On Sunday, November 11, the 50-plus intergenerational voices of greater Boston's Family Folk Chorale (FFC), will celebrate the music of Paul Simon in concert at 2 p.m. at the Regent Theatre. Featuring singers ranging in age from 4 to 84, in solos, small groups and the whole ensemble, the Chorale presents songs that are fun to singalong with and promises to be engaging for all ages.
The singers will be supported by the talents of Gary Backstrom of the Gary Backstrom Band on guitar, Dan Dick of Woodwork on percussion and bass guitar, and Linda Ugelow of Libana on bass.
"Simon's music spans the generations," says FFC director Chris Eastburn, " has a diversity of themes that different people of different age groups can identify with, speaks to our common humanity, and has a rich palette of harmonies and supporting lines that make it exciting to arrange for intergenerational voices."
The concert will include favorites from across the spectrum of Simon's career - from the Simon and Garfunkel days (Bridge Over Troubled Waters, Scarborough Fair, Homeward Bound) to various collaborations he's had in his solo career. The concert includes the Gospel inspired (Gone at Last, Loves Me Like a Rock), African inspired (Boy in the Bubble, You Can Call Me Al), and Latin inspired (Me and Julio).
Artistic director Chris Eastburn is an arranger and award-winning composer. Chris is currently working on a ballet score called Newport Stories, writing a set of orchestrations for the Jacksonville Symphony and orchestrating a choral piece for performances at Carnegie Hall in November and June.
"The Family Folk Chorale is what folk music is all about - or what it should be all about - people coming together as a community, crossing generations, and singing because it's what they love to do." --Matt Smith, Manager, Club Passim
