The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra IS “The Future of Classic Rock”

The URO is 15 stellar musicians—with huge range and a massive repertoire, every show is surprising and unique. 10 vocalists bring the crown jewels of classic rock to vivid life, delivering gripping, unforgettable performances that bring people back again and again.

The URO is an orchestra—Much in the way that the works of Mozart, Beethoven, and Bach, live on at the symphony, URO celebrates the music of rock’s iconic artists: The Beatles, Queen, David Bowie, Led Zeppelin, The Who and MORE.

The URO is a giant rock band—Celebrating their 15th anniversary year with mind-boggling performances of “The White Album,” “Abbey Road,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Quadrophenia,” “Woodstock” and more, and NOW the debut of its own original rock opera, “Come Together.”

The URO is “Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind!”—From the first note to the last encore, a bigger-than-life, high-energy homage to bands that audiences can never see, but who’s music remains a vital part of their lives.

“This portion of the show is meant to give you a feeling of what it was like in the early summer of 1971”, Frey said at the opening of the 2013 Eagles tour, recalling the band’s first sessions at a hole-in-the-wall studio in Los Angeles.

As an homage to the 2013 Eagles tour, Another Tequila Sunrise will be offering a rare reliving of the Eagles acoustic set. Commanding center stage in a semi-circle, equipped with acoustic instruments and percussion, Another Tequila Sunrise performs a carefully crafted set of Eagle’s classics, played with the intimacy one can only experience live in a theatre!

Designed as a relaxing respite from the grand spectacle of the classic Rock & Roll concert and offering an entry point for young children’s ears, our acoustic set will have you remembering why you fell in love with the Eagles in the first place!

Sinopse:

“NRBQ brings joy when we could really use some.” —Elmore Magazine

NRBQ is Terry Adams, Scott Ligon, Casey McDonough, and John Perrin. “NRBQ” stands for New Rhythm and Blues Quartet. The band’s music, a rollicking blend of everything from stomping rockabilly to Beatles-influenced pop to Thelonious Monk-inspired jazz, has attracted fans as diverse as Elvis Costello, Penn & Teller, R.E.M., SpongeBob SquarePants, Ian McLagan, She & Him, Wilco, Widespread Panic, Nick Lowe, and indie-rock band Whitney. NRBQ songs have inspired cover versions by Bonnie Raitt, Los Lobos, Darlene Love, and Dave Edmunds, among many others. In addition, the group served as the unofficial “house band” for The Simpsons for the Season 10-12.  NRBQ has released a series of critically-acclaimed albums in recent years, among them Keep This Love Goin’ (2011), Brass Tacks (2014), and last year’s 5-disc, 50-year retrospective, High Noon which landed on Top Picks lists in Rolling Stone, the New York Times, Goldmine, and more. Of the brand new Happy Talk EP, the Nashville Scene says, “...ties the pursuit of eternal youth to the idea of timeless rock ‘n’ roll.” As the song says, “You’ve got to have a dream, if you don’t have a dream, how you gonna make a dream come true?

The dynamic Tony Wilson and his talented friends present a very special evening of music & dance while highlighting one of our era’s iconic entertainers on the 10th Anniversary of his sudden passing in 2009.

In the early 1980’s, Tony Wilson (aka “Young James Brown”) began his entertainment career as a Michael Jackson impersonator, and was so good at his job, that he was approached to be a body double for Michael Jackson during his VICTORY tour. Tony eventually appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and was crowned the Best Michael Jackson Impersonator

“He (Michael Jackson) would use me for the decoy work,” Wilson said. “I would have on the dark sunglasses and a glove in the limo, and the crowd would come my way…so he’d be able to get-in and get-out!”

Wilson said he still has one of the microphones that Jackson used on his Victory tour.

“What a pleasure it was to meet and work with Michael; the bonus was that I also got to befriend Joe Jackson, who, along with my Godmother Martha Reeves, greatly helped me in my career,” added Wilson.

More show details and Tony’s guests soon!

ABOUT TONY WILSON

Tony Wilson, endorsed as the YOUNG JAMES BROWN by the Godfather of Soul himself, is a Chicago native, and has entertainment in his blood. Since a teen, Tony has been performing and electrifying audiences with his own style, showmanship, charisma and especially, his dance moves.

In his 20’s, Tony began entering contests at the historic Apollo Theater in Harlem and other venues. Tony was actually crowned the Best Michael Jackson Entertainer, and asked to be on the Oprah Winfrey Show, and Joe Jackson, Michael Jackson’s father, took an interest in and liking to Tony.

From that landmark appearance on Oprah, Tony’s life changed. Soon, major entertainers such as James Brown himself were calling on him for movie roles, to be a stand-in, or to even back them with his band. James Brown saw Tony perform, and was so impressed with his unique style and showmanship, he asked Tony to be in Tony Scott’s Internet-only short film Beat the Devil. Additionally, at James Brown’s behest, Tony was personally selected by James Brown to portray the Young James Brown in Funk Blast.

But James Brown was not the only celebrity seeking Tony’s talent; in fact, Tony was not only making a reputation for himself as a versatile singer who could harmonize with the best and belt out anything from Nat King Cole to Barry Manilow; Tony was not only being recognized for his unbelievable moves and grooves—such as moon-walking on his head, doing flips into splits, or spinning 4-5 times around like Michael Jackson—Tony was being recognized by his own peers, celebrities and political leaders, for his musical direction composition and dedication to children.

About Garchen Rinpoche

His Eminence Garchen Rinpoche is one of the foremost Buddhist masters and accomplished Tibetan Lamas alive in this world today. His compassion, love, wisdom, and spiritual accomplishments are legendary. He is one of the highest Lamas of the Drikung Kagyu Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism and is revered and respected by all the different lineages of Buddhism, and beloved in numerous countries across various continents all over the world. His disciples number in the tens of thousands and his dharma activities pervade everywhere. He is truly a living example of an authentic enlightened being and a great Bodhisattva. Famous throughout the world for his vast realization and great kindness, Rinpoche is truly a wish fulfilling gem, and one of the greatest authentic spiritual masters in the world.

Garchen Rinpoche was born in Eastern Tibet in 1936 and recognized at a very young age as the 8th incarnation of Garchen Rinpoche. From that time, he entered into monastic life and studied and practiced the dharma under many of the highest lamas of the Drikung lineage until the age of 19. Garchen Rinpoche then entered into a traditional three year retreat, which was interrupted after two and a half years due to the Cultural Revolution in China. At that time, after fighting in war to defend Tibet and preserve the Buddha Dharma, Garchen Rinpoche was captured and imprisoned. Garchen Rinpoche spent the next 20 years in prison and labor camps in Communist China. While in prison, Garchen Rinpoche met his root Guru, the great Nyingma master Khenpo Munsel, who gave him many essential teachings and pith instructions. Enduring unfathomable hardships, Rinpoche practiced secretly in prison until he attained great profound realization and merged his mind with his Guru.

Since his release from prison in 1979, Garchen Rinpoche has worked tirelessly to restore, preserve, and spread the teachings and blessings of the Buddha Dharma across Tibet, and later, throughout the entire world. In 1997, Garchen Rinpoche came to America for the first time. He has established his main center, the Garchen Buddhist Institute, in Arizona as well as numerous other centers throughout North America, Europe, Asia and South America. With his immeasurable compassion, vast realization and authentic blessings Rinpoche has inspired and guided thousands of Dharma students and practitioners to cultivate love, bodhichitta, and melt the ice block of self-grasping through dharma practice. He is an eminent master of the practices of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, Tummo, the Six Yogas of Naropa, the 37 Bodhisattva Practices, and many others.

