Chris Smither & The Motivators With special guest Caroline Herring Friday, November 6 at 8PM Reserved Seats: $22 advance, $27 at the door (including $3 facility fee) Please call the box office 781-646-4849 for ticket availability Chris Smither celebrates the release of his 13th CD, TIME STANDS STILL, with a rare band performance. Joining Chris on stage will be his studio mates from the new CD’s January recording session: multi-instrumentalist and producer David "Goody" Goodrich and Zak Trojano on drums and percussion. Performing an opening set will be Caroline Herring, whose lyrics are informed by the literary giants of her native Southland. Her music combines a variety of traditional styles, from acoustic folk to bluegrass and old-time country. Honing a synthesis of folk and blues for more than 30 years, Chris Smither is truly an American original. A profound songwriter, Chris continues to draw deeply from the blues, American folk music, modern poets and humanist philosophers. A blistering guitarist, Chris melds the styles of his two major influences, Lightnin' Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt, into his own signature guitar sound. Reviewers praise his dazzling guitar work, gravelly voice and songwriting. New York Times: With a weary, well-traveled voice and a serenely intricate finger-picking style, Mr. Smither turns the blues into songs that accept hard-won lessons and try to make peace with fate.
Chris may be best known for writing Love You Like A Man which Bonnie Raitt and Diana Krall have covered. His music has also been covered by numerous other artists and featured in various soundtrack albums, independent film, television and commercials. Chris tours nationally and internationally, performing over 100 concerts a year at clubs, theaters and festivals. At the Regent, Chris will perform from his vast catalog including songs from his new MightyAlbert/Signature Sounds release titled TIME STANDS STILL (release date September 2009).
