Hard Shoe Productions--a new group of local performers and concert promoters--will present their debut show, "Celtic Fiddle and Dance," Saturday, October 29, at 7:30pm at the Regent Theatre in Arlington. The performance will celebrate a wide variety of Celtic dance traditions from Cape Breton square dances, to Highland Flings, to Irish jigs, along with modern interpretations of those dances. Featured musicians will include renowned local fiddler/singer/dancer Laura Cortese, Cape Breton star fiddler Andrea Beaton, and the popular piano accompanist, Janine Randall. Musician and Celtic music scholar, Cliff McGann, will emcee the show.

A cast of more than two dozen local step dancers will dazzle audiences with their rhythms, precision, and energetic footwork. Dancers include the Cape Breton-style step dancers Four on the Floor; Irish step dancer and choreographer Kieran Jordan; Scottish Highland dancers Abbie MacQuarrie and Jen Schoonover; fiddlers and dancers Emerald and Eden Forman; plus many more guest dancers throughout the evening.

Celtic music and dance traditions have rich and colorful histories that extend back many centuries. The Scottish and Irish emigrants who settled in North America brought their traditions with them where they took root, especially Eastern Canada and New England. Today, Greater Boston's folk music and dance communities continue to celebrate the lively traditions of Celtic fiddle and dance.