SYNOPSIS…

LEFT! vs. RIGHT!          CONSERVATIVE! vs. LIBERAL!          RED! vs. BLUE!

Maybe only the Lord can bring us together in this hilarious and insightful entertainment, where the debate gets hot and the passion gets hotter. GOD – legendary actor, Ed Asner – is a wise, cantankerous and wildly funny deity who confronts two political pundits with a romantic history: Lawrence (a liberal lad) and Leslie (a conservative gal). He is not at all pleased with our politics or what we’ve done to his Creation. GOD HELP US! speaks to audiences of all political persuasions with one essential argument: that we have to listen to each other so that we can all live – and laugh – together.

Starring Ed Asner
Featuring Jerry Bisantz and Barbara Guertin
Written by Samuel Warren Joseph and Phil Proctor
Produced by Liza Asner
Directed by Mitch Levine

About Ed Asner (God)
Versatile, committed, eloquent and talented are all adjectives that describe actor/activist and 8-Time Emmy Award-winning actor ED ASNER. He starred as Carl Fredricksen in Pixar’s 2009 box-office- hit Oscar winning Best Picture UP! and as Santa in the Will Ferrell hit, ELF. Mr. Asner was the recipient of his eighth Emmy Award at The CSA Awards for his guest appearance in the Canadian dramatic series Forgive Me. Mr. Asner is best known for his comedic and dramatic talent as the gruff but soft-hearted journalist Lou Grant, the role he originated on the landmark TV newsroom comedy, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, and continued in the newspaper-biz drama Lou Grant, which earned him five Emmys and three Golden Globe Awards.  Mr. Asner received two more Emmy and Golden Globe Awards for the mini-series Rich Man, Poor Man and Roots.

Edward Asner is widely acknowledged as the most honored performer in American television history (seven Emmy Awards, five Golden Globe Awards), an intrepid spokesman for progressive American ideals, and the bane of the right-wing noise machine that tends to be mainstream media in the USA today. Art and politics, despite routine denials up in the sky boxes, usually intersect. Bertolt Brecht (the German theatre practitioner) knew it and so too does Asner. This full-length documentary probes the ethnic Kansas City roots of Asner’s fascinating life, his early struggles, his inspirations and influences, his remarkable acting career, his brave political activism at personal cost and his unflagging energy to this day as a superb performer on screen and stage. Asner is frank, incisive and often puckish in reflections about himself as well as about friends, associates and enemies.

This 2-time former president of the Screen Actors Guild (1981-85) is as devoutly serious about the craft of acting as he is about sticking to ethical action in public life. Like his famous blunt and beloved screen counterpart Lou Grant, Asner’s personal creed in real life is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable while remaining the consummate professional. This feature documentary, based on extensive interviews at home and on the road, is an entertaining yet intimately informative portrait of one of the finest American actors of his (or any other) generation.  Interviewees include actor Michael Shannon, director Oliver Stone, actor Mike Farrell, theater legend David Shepherd, historian Paul Buhle, theater historian and radio host Janet Coleman, and London film critic Derek Malcolm

Prepare for the Summer and celebrate at Arlington’s Showplace of Entertainment because there isn’t another band in the world that can pull off a cover of Bohemian Rhapsody like the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra! Celebrate the music of…

The URO is a giant rock band—Celebrating their 15th anniversary year with mind-boggling performances of “The White Album,” “Abbey Road,” “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Quadrophenia,” “Woodstock” and more, even debuting their own original rock opera later this year.

The URO is “Guaranteed To Blow Your Mind!”—From the first note to the last encore, a bigger-than-life, high-energy homage to bands that audiences can never see, but who’s music remains a vital part of their lives.

Todd Rundgren

“Considered by many to be the Ultimate Rock Cult Hero Todd Rundgren has maintained a legion of fans through four decades, rivaled only by The Grateful Dead. Todd’s searing guitar work reached a nationwide audience, in his role as lead guitarist for the blues-psychedelic band Nazz. He wrote and arranged almost all of the work that went into the three albums the group produced.

His first big solo success was in 1971 with We Gotta Get You a Woman and in 1973 from the double album Something/Anything? he scored big on the charts with I Saw the Light and a revision of a Nazz song, Hello, It’s Me.
Rundgren has scored huge as a music producer, most notably on Meat Loaf’s Bat Out of Hell opus. In the late 1970s and through the 1980s Todd formed the group Utopia, each member an accomplished musician and vocalist. He has also been called on by films and TV for his musical scores and sometimes tours with Ringo Starr as a member of his All-Star Band.”  Biography By: Buxx Banner

Brian Auger is one of the best B-3 artists I have ever heard in my life. His technique is awesome and the amount of energy he generates is unparalleled and relentless. He is a tremendous talent with a wonderfully warm and compassionate personality, a combination that is hard to beat.
—Herbie Hancock
Those who remain oblivious to the obvious delights of Brian Auger’s Oblivion Express do so at their own risk.

ABOUT FRANK GAMBALE

Grammy winning guitar virtuoso, Frank Gambale, exploded on the L.A. scene in the early ‘80s. His meteoric rise to fame is a testament to his passion-powered playing – a style Rolling Stone magazine called “ferocious!”

Gambale is an inspired songwriter with more than 250 songs published on 20+ albums. His music touches on many styles from rock, funk and jazz to R&B and some Latin and Brazillian influences. He has a strong & long association with Chick Corea thru the Electrik Band and the most recent incarnation of Return to Forever.

As a legendary guitarist, Gambale is an undisputed genius who originated the “sweep picking” technique (a new way to play the instrument) and elevated it to a precise art form now standard in the guitar lexicon. The “Gambale Sweep Picking Technique” continues to inspire generations of musicians. Jazz, rock, metal and progressive artists alike are united in their awe of Frank as both an amazing technician and an unsurpassed musician.

About Krai Thong…

You will be treated to a night of elegant Thai cultural performances, proudly presented by performers from Thailand and New England!

Krai Thong is a folktale originated in Thailand from Phichit Province. It tells the story of Chalawan, a crocodile lord who abducts a daughter of a wealthy Phichit man, and Kraithong, a merchant from Nonthaburi who seeks to kill Chalawan. The story was adapted into a play, credited to King Rama II (r. 1809–1824), and has seen various modern adaptations.

Krai Thong is a real figure, however he has no magical power like in the story. He was from Nonthaburi and worked as a merchant and a crocodile hunter.

After the locals from Nonthaburi Province heard about Krai Thong’s heroism, they established a temple for his courageous act. The temple is called Wat Bang Krai Nai, located near the area of Krai Thong’s old village. The story also reflects how Thai people in old times had a strong relationship with animals. They believed that crocodiles and humans can have relationships and crocodiles do have feelings like humans.

REUSE Because You Can’t Recycle The Planet.
This film isn’t about our waste problem. It’s about solutions. And they are everywhere!

We live in a challenging time. Climate change and mass consumption is threatening our planet’s existence. Excessive extraction of natural resources has created immeasurable waste and pollution. This issue is complicated and imminent. While recognition and awareness is important, direct action is by far the most effective. But traditional recycling is not enough. The reuse mission offers a more sustainable solution that everyone can be a part of. REUSE Because You Can’t Recycle The Planet follows Reuse Pro Alex Eaves’ cross-country adventure to the 48 contiguous U.S. states. On his journey, he finds endless reuse solutions for our waste problem that are not only sustainable, but many of which are easy and fun And he learns just how reuse truly benefits people, planet, and wallet.

