Thursday, June 28 at 8pm: General Admission--$15.00 (included $1.50 restoration fee) Tickets available at the door or in advance by calling (508) 541- 1736 RootsUprising presents: In Conversation... As a dialogue of dance In Conversation. explores the various ways we interact with one another and the dialogues created by those interactions. Whether cries of outrage, self reflections or silent whispers, the conversations we live challenge our senses, affecting and shaping us into the human beings we become. RootsUprising is a Boston Based performing arts collective composed of dancers, wordsmiths and musicians performing primarily in educational venues; their work reflects the intersections of dance, music, poetry and song which make their performances a total experience. Artistic director and choreographer, Nailah Randall-Bellinger formed the ensemble in 1998, around her performance thesis "Dancing Beloved," from which she received her Masters Degree from Lesley College in 2000. Randall-Ballinger's Master's thesis, "Dancing Beloved"*, which uses dance as text, became the foundation on which the company was built. Since then, the seven corps dancers have performed her body of works at major colleges and universities as well as community venues. The focus of her choreography is the empowerment of African Americans, especially women. RootsUprising attempts to engage its audiences to think about the social and political issues that impact us all. Text in Motion is how Nailah Randall Bellinger classifies her work.
