The Remains, led by Barry Tashian, took Boston by storm in 1964 and 1965 playing packed houses everywhere including The Rathskeller where fans lined up from Kenmore Square to Fenway Park to see them. They had several regional hit singles on Epic Records and performed for 14 million viewers on Ed Sullivan’s Christmas Show. In 1966, the group appeared on NBC TV's Hullabaloo, and garnered a coveted spot as opening act on The Beatles’ U.S. tour. Soon after, Epic Records released The Remains’ first album, but by then they had disbanded. Last year, over three decades later, they released a new album, Movin’ On. (Rolling Stone Magazine called their CD A Session With The Remains, "...a legendary studio performance...of such explosive exuberance and muscular force...a relgious totem of all that was manic and marvelous about mid'60s pop...") www.theremains.com
“Live at the Surf” will be the first of more than a dozen shows being planned at the Regent to honor a span of over five decades of New England music history, and to benefit, in part, the Boston Rock & Roll Museum. Each event will focus on the particular club that was the hub of the music scene during a particular era: upcoming shows now in the works include “Live at the Channel,” “Live at Jack’s,” “Live at the Rat,” and “Live at Club 47.”
The Boston Rock & Roll Museum
has recently established the New England Music Archive at the Regent
Theatre, where thousands of posters, photos,
music magazines, newspaper articles, recordings, and countless other
items of music memorabilia are being organized and documented. The archive
is a major step towards establishing a brick and mortar home for the
museum that is currently only virtual at www.dirtywater.com. |