There will be a discussion afterwards with the filmmaker Alex Eaves, Box Truck Tiny House creator Derek Diedricksen, as well as representatives from the Town’s Zero Waste Committee and the Recycling Coordinator, available to talk about efforts the Town makes to encourage reuse.
Box Truck Tiny House tours are happening before the film showing: 4-7 PM at the Robbins Library Parking Lot, 700 Mass Ave., also free and open to the public.

Spend an evening with America’s premiere Robin Williams tribute artist.

You may feel you are in the presence of one of the funniest and most beloved comedians in history. Robin was not only a wonderful actor and comic genius, but a philosopher and humanitarian. The show is funny, poignant, and sometimes just a wild ride through the mind of a lovable madman. Robin seemed to always be teetering on the edge of childlike innocence even when he was being naughty.

If you’ve never had the chance to see Robin in concert, now is the time!

The show you will see is the subject of (and fundraiser for) an upcoming motion picture entitled Being Robin. The movie is about an artist who thinks he may be channeling the spirit of Robin Williams. While he wrestles with his sanity, he creates a live tribute to Robin, which becomes a national sensation, and a healing moment in our culture. Being Robin is currently in pre-production. Roger Kabler who performs the tribute and stars in the movie, will hold a short discussion about his unique film, with a Q&A.

As a finale, Roger performs a collection of other impressions in his riotous piece, “Overacters Anonymous.”  After the show, there will be a meet and greet in the lobby, a good chance for the attendees—including potential investors (hello!) to talk to Roger and the producers of BEING ROBIN.

This performance is A Legends of Comedy production

The Beatles’ Abbey Road is a masterpiece filled with classic Beatles songs, such as Come Together, Something, and Here Comes the SunGeorge Martin told the Beatles to think “symphonically,” and they responded by creating the remarkable side two song suite.

Abbey Road was the last time that the Beatles recorded together at EMI Studios — soon-to-be-christened Abbey Road Studios after the album’s release. Despite the bittersweet atmosphere that surrounded the recording sessions, The Beatles’ outstanding songs and performances together with George Martin’s orchestrations produced an album that continues to be regarded as one of the best albums ever created.

“Imagine that the Aurora Borealis could sing: that’s Simrit’s voice. Timeless, Strong, and Ethereal as a whale’s song…”
LA YOGA

“For Simrit, singing is not a performance, it is a sacred worship of the Divine. Her voice, her music, and her teaching, reflect this devotion which seems to come from her so effortlessly. This devotion is a gift, a talent beyond any, that will lead thousands into the lightness of being and awareness that is so vital to humanity in this day and age.”  -SNATAM KAUR

“First of all, I’m such a fan of Simrit.  The first time I saw her live I thought – wow she’s kind of punk rock.  I don’t know why I thought that, but that’s the element that drew me to exploring her music.  Her sense of melody, her energy, and her musicality set her apart. Simrit, to me, is the voice of this new day and age.”  -BELINDA CARLISLE

The Simrit Experience

Some artists can bring true commitment to age-old meditations, urging everyone from pop stars to theater audiences to fall in love with the words of ancient sages. Some artists have a presence that both engages and soothes, an ear that can hear the resonances that bridge continents and souls.

Vocalist and songwriter Simrit, born in Athens, Greece, adopted and raised in the American South, is one of these artists. Her music and artistry, which have attracted fans such as Steven Tyler of Aerosmith and Belinda Carlisle of the Go-Go’s, is known for it’s depth, haunting beauty, edge, and psychedelic atmosphere.

Drawing on the harmonic beauty and melodic sensibilities of the ancient Byzantine, Greek Orthodox chants she grew up with, adding the pulse of the West African drum traditions she studied, and fused with her training in piano and vocals from different traditions, Simrit and her band tease out distinct facets of mystical poetry and the intimate ardors of the spirit.  Over the last several years they have created waves with packed theaters and concert halls, chart-topping albums, and raving fans that have powered a palpable musical movement.

Simrit’s unique sound and artistic contributions have led, inspired and pushed the boundaries of world and chant music into new places, throwing off old conventions.  She mixes distilled philosophical statements with ethereal and hooky arrangements, turns 16th-century Gurmukhi poetry into hypnotically grooving songs, develops anthemic melodies and feels, and creates epic soundscapes threaded with mantras. She brings the depth of the sacred and ancient to the modern.

It won’t take very long after the music begins for you to realize that this isn’t your average concert. From the transcendent sounds, the hypnotic groove, world-class musicians, and Simrit’s mesmerizing VOICE…Get ready for lift off!

FILM SYNOPSIS

Aging local standup comic, Steve Sweeney “The Character King”, gets an opportunity to do a national cable show out of Los Angeles. The only caveat is that Sweeney must drop the locally referenced material from his act, the biggest pieces being the portrayal of his colorful Boston “characters,” that have become a staple of his home field success. He makes the hard decision to stop doing the characters. But, to his dismay, the characters “come-to-life” and seek their revenge; they try to kill Sweeney.

James Brown Band front man and hand-picked protege Tony Wilson—aka “Young James Brown”— and his 11-piece band (including horn section) recreate the Godfather of Soul’s electrifying stage show…

Honoring the Memory of Martin Luther King, Jr.

On April 4th in 1968…

...130 cities throughout America had riots following the murder of The Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr.  James Brown was scheduled to perform on the next evening in Boston on April 5th, but fearing that rioting would occur, officials considered cancelling the concert.

Mayor Kevin White and James Brown talked it through and despite grave concerns, the concert was held as James convinced the Mayor that he would be able to control the crowd—which he did.

It was an historic moment in musical history, as well as the history of Boston.

On April 5, 2019, for the second year in a row we will celebrate and re-live the historic concert…

BACKGROUND:
Electric Church presents the legendary guitarist in full flight at the 1970 Atlanta Pop Festival before the largest US audience of his career. This critically acclaimed film combines color, 16mm multi-camera footage of Hendrix unforgettable July 4, 1970 concert in its original performance sequence together with a new documentary that traces his journey to the festival amidst the dark shadow of civil rights unrest, the relenting toll of the Vietnam War and a burgeoning festival culture that drew together young people across the country who were inspired by the Woodstock festival.

The film details Hendrix integral role in drawing nearly 500,000 people to his Electric Church – a dusty scorching hot pecan orchard in Byron, Georgia some 100 miles south of Atlanta. Together with Experience drummer Mitch Mitchell and drummer Billy Cox, Jimi skillfully blended favorites such as “Purple Haze,” “All Along The Watchtower,” and “Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)” with confident renditions of new songs such as “Freedom” and “Straight Ahead” that had not yet been released on album. As a colorful fireworks display stretched overhead across the night sky, Jimi performed the “Star Spangled Banner” to the wild delight of the massive audience.

The performance footage of the Experience has been carefully restored from the original negative in high definition. The audio soundtrack includes stereo and 5.1 surround mixes by Eddie Kramer directly from the original master tapes.

UN-DEFINING what it MEANS to be a WOMAN in ADVENTURE, SPORTS & FILM

In its fourth year, No Man’s Land Film Festival [NMLFF] has reached audiences in nearly every US state and has breached international borders with events ranging from Canada to Australia. NMLFF celebrates the full scope of woman-identified athletes and adventurers, looking to un-define what it means to be a woman in adventure, sport and film. NMLFF champions women with grit, hustle, determination, and boundless passion, investing them with the respect, support, and media recognition they deserve. Through human collaboration, NMLFF strives to implement and inspire change in the outdoor, sport and film industries, while cultivating a deep interest in exploring the vastness of the planet from a woman’s point of view. The NMLFF mission transcends the films presented, acting as a platform for powerful and progressive movement in the outdoor industry.

