Sequel to sold-out original makes U.S. premiere at Arlington’s Regent Theatre

April 1, 2005, (Boston, MA) –- Local creators of The MOMologues have taken a fresh peek into the vast underground of motherhood hilarity, resulting in the U.S. premiere of MOMologues 2: Off to School, at The Regent Theatre in Arlington, from May 12 – 14. This time around the show’s creators – girlfriend playwrights and real life mothers Lisa Rafferty, Stefanie Cloutier and Sheila Eppolito - expose the multitasking mania and the rest of the comedy of parenting during the elementary school years.

“Motherhood in the elementary years has its own universal truths,” said Lisa Rafferty, who also directs the show. “We all speak homework hell,” said Rafferty. More than 6,000 Boston-area fans have seen the original play, including last year’s sold-out Regent performance. Rafferty pursued the idea for the first show in 2001, when she searched in vain for a funny play about moms that she might direct after the birth of her daughter.

“The MOMologues blossomed,” said Rafferty “because all of the stories in it are true, and the audience knows that. So there’s a lot of nodding, and shared stories among audience members as they leave the show.” Rafferty and her colleagues have watched their baby leave the borders: the show recently concluded a 30-city tour across The Netherlands.

“Moms made it clear early on that the material covered by our first show – which includes getting pregnant, labor and delivery, the newborn experience, and ends with the oldest child going to first grade – was a mere glimpse into what we now understand to be a lifetime commitment to celebrating mothering mayhem.”
