Join host Áine Minogue (harp/vocals) with Scottish guitar virtuoso Tony McManus and DruidStone as they celebrate the symbolism of the Winter Solstice as found in the various Celtic regions (Ireland, Wales, Scotland, Brittany). This Pan-Celtic odyssey is nothing less than an enchanting evening of music, storytelling, and tradition that is appropriate for all and designed to warm a winter's night. Aine Minogue, an expert in the area of holiday traditions, and guests journey into the heart of the more contemplative side of the season.
Áine Minogue--born in Borrisokane, County Tipperary--is an artist who has long explored the themes and traditions of Celtic music and who captures its very essence. Her voice reflects the lyricism and richness to be found in Irish music, mythology and poetry; a voice that is undeniably her own and presented in a diverse group of instruments that add to the traditional flavor of her work. A highly respected artist, Aine Minogue has recorded for BMG, SoundsTrue, North Star, and has added her touch to numerous Celtic compilations; One of her ealrier recordings, "To Warm a Winter's Night," and the impetus to begin the live version of the same name, was named one of the top ten albums by the Boston Globe.
Tony McManus - To find a unique voice on so ubiquitous an instrument as the acoustic guitar is quite an achievement; to do so within a centuries old idiom where the instrument has no real history is truly remarkable. In little over ten years as a professional musician Tony McManus has come to be recognised throughout the world as the leading guitarist in Celtic Music.
Press Quotes:
Minogue -
"Minogue's roots are in traditional Irish harp music, which she performs with angelic grace..." --STEVE MORSE, BOSTON GLOBE
"Áine Minogue is a most versatile singer and harpist, a craftsman of balance, taste and skill, always conscientious and reasoned, and beautiful in her art." --CELTIC BEAT
"This Irish harpist combines a hypnotic Celtic spirituality and contemporary sophistication in her playing and delicately lovely singing." --SCOTT ALARIK, BOSTON GLOBE
"It is in performance that the real Áine Minogue emerges...through her sheer talent as a musician and storyteller." --THE GUARDIAN, IRELAND
McManus -
"Just as guitarists were feeling it was safe to assume that Mr. McMonster couldn't get any better, he has, blast him... Gratuitous flash only appears often enough to make you smile (or weep, if you're a guitarist). It takes a real musician with serious taste to hold such ferocious technique in check... Ceol More sings clearly of a musician able to grow and spread his wings without leaving his roots behind. Blast him again!" --Rob Adams, THE HERALD, SCOTLAND
"proved not just technically brilliant but radiated an inspired regard for the music... word that came to mind for much of it was 'grace'." --Jim Gilchrist, THE SCOTSMAN
"mesmerising, beautifully articulated pearls from a complete musician." --Alan Murray, LIVING TRADITION