With their manifesto: “We are women and we are allies. We are sunsets and alpenglow, dangerous riptides and endless singletrack. We are coffee-fueled optimists who may dance-all-night into an alpine start and laugh too loudly at jokes that no one else understands. But we are more than that. We are the vastness to the mountains, we are the horizon to the sea. We are global and there is no end to our possibility. We are rugged and determined. We are forged from a fire of passion and grit; we are nurtured by adventure. We will not be denied. We celebrate our voices and our bodies: their strength, their power, their ability to move mountains or, at the very least, to climb them. We aren’t just women and we will stand up for our sisters whether or not society recognizes them as such. We are unique. We are individual. We are human. And we don’t draw lines, because everyone defines their own,” No Man’s Land champions women-identified athletes, storytellers and creatives who find inspiration and motivation through adventure, sport and film.

With the help of theatres, nonprofits, climbing gyms and other bold hosts and venues across the globe, No Man’s Land is sharing its mission of un-defining feminine and what it means to be a woman. While the name may sound exclusive, No Man’s Land encourages all genders to attend. Beyond the No Man’s Land’s mission, the films are a strong curation and representation of true outdoor adventure film - and they just happen to only feature women.

40 Years of Elvis Costello and Joe Jackson in Boston – A Tribute

It was 40 years ago today, on March 29, 1979. Elvis Costello and The Attractions rolled into The Orpheum Theater in the middle of their Armed Forces tour.  It wasn’t their first Boston show, but this time it was different. They were angrier and more guarded than usual, not interested in talking to the press and yet once he hit the stage, Elvis delivered! Steve Morse wrote in the Boston Globe:

“Last night show was Costello’s best in Boston. This time Costello demonstrated superior pacing, much more professional lighting and yes, he even smiled. Costello played non-stop, like The Ramones and The Clash in this respect but with considerably more melody, until he paused midway through to acknowledge a near-standing ovation”

Only two months later, on May 25, Joe Jackson would make his first Boston appearance. Coming into town on the wings of the hit single Is She Really Going Out With Him? which would also earn him is first Grammy Nomination, for Best Rock Vocal Performance - Male, the Joe Jackson Band rocked the Berklee Performance Center with the same force and anger that Elvis Costello had at The Orpeum...something that was not lost on Steve Morse in his review for The Boston Globe,

Jackson has often been compared to Costello and there were clearly hints of Elvis,  but Jackson, while his show was angrier than I had expected, was nonetheless much more down-to-earth and approachable than Costello’s.  While Jackson continually reminded us of the conformist ruts we all fall into, he did turn into an unabashed crowd-pleaser by the end”

This double appearance was the beginning of a love affair between Boston and the two English songwriters that still continues 40 years later. The two have also had a profound influence on the development of many Boston artists.

This alone is what makes this show a different from a traditional tribute show: this is an opportunity for some of the city’s best and most beloved musicians to pay tribute to two artists who have shaped and influenced their music. While the focus will be mostly on the early phase of their careers, there will be a few hits from the later years.

Dee Zaster and The Designated Drivers with Special Guest Corin Ashley

Dee Zaster and The Designated Drivers will play the music of Elvis CostelloDee Zaster will play guitar. The Designated Drivers for the evening will be: Tony Savarino (The Savtones, Ruby Rose Fox) on guitar, Sean McLaughlin (Jenee Halstead, Savtones, Mark Lipman) on bass, Mike Levesque (David Bowie, Seven Mary Three) on drums and Peter Moore (Tanya Donnelly, John Powhida International Airport, and more) on keyboards and vocals.

Special guest Corin Ashley has been a mainstay of the Boston music scene for the past 30 years. In the 2000’s he led Boston mod-pop heroes The Pills, as they released three albums and toured extensively around the U.S., Canada, and Europe, opening for or performing with The B-52s, The Libertines, Supergrass, Sloan, Edwin McCain, The Wrens, Juliana Hatfield, The Smithereens, Nada Surf, Jimmy Cliff.

John Powhida and Friends

John Powhida and Friends will play the music of Joe Jackson. Johh Powhida has won the 2011 Boston Rock’n’Roll Rumble with his band John Powhida International Airport, and was also known as the lead singer in the Rudds. A sought after vocalist, after opening for his musical hero Todd Rundgren in the 1990s, he recently has been a featured vocalist for Todd Rundgren Utopia. He has also backed Graham Parker.

The hardest working man of the night will be Peter Moore on keyboards and vocals. Peter leads Boston band Count Zero and was also at the helm of the legendary Boston Music award winning Think Tree . Peter toured as a performer internationally as a member of Blue Man Group’s touring band. Bassist Jim Haggerty has performed onstage with Peter Wolf and performs regularly with many of Boston’s top songwriters including Dennis Brennan and Kimon Kirk. Charles Hansen should be familiar to concert goers and leader of his own original band Gymnasium and as a member of the very popular Handymen and Rockbottom. Drummer Andy Plaisted can be found nearly every night of the week in a Boston club, providing his ace drummer with the likes of Tim Gearan, the Giant Kings, the White Owls and Amy Correia.

ABOUT THE DOCUMENTARY

Five Australian friends attempt to cycle from Oklahoma to California in honor of the mighty westward migration undertaken by ‘The Grapes of Wrath’s’ Joad family.

Seeking to gain a greater understanding of the Dust Bowl, explore the central themes of the novel and discuss their relevance in today’s America, The Bikes of Wrath set-off on their 30-day cycling adventure with no support vehicle, no training and, as one member puts it best, ‘no real idea’.

Loaded with trailers, musical instruments and camera equipment, the group set themselves the additional challenge of surviving on $420 (the modern-day equivalent of the Joads’ $18 in the 1930s) and whatever their musical performances can yield.

Through chance encounters with everyday Americans, the cyclists expand on the novel’s core: migration, inequality and the perceived land of opportunity. The group explores whether America has progressed since the book was written discussing the wealth gap, immigration and the American Dream.

Letting the group into their homes, lives, and demonstrating the startling parallels of ‘The Grapes of Wrath’ seventy-eight years after its publication, these vastly different characters quickly become a central focus of the documentary, as well as integral to the success of the cyclists’ journey.

The Bikes of Wrath uncovers a deep insight into the human spirit and shines a positive light on America at a time when the world needs it most; all rolled into a unique, funny and life-affirming observational documentary filled with adventure, literature, music, and human connection.

STORYLINE / SYNOPSIS:

Peter Pan, the kid who doesn’t want to grow up, arrives at the Darling home searching for his shadow. He meets the Darling children and takes them to Never-Never Land, where they will fight against Capt. Hook and his pirate ship and crew. At the end the children will be back in their warm beds. Written by Adalberto Fornario

James Barrie held out for 20 years before allowing his classic tale of childhood to be adapted for the screen, and every actress in Hollywood wanted the role of Peter Pan. Mary Pickford, Lillian Gish, and even Gloria Swanson thought they were perfect for the role, but Barrie, who supervised this wonderful adaptation, went with virtual unknown Betty Bronson, who was most associated with the role until Mary Martin’s TV role in 1960.

Bike Travel Film Festival features 6 world premiere adventure films

Do you like to be the first to see something exciting?  If so, wheel on over to the 10th Annual Ciclismo Classico Bike Travel Film Festival this Spring: you can catch the world premiere of six different short films, and the USA premiere of two more!  The festival is a celebration of travel and human-powered adventure on wheels, and it is the only event of its type in the world.  Proceeds from the event benefit the Adventure Cycling Association and local charities.

