“MISGIVINGS”—A ONE-MAN COMEDY ABOUT GROWING UP CATHOLIC —COMING TO ARLINGTON’S REGENT THEATRE DECEMBER 9 & 10, 2006

Boston Premiere Promises Belly Laughs, Blessings, Blarney, and Bingo

On Saturday and Sunday, December 9 and 10, The Regent Theatre in Arlington will present the Boston Premiere of Misgivings in which Father Patrick Aloysius Misgivings offers a “divine” evening of stories and one-liners about growing up Catholic.  From miracles and marriage counseling to bazaars and birth control, nothing escapes the good father’s razor sharp wit. This interactive comedy includes a collection, a raffle, and even an actual game of bingo!
In the Beginning
Little did Dave Kane know that a prank call to a radio talk show would result in the creation of a character that would keep Dave’s collection basket full for 30 years.  As the story goes, Dave was working as a producer for a local radio talk show when one day, when the calls were a little slow, Dave decided to help the host by calling in pretending to be an Irish Catholic priest.  The host started asking questions and Dave adlibbed some answers.  When the host asked the good father what his name was, Dave choked.  Then he had a vision of Barry Fitzgerald—the actor who played “Father Fitzgibbons,” a kindly old pastor in the movie, “Going My Way.” That’s when Dave heard himself say, “MISGVINGS”. “ My name is Father Patrick Aloysius MISGIVINGS.” A star was born.

The Masses
The listening audience was immediately charmed, and soon, Father Misgivings was performing at roasts, testimonials, banquets and political fundraisers, as well as opening for acts like Art Garfunkel, Jerry Vale, Al Martino, and others.  There were radio commercials, television shows, and newspaper articles about the “Holy Hot Sketch.” Then in 1997, Dave decided to produce a Dinner Theater show simply entitled, “MISGIVINGS,” which has since played to capacity crowds all over Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts.

The Creator
Dave Kane has been a performer all of his life.  He has been in broadcasting since he was 14 working as a disc jockey, talk show host, and commercial producer.  He has worked as a weekly columnist for newspapers and web sites.  Dave’s voice has been heard on thousands of local and national television and radio commercials and documentaries.  Recently, Dave has written a book entitled “41 Signs of Hope” about his son, Nicky, who was the youngest person to die in the 2003 Station Nightclub fire in Rhode Island.  Says Dave, "I am thrilled to be finally bringing "MISGIVINGS" to Boston.  This town is a great fit for the Good Father."

Misgivings has its Boston debut at The Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St., Arlington on Saturday, December 9 at 8pm and Sunday, December 10 at 2pm.  Reserved seats are $27.50, $22.50 for seniors, and $20.00 for groups of 10 or more.  The Regent Theatre, “Arlington’s Show Place of Entertainment” since 1916—currently celebrating its 90th Anniversary—is MBTA and wheelchair accessible with free parking across the street.
