THE LEGENDARY U.S. PERFORMANCE DEBUT AND SO MUCH MORE: “AMERCIAN LANDING: JIMI HENDRIX LIVE AT MONTEREY” TO MAKE NEW ENGLAND THEATRICAL PREMIERE AT ARLINGTON’S REGENT THEATRE OCTOBER 12 American Landing: Jimi Hendrix Live At Monterey will receive its New England Premiere at the Regent Theatre in Arlington on Friday, October 12—three days after making it’s World Premiere at Hollywood’s landmark Egyptian Theatre at the closing night of the Mods & Rockers mini-film festival. American Landing traces Jimi Hendrix’s remarkable transformation from obscurity to his triumph at 1967’s Monterey Festival, and features previously unreleased performances and the entirety of his Monterey set in its original sequence—newly transferred from the original negative—with a new 5.1 soundtrack mixed by Hendrix engineer Eddie Kramer, along with new and previously-unseen interviews. Directed by Bob Smeaton whose credits include Festival Express, Jimi Hendrix: The Dick Cavett Show; Hendrix: Band of Gypsys; and The Beatles Anthology, American Landing will be preceded by the New England Theatrical Premiere of the full 30-minute version of Martin Scorsese’s short film "Hendrix And The Blues"– featuring Hendrix, Buddy Guy, BB King and many more. Forty years ago Jimi Hendrix returned to his native country and, in one fell swoop, changed the musical landscape for all time. It was the galvanizing, US debut performance of The Jimi Hendrix Experience at The Monterey International Pop Festival that propelled Hendrix and his band mates, Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, to the top ranks of international rock royalty. It’s a remarkable visual and aural document that reconfirms what the Monterey audience bore witness to on June 18, 1967: Hendrix’s unbridled talent and flair for showmanship are unparalleled in the annals of music. The Jimi Hendrix Experience’s Monterey concert was introduced by none other than Brian Jones, the Rolling Stones’ guitarist whose presence at the festival amounted to a kind of benediction by an acknowledged rock god. He knew full well who he was introducing as Hendrix had moved to London fewer than nine months earlier and achieved icon status in the U.K. in very short order. His conquest of his native land, though, would be achieved almost instantaneously at Monterey. The Jimi Hendrix Experience Live At Monterey offers all existing film footage of that epochal performance presented in its original sequence. The original 16mm camera reversal footage shot by D.A. Pennebaker’s Monterey Pop film crew has been transferred to high-definition specs and is presented in its original theatrical aspect ratio of 1.33:1. The film soundtrack features new 5.1 surround and 2.0 stereo mixes by Eddie Kramer, the engineer so closely associated with the Jimi Hendrix and his legacy, from the original eight-track live recordings made at the concert by remote engineer Wally Heider. American Landing includes previously unreleased interviews with Mitchell and Redding—and Jimi Hendrix, himself. American Landing: Jimi Hendrix Live At Monterey will screen on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30pm (special “Midnight Show”) at the historic Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St. (just off Mass. Ave.) in Arlington, Massachusetts. Tickets are $7 in advance, $10 day of show. For tickets and more info call 781-646-4849 or visit www.regenttheatre.com. The Regent is MBTA and handicap accessible with free parking across the street.