From the frozen streams of the Himalayas to the sultry heat of Thailand, from a father and daughter sharing their first overnight outing to two Boomers finding love on an organized bike tour, there’s over a dozen films with something for everyone at this year’s festival.  You don’t need to be a cyclist to enjoy these tales of adventure! Ciclismo Classico, the longtime pioneer in creative bicycle vacations, is proud to present this one-of-a-kind event.

The festivals start earlier in the year than usual: by starting on March 20th at the Regent in Arlington, we’ll be celebrating the first night of Spring and the unofficial beginning of the cycling season!

One highlighted World Premiere at the festival is Rocky Road Trip: A Himalayan Bike Adventure – it’s our first-ever film featuring teenage cyclists, on a monthlong family trip through some of the world’s most pristine scenery.  Viewers will enjoy the ups and downs of teens on the road without wifi!

Closer to home is the World Premiere of the film Not Quite Out of the Woods. It’s a story of a father and daughter overnight bike-packing trip in Western Massachusetts that celebrates adventure while detailing the family’s first year battling childhood leukemia. Eleanor’s smile and positive attitude proves that happiness is found in pushing limits and seeking new experiences.  As our best film submitted by a Massachusetts resident, this short film won the Bay State Prize.

One USA premiere of note is Riding Faith - The story of Roei Sadan.  American audiences may not be familiar with this extreme adventure athlete, but they will quickly get drawn into this film about his recovery from a life-threatening accident, and his return to cycling.  Despite its brevity (9 minutes) it packs an emotional punch and was chosen as the Grand Jury Prize winner for the event.

Locally notable is the quick and humorous film Making a Splash in Miami, by Greg Hum.  Local cyclists are familiar with Greg as one of the most visible members of the festive monthly Boston Bike Party events – he’s known for drumming while riding, and this film shows his drum-biking adventure in the Sunshine State!

In addition to the 16 fantastic short films on tap, Arlington’s festival features live music from Slow Boat Home, and also the famous Cookie Showcase – an all-cookie buffet featuring the best bakeries of Arlington and beyond.  Each attendee will be entered into a drawing to win a trip to Italy with Ciclismo Classico, and there will also be chances to win a beautiful bike jersey as part of our Great Jersey Giveaway.

The Festival is a production of Ciclismo Classico, a community-minded Arlington company that has been a leader in active bicycle vacations since 1989.  Ciclismo Classico C.E.B. (Chief Executive Biker) Lauren Hefferon says, “Since our start 30 years ago, we’ve always been very involved with the local community. From our annual holiday ‘Jingle Ride’ to the Bike Travel Film Festival, we welcome the opportunity to promote active lifestyles and get people dreaming about their next adventure.”  Through the proceeds from these events, Ciclismo Classico has donated thousands of dollars to a variety of bicycle and other local charities.

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

The Festival’s mission is to inspire attendees to explore by bicycle. Whether across the globe or a few towns away, there’s nothing that recharges and expands horizons like bicycle travel.  The Festival will increase awareness and appreciation for bicycle travel by showcasing independent films that depict the adventure, humor, and growth inherent in two-wheeled journeys.  We seek films that portray a broad range of experiences – destinations ranging from small African villages to a campground 30 miles from home; solo travel or a family reunion on bicycles; an organized tour from inn to inn or a shoestring jaunt with tent and sleeping bag. Ours is the ONLY film festival in the USA that focuses specifically on bicycle travel.

Judy Lei is a violinist, composer and musical cultural ambassador who has performed in solo concerts and many collaborative events.  Ms.Lei has performed in Chicago, New York, Boston, Washington DC, Indianapolis, Salt Lake City, and international cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou , Da Lai, Shenyang, and Hong Kong. As a classically trained violinist, Ms. Lei uses her classical influences and techniques to interpret Pop music, R&B ballads, country & folk tunes, Broadway musical numbers, and Spanish romantic songs. Her own arrangements of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah,” Whitney Huston’s “One Moment in Time,” Led Zeppelin’s “Kashmir,” John Denver’s “Country Road Take Me Home,” Adele’s “Rolling in the Deep” and current pop hits which—together with beautiful classical pieces like “Ave Maria” and Johann Strauss’ “Blue Danube Waltz”—send audiences on a captivating and unique concert journey through a broad and colorful musical spectrum.

The Chicago Times wrote “Ms. Lei’s performance is hauntingly beautiful, the voice of her violin can take you to heaven“.

After Ms. Lei performed with her on stage in Chicago 2016, Motown Legend Martha Reeves commented to Lei “We just witnessed your great God given talent.”

When Ms.Lei appeared on Chinese National CCTV in 2017, the media enthusiastically praised ”Her brilliant play has a radiant impact on the audiences that brings sunshine to the minds.”

Her recent solo performances with the Southwest Symphony Orchestra at Temple of Square in Salt Lake City and the Guangzhou Symphony at Concert Hall of Guangzhou China, received prolonged standing ovations and rave reviews.

Born in China, Lei comes from a family of internationally renowned music composers and authors. Her musical talents emerged at a very early age. At 15, she was awarded first violin position with the Symphony Orchestra of Liao Ning Opera House, later earning a violin performance degree from a top music institution-The Shen Yang Conservatory.  She then became soloist and 1st violin with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Lei arrived in the United States in 1988, continuing her music study under the renowned violinist and professor Mr. Mark Zinger, earning a masters degree in violin performance. Mr. Zinger called Judy Lei a powerfully talented performer.

In her long music career, Ms. Lei views herself not just a violinist, but an ambassador who can build connections between music and people’s spirit, bringing different cultural experiences to people of the world. Using unique performance styles bringing Eastern music to American audiences, she played a solo series called “Music Around China with Judy Lei”. She was warmly received by American listeners. Touring China, she introduced many different styles of western music, especially to college students.  Her powerful performances have been inspiring many young audiences. ABOUT ANN ROBINSON

A rising star in Hollywood in 1953, actress Ann Robinson won the lead role in the genre and trend setting George Pal science fiction motion picture of H.G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds. Today, at 90 years old, she still loves traveling the country and meeting fans at autograph conventions.  Ann will be appearing at her first event in New England on March 15-17 at the NorthEast ComicCon & Collectibles Extravaganza at the Regency Hotel & Conference Center in Boxboro, MA.

Growing up in the proverbial shadow of the studios, California native Ann Robinson acted in grade-school plays. She later fibbed her way into the movie business as a stunt woman on movies such as Black Midnight (1949), The Story of Molly X (1949), and Frenchie(1950).

Ann was part of Paramount’s golden circle of new stars in the early 1950s, but had only one leading role at the studio, in producer George Pal‘s The War of the Worlds(1953).  She went on to break new territory portraying Police Officer Grace Downey opposite Jack Webb in the original 1954 film Dragnet.

Ann Robinson appeared in numerous television programs during the Golden Age of TV including Rocky Jones Space Ranger, Fury, The Bob Cummings Show, Cheyenne, Bachelor Father, Rawhide, Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Death Valley Days, and the TV version of War of the Worlds, along with so many more.

In 1957, Ann ran off to Mexico to marry a famous matador, Jaime Bravo (...as she recalls it “...and blow my career right out of the water!”) Their son, Jaime Jr., became a director with ABC Sports and has won several Emmy awards. Her son Estaphan assists Ann at the shows she attends.

About War of the Worlds (1953)

The War of the Worlds (also known in promotional material as H. G. Wells’ The War of the Worlds) is a 1953 American Technicolor science fiction drama film from Paramount Pictures, produced by George Pal, directed by Byron Haskin, and starring Gene Barry and Ann Robinson.

