Directed by J. Scott Brumit with music direction by Jeffrey Brody, Falstaff is a comic tale of an overweight, drunken and bumbling character who loves a good scheme almost as much as the vast amounts of food and drink he consumes. But when the tables are turned, deception, disguise and the resulting fun take over. Falstaff will be costumed, fully staged, and sung in English with piano accompaniment. The opera will have six performances at four different venues throughout Greater Boston. Christ Episcopal Church1132 Highland Ave. NeedhamOctober 28………..8 pm Acton Congregational Church Congregation Shimat Hayam of the North Shore Regent Theatre “Longwood Opera is very excited about presenting Verdi’s final work and only the second of his twenty-six operas written as a comedy, ” said J. Scott Brumit, Longwood Opera’s General Director. “With Verdi’s magnificent score and lyrics in English, it’s still Shakespeare’s story, but we think that offering a more modern day approach to the plot, setting and costumes will give the audience a unique experience and a special treat.” Ticket prices at the door are $20 general admission, $15 for seniors, $12 for students and $10 for children 10 and under. Tickets may be purchased at reduced prices when ordered by mail. About Longwood Opera Longwood Opera, Inc., was founded in 1986 to fill a void in New England’s performing arts network. After students graduate from the universities and conservatories in the Boston area, they have the skills necessary to make a career as opera singers, but they lack the opportunity and venue to use their talents. Longwood Opera gives talented, Boston-based singers a chance to polish their performing skills so that they become successful artists. So far over 500 singers have performed as members of the company. In 1995, we adopted the slogan “Opera For All!”Ô. This expresses our goal to make opera accessible to everyone, especially to those who might otherwise not have access to this wonderful art form. This program is sponsored in part by the Needham and Acton-Boxborough Cultural Councils, local agencies, which are supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
