create
and perform new works of art, share skills and knowledge in an interdisciplinary environment,
and explore ideas and develop solutions in the arts and leadership.

HISTORY
The Banff Centre was founded in 1933 by the University of Alberta with a grant from the U.S.-based Carnegie Foundation. While the Centre began with just one course in drama, its success generated additional arts programs as it became known as the Banff School of Fine Arts in 1935. The name was changed to the Banff Centre for Continuing Education in 1970 to acknowledge the broader educational role of the school. State-of-the-art conference facilities and a new Music & Sound complex were opened in 1996. A few years later in 1999, the Banff Centre was recognized as a National Training Institute by the federal government and was awarded $3 million over three years for artistic training programs. Today, the Centre continues its role as a catalyst for creativity. A globally respected arts, cultural, and educational institution and conference facility, the Banff Centre is a leader in the development and promotion of creative work in the arts, sciences, business, and the environment.