The film is a loose adaptation of the novel of the same name by H. G. Wells, the first of five film adaptations. It is a modern retelling of the 1897 novel, changing the setting from Victorian era-England to 1953 southern California. Earth is suddenly and unexpectedly invaded by Martians and American scientist Clayton Forrester searches for any weakness that can stop them.

The War of the Worlds won an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects and went on to influence other science fiction films. In 2011, it was selected for preservation in the United States’ National Film Registry in the Library of Congress, being deemed “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”

Let The Sun Shine In!

Milos Forman‘s adaptation of the tribal rock musical Hair stars John Savage as Claude, a quiet young man from the Midwest who becomes friendly with a group of New York hippies on his way to begin basic training in the military. The repressed Claude is quite taken with Berger (Treat Williams) and the group of freedom seekers who reside in Central Park. The group encourages Claude to go after a debutante named Sheila (Beverly D’Angelo). Legendary choreographer Twyla Tharp masterminded the dances, which attempt to flow from the natural settings of the film. The film includes most of the more famous songs from the original play, including “Donna,” “Aquarius,” “Easy to Be Hard,” “Let the Sunshine In,” “Good Morning Starshine,” “Frank Mills,” and the title number.

Sing-A-Long with the acclaimed ‘73 rock opera JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR!

Based on a concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and the subsequent long-running Broadway performance, this film tells the story of the final six days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. Too often mislabeled as a musical, this film is a rock opera. There are no spoken lines, everything is sung.

About the movie…

Relive all of the magic of this beloved musical when Dorothy is whisked away to the enchanting wonderland of Oz, where she encounters the Scarecrow, the Tinman and the Lion. The Wiz features spectacular musical numbers from legendary producer Quincy Jones and an all-star cast including Lena Horne, Richard Pryor, Nipsey Russell and Ted Ross.

Read a portion of Roger Ebert’s Review…
“Magical tornadoes can strike down anywhere, I guess, and spin you off to the land of Oz.” On that wonderfully logical premise, the classic “Wizard of Oz” was transformed into a Broadway musical named The Wiz, and then the most expensive movie musical ever made. Is the movie a match for the 1939 Judy Garland version? Well, no, it’s not (...what movie could be?) but as a new approach to the same material, it’s slick and energetic and fun. The Wiz, directed by Sidney Lumet, is set in present-day New York City, and finds its locations in fanciful sets suggesting Harlem, Coney Island, school playgrounds, the subway system, and a sweatshop. Our heroine, Dorothy, has been transformed from a Kansas teenager to a twenty-four-year-old black schoolteacher and Diana Ross wears the same simple white frock for the entire film and projects a wide-eyed innocence that kind of grows on you…”
—Roger Ebert, 1978

SYNOPSIS
Meet the Beatles! Just one month after they exploded onto the U.S. scene with their Ed Sullivan Show appearance, John, Paul, George, and Ringo began working on a project that would bring their revolutionary talent to the big screen. A Hard Day’s Night, in which the band mates play wily, exuberant versions of themselves, captured the astonishing moment when they officially became the singular, irreverent idols of their generation and changed music forever. Directed with raucous, anything-goes verve by Richard Lester and featuring a slew of iconic pop anthems, including the title track, Can’t Buy Me Love, I Should Have Known Better, and If I Fell, A Hard Day’s Night, which re-conceived the movie musical and exerted an incalculable influence on the music video, is one of the most deliriously entertaining movies of all time.

Although this is not strictly a “Singalong Film” we would encourage our audience to do just that!

Serge Clivio returns to The Regent Theatre’s stage by popular demand!

After premiering his first headlining concert (“Sticks & Stones”) on The Regent Theatre stage in February of 2018 Serge and his talented band booked, sold-out and played legendary venues like New York City’s Cutting Room and Feinstein’s/54 Below. Now, in returning a year later with brand new material, Serge Clivio Live In Concert… ...he will debut an all-new show that demonstrates all the poise and confidence this young, up-and-coming singer, actor and recording artist has acquired. This show is personalized for The Regent Theatre and will feature brand new songs that were all hand-picked by Serge. The audience will get a taste of all the different genres that shaped Serge into the artist he is today. You can expect to hear some pop/rock classics, brand new originals and even a jazz standard or two!

Backed by his incredible band, Serge returns to The Regent’s stage less than a month after an encore performance at Feinstein’s/54 Below, which was titled An Evening with Serge Clivio… (and Friends)! At the helm of the band is Broadway’s Mike Stapleton, currently found playing in the orchestra pit of the hit musical Wicked at The Gershwin Theatre. The show also features Serge’s 3 backup singers, NYU Graduate and RENT 25th Anniversary Tour star, David Merino; New York-based actor and singer, Eddy Cavazos; and actress of the stage and screen, Molly Keane-Dreyer. Berklee College graduates Eric Derwallis (drums), Michael Morrissette (bass) and Matt Sewell (guitar) round out the band.

Serge Clivio Live In Concert is Music Directed by Mike Stapleton and runs approximately 2 hours (with one-15 minute intermission).

ABOUT SERGE
Born in Waltham, Mass. and raised in Arlington, Mass., Serge Clivio found his love for singing right on Medford Street in Arlington. Thanks to his always supportive parents, Serge was enrolled into Mo-Co Music’s (now Torch Light Music School) after-school singing program (led by Maura Lynch and Clyde Ford). Once he finally hit the stage with them, he knew he didn’t want to leave performing for the rest of his life. Years later his journey found him majoring in Musical Theatre at one of America’s most prestigious schools for the arts, The Boston Conservatory. He graduated in 2017 with a B.F.A. in Musical Theatre. Throughout college, Serge performed professionally around the United States. Some of his favorite credits include Cabaret (Lake Dillon Theatre Co.), Sweeney Todd (The Lyric Stage), Fiddler on the Roof (Weathervane Rep. Theatre), to name a few. He was nominated in 2016 for a BroadwayWorld Award for his portrayal of Fabrizio Naccarelli in The Light in the Piazza at Next Door Theater. After graduation, Serge signed with an agency and moved to New York City to chase his dreams. Within his first few months there, he was lucky enough to appear on ABC’s Television reboot of the iconic reality competition, American Idol. In his first year in the Big Apple, Serge signed with a record label and headlined his first concert, Sticks & Stones, to critical acclaim. He and his band were fortunate enough to play full houses at some of the worlds most sought after small venues (The Cutting Room - NYC; Feinstein’s/54 Below). He was also asked back to 54 Below just 1 month ago to perform a special, one-night-only concert titled An Evening with Serge Clivio… (and Friends)! He is currently in the studio working on his second single (out this year) and premiers a brand new, self-titled show at his home stage, The Regent Theatre. As Dorothy once said, “There’s no place like home.” To stay up to date on all of Serge’s events, visit his website.

In 1967, The Beatles embarked on an ambitious project, writing and directing a one-hour film, Magical Mystery Tour.  The music for that film is some of The Beatles’ psychedelic best. In Deconstructing The Beatles’ Magical Mystery Tour, Mr. Freiman delves into the creative process behind “The Fool On The Hill,” “Blue Jay Way,” “I Am The Walrus,” and other selections from Magical Mystery Tour.  Scott also “deconstructs” other songs from the Magical Mystery Tour album, including “Strawberry Fields Forever,” “Penny Lane,” and “All You Need Is Love. In honor of the 40th Anniversary of Van Halen! Tyler Morris, whose Vintage Guitar Magazine exclusive Eddie Van Halen Tributereached over 250,000 views, will be performing Van Halen 1 and other Van Halen classics on stage at The Regent for the first time!

Tyler Morris - Guitars
Craig Rawding - Vocals
Jesse Williams - Bass
Steven Michael Sorem - Drums

ABOUT TYLER MORRIS

Tyler Morris has been playing guitar at a professional level since he was eleven, and at the ripe old age of nineteen he released his third album internationally. Nevertheless, Tyler is not just another young musical genius — his gift runs deeper than an amazing set of ears paired with two very skillful hands. Ever since he picked up a guitar, Tyler has been driven to get to the roots of the songs and styles he learns and absorbs, and to reflect his huge and growing body of influences onto his own interpretations and eventually, his own compositions. Thanks to his father’s music collection, Tyler developed an affinity for Blues and Rock music around the age of six and settled on guitar as his primary obsession within three years. He would work on songs by Eric Clapton, Aerosmith, as well as B.B. King until he could do a faithful rendition of the originals. Tyler then turned to Van Halen, learning their catalog and channeling that style so thoroughly that he was later featured in a blazing tribute video to Eddie Van Halen’s technique for Vintage Guitar magazine. After a few years, Tyler turned his attention to more classically rooted Rock musicians such as Deep Purple/Rainbow’s Ritchie Blackmore, Yngwie Malmsteen, and Jason Becker, and also became interested in Andy Timmons, Gary Moore, Bon Jovi and Journey.

Through The Doors is a multimedia celebration of Jim Morrison and The Doors touring since 1980. This re-creation of the sound, look and “feel” of an actual Doors concert is so complete, it never ceases to startle even the seasoned crew. And it starts right away: In the darkened theater, well before the band has taken the stage, anticipation runs hot and the chanting for “Jim” begins. Perhaps it is the audiences’ overwhelming desire to experience a true “Resurrection” that fuels the flames. Or, attribute it if you must, to a legend that survives, even grows, some 40 years after the mysterious death of James Douglas Morrison and the dissolution of his band.
Even now The Doors’ albums continue to sell and Jim’s face still appears on the covers of magazines, film, television and radio. They serve up the “Lizard King” on a daily basis, and still the masses pay homage in droves that surpass even the dizzying heights of the band’s popularity when still “alive”. And yet, a Through The Doors performance goes far beyond the simple duplication of a concert that would have been standard late 1960’s fare.

This performance is more akin to a Broadway show or Vegas Extravaganza – seasoned professional actor/musicians utilizing sound, staging, lighting, and projection equipment that audiences have come to expect. The effect is electrifying and the response has been phenomenal, as their longevity alone can testify to.  So, sit back in your seat (for as long as you can), and get ready to travel through the Doors of perception, traverse space and time on a psychedelic, mind expanding dance-trance!  Ladies and Gentlemen: Through The Doors!

The Angry World of Brian Webster – WORLD PREMIERE SCREENING

For the first time anywhere, we are proud to present the inaugural public screening of “The Angry World of Brian Webster”, the comically imaginative debut feature film from writer-director Jim Heffernan.

“For almost a year, the effects of Brian Webster’s failure to complete his no-budget horror movie have been taking a toll on everything from his romantic life to his professional responsibilities. In a last ditch effort to help him get back on his feet, his eccentric but well-meaning friends are going to take him on a journey that may either restore his spirits or destroy what remains of his sanity.”

Film entirely in the Boston area, this offbeat comedic underdog tale features humorous performances from a skilled ensemble including stars Chris Goodwin (“Truth Cocktail”), Zach Gillette (“Sheep Skin”), India Pearl (“The Inhabitants”), Nathaniel Cook (“Parts Unknown”), Christina Kostoulakos (“Sweeney Killing Sweeney”), and a variety of talented up-and-comers from New England and across the country.

This one-night-only presentation will include a special introduction by the director and a screening of the short film, “Destroy All Sisters” (15 min.) preceding the feature and a brief Q&A with select members of the cast and crew following the film.

For Mature Audiences Only. Contains language, humor, and subject matter that may not be appropriate for younger viewers.

In November 1940, days after the Nazis sealed 450,000 Jews in the Warsaw Ghetto, a secret band of journalists, scholars and community leaders decided to fight back.  Led by historian Emanuel Ringelblum and known by the code name Oyneg Shabes, this clandestine group vowed to defeat Nazi lies and propaganda not with guns or fists but with pen and paper.  Now, for the first time, their story is told.

Based on the book by Samuel D. Kassow, WHO WILL WRITE OUR HISTORY mixes the writings of the Oyneg Shabes archive with new interviews, rarely seen archival footage and stunning dramatizations to transport us inside the Ghetto and the lives of these courageous resistance fighters.  They defied their murderous enemy with the ultimate weapon – the truth – and risked everything so that their archive would survive the war, even if they did not.

Narration by Academy Award winner Adrien Brody and Academy Award nominee Joan Allen

About the Archive: In 1999, three document collections from Poland were included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register: the masterpieces of Chopin, the scientific works of Copernicus and the Oyneg Shabes Archive.  The Oyneg Shabes Archive is the richest cache of eyewitness accounts to survive the Holocaust.  Despite its importance, the archive remains largely unknown outside academic circles.  The theatrical release of WHO WILL WRITE OUR HISTORY is about to change that.

About the Recent Global Screening Event: Across the world, on one single day, January 27, 2019, movie theaters, churches, mosques, synagogues, universities, museums and community centers screened WHO WILL WRITE OUR HISTORY.  Audiences everywhere joined in a post-screening discussion streamed on Facebook Live from the evening screening at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

SYNOPSIS

London, 1902: An epidemic is sweeping Queen Victoria’s city, and the wards of the Great Ormand Street Childrens’ Hospital are full of young patients. It is the evening of the Annual Governors’ Dinner and Dr. Martin Darling prepares to report the tragic state of affairs. Children are dying, and they can’t find the cause. As the hour of his speech draws near, his children appear to say goodnight, shepherded by his wife Rose, who will be attending the dinner with him.

Despite being left in the protective care of Great Ormand’s Chief Matron Lillie, young Wendy Darling and her brothers encounter a fascinating and magical young boy - accompanied by a ball of light - who promises to change their lives and perspectives forever through adventure, magic, and fairy dust.

Based on the James M. Barrie story, with inspirations from the poetry of William Blake and John Keats, Never Land features a melodic folk rock/pop score with music and lyrics by Graham Peck and orchestration by John David Eldridge.

In this all new adaptation of the classic tale, playwright Jake Egan O’Hara weaves a version of the story that brings to life new meaningful adventures, while re-introducing the famed characters of the fabled island with originality, historical accuracy, heart, humor, soulful strength and purpose: Neverland the noun is transformed into a simple directive: Laugh a lot. Look forward to your dreams.  Never Land.

Follow Wendy, John, Michael, Peter and Tink’r Bell to an island where boys always leave crumbs; pirates are held to the costs of their memories; kindness, strength and happy thought can heal - and where being Lost means you have been already been Found.

Belmont World Film’s 16th Annual Family Film Festival
January 18-20, 2019

Belmont World Film’s 16th Annual Family Festival, “Where Stories Come Alive,” offers nearly four full days of some of the world’s best films for children and adults, as well as a live concert on opening night accompanying the silent films of George Méliès (the subject of Martin Scorcese’s Hugo) and a live version of WBUR’s “Circle Round,” which sold out last year at the Regent. Films are screened in English or their native language with subtitles, most of which will be read aloud via headphones for young readers, and many are being screened in the US for the first time. It might even be your only time to see them in New England.

Each day revolves around a different theme: Saturday is devoted to nature, Sunday to kids not limited by their disabilities, and Monday to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Many films are based on international children’s literature and include stories about birds, nature, a swashbuckling rat, a magical train, a winning lacrosse team, and more.

Mike Bent began his career in magic at age 6, when he checked out his first magic book from the library. That book started him on the path to a lifetime love of learning, creativity and performance that literally changed his life.

Mike started performing when he was 15 years old. By the time he graduated from Emerson College, where he studied children’s writing with Jack Gantos (Rotten Ralph, Joey Pigza), he was performing his original magic and comedy routine at clubs and colleges throughout the country. This led to a performance at the prestigious Montreal Comedy Festival, and numerous television appearances on HBO, Showtime, ABC, NBC, CBS, Comedy Central and A&E.

Mike has been teaching professional comedy writing at Emerson College for more than 18 years. It’s not unusual to watch a comedy show on television and see one of Mike’s former students listed in the credits.

Voted “Best of Boston,” he quickly became established as one of the top kids’ show performers in the United States. His books, products and lectures have become the standard for the industry.

As MAGIC Magazine wrote, “Mike Bent really understands children’s comedy.”

M.U.M Magazine (the official publication for the Society of American Magicians said, “There is no one in the universe that creates magic routines and comedy sight gags as novel and astonishing as Mike does. Throughout the hilarity, the magic he performs is strong: he doesn’t let the gags get in the way of the mystery.”

As a performer, teacher and dad, Mike knows how to use comedy and magic to entertain, educate and motivate children. That’s what AbraKidabra! is all about. Click on the image above to view Mike’s web page…

Magic For Smart People will make you believe in the impossible again while making you smile and laugh. Bob Filene hasn’t always worked as a magician. About ten years ago he had only a rough knowledge of magic tricks gleaned from his teenage years. Then one day a performer in an airport rekindled his interest, leading him to explore the wider magical community. He soon discovered Ray Goulet’s Magic Art Studio in Watertown, which put him into contact with the American Society of Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. As a member in those organizations, Bob has flourished, becoming the magic guy he is today.

ABOUT THE MOVIE…

Every holiday season, countless millions from all over the world gather around television screens to watch their favorite Christmas movies. It’s a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Carol (in all its many versions), A Christmas Story, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Charlie Brown Christmas, and of course, The Polar Express, are all universally beloved holiday movies.

But no list of classic Christmas movies could ever be complete without including 1954’s White Christmas starring Bing Crosby.

White Christmas was a Paramount picture and was the first-ever movie filmed in the then-breakthrough wide screen wonder VistaVision.

White Christmas was released on October 14, 1954. It premiered at New York’s Radio City Music Hall. Variety gave the film a thumbs up, saying: White Christmas should be a natural hit at the box office… ...Crosby and Kaye keep the entertainment going… ...clicking so well the team should call for a repeat…. White Christmas proved a financial bonanza, earning over $12 million dollars at the box office (a Star Wars-like amount in 1954). In fact, White Christmas was the biggest movie hit of the year.

See it now on the big screen accompanied by the Regent Theatre’s concert sound system!

In Boston, the middle of the 1970s Me Decade saw a bunch of young, loud and snotty bands–inspired by ’60s garage rock pioneers like Willie “Loco” Alexander –playing raw, original rock and roll. The Real Kids, Nervous Eaters, DMZ and The Neighborhoods (as well as Alexander’s own Boom Boom Band) were known for their amazing live performances and an unwavering commitment to honest, hard-driving music. This is their story, recounted by surviving band members, as well as people who were on the scene like Denis Leary, Jonathan Richman, producers Rick Harte, Andy Paley, Bruce Dickinson and more. Boys From Nowhere celebrates the transcendent power of rock and roll!

LIVE PERFORMANCE BY THE NERVOUS EATERS AFTER THE FILM!

They recorded an album for Elektra Records which was released nationally in 1980. They also have recorded for Penniman, No Tomorrow and Ace of Hearts Records.

In Deconstructing The Beatles’ White Album Scott Freiman takes Beatles fans, young and old, into the studio with The Beatles as they create their bestselling album (and the bestselling album of the 60’s), The Beatles (commonly referred to as the White Album)—on the 50th Anniversary of its release.

Released in 1968, the White Album’s thirty songs span almost every style of music—from hard rock to country to chamber music to avant garde. Its recording took place during a remarkable year in Beatles history that included the death of Brian Epstein, the creation of Apple Corps, and a trip to India to study meditation.

In this multimedia presentation, Mr. Freiman transports his audience into Abbey Road Studio for a look at the revolutionary techniques used during the production of “Revolution,” “While My Guitar Gently Weeps,” “Blackbird,” and other songs from the White Album. It’s an educational journey into the creative process of The Beatles’ performances and recording sessions, allowing the audience to see and hear the evolution of these groundbreaking songs and their lasting influence on popular music.

THE SHOW YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS…

This is not your typical tribute show. Six talented young artists bring us back to the days of swoonin’, boppin’ and rockin’! With fresh new takes on classic hit songs including That’ll Be The Day, Peggy Sue, Everyday, Summertime Blues, Oh Donna, La Bamba, Chantilly Lace, Beggar to a King, and Twist and Shout, audiences won’t be able to resist getting up on their feet and dancing the night away!

When you look out over the landscape of tribute bands, you may notice that there are a lot them dedicated to Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, The Big Bopper and their infamous 1959 Winter Dance Party. So you might wonder, what is so different about Not Fade Away? Not Fade Away was created out of survival. But not the survival of the players in the band. The band’s young members have played to audiences in national tours and regional productions of various shows. Not Fade Away was created out of the survival of this incredible, legendary and important music created well over 50 years ago.

Having also been a part of many standard tribute shows, Not Fade Away wants to create a new show that will keep this music relevant, give it edge, bring it into today’s music scene, while not forgetting the importance of the music’s place in history and the impact it had on the world. They’re not just looking to dwell on “The Day the Music Died”. These greats were more than their last night on earth. They were the pioneers of rock n’ roll. They gifted an energetic new kind of music, changing the landscape for an entire generation of music listeners and music makers alike. Not Fade Away hopes to revamp and regift those songs to a new generation so that they may last another 50 years

Some Reviews:
With his short, curly hair and thick framed glasses, Mancuso captures not only the look and sound of Buddy Holly but also the spirit of the young rock ‘n roller ... for all sense and purposes, Jared Mancuso is Buddy Holly!
-David Appleford (American Theatre Critics Association) from AZ

The absolutely sensational Mancuso has been spending the past couple years as Buddy, either in regional revivals of the musical that bears his name or in his own self-penned tribute show Buddy’s Back!, and this immersion into Buddy’s life and music shows. Not only is the triple-threat pretty darned sexy even in Buddy’s extra-heavy-rimmed horn rims, he totally convinces us that he is indeed the legendary singer-musician-songwriter, capturing every iota of Buddy’s infectious charm, good nature, and enthusiasm. Mancuso sounds just like Buddy, accompanies himself to perfection on the guitar, and following in the real-life Buddy’s footsteps, holds the audience in the palm of his hand.”
-Steven Stanley (Stage Scene LA)

FILM SYNOPSIS

In 1998 there were less than 1,500 breweries in the United States - now there are over 7,000.  Brewmaster tells the story of the rise of craft beer through two young men pursuing their dreams in the world of beer.

Drew is young New York lawyer who wants to start his own brewery.  He uses every free moment to make this a reality while preparing for a pitch with a potential investor. Brian, an ex-telemarketer, is studying to become a Master Cicerone - the beer equivalent of a sommelier - which requires taking a test only 13 people have ever passed.

Set in the craft beer community, the film features successful brewers Sam Calagione, John and Jen Kimmich, Jim Koch, Garrett Oliver and Rob Tod. This is the definitive documentary on beer and the community of craft beer.
