BOSTON MUSICIANS UNITE ON STAGE TO BENEFIT BRAIN TUMOR SOCIETY
SATURDAY, APRIL 9, 2005, 8:00 PM AT ARLINGTON'S REGENT THEATRE
Debut Celebrate Success and Hope Concert To Feature Noel, Sam Hooper and JoJo David

The Regent Theatre in Arlington, Massachusetts will host a special fundraising concert for the Brain Tumor Society on Saturday April 9, 2005 at 8pm. The event will feature performances from acclaimed Boston-area musicians Noel, Sam Hooper and JoJo David, and will inaugurate Noel’s Celebrate Success and Hope benefit concert series. Reserved seats are $25 and $40 (VIP ticket with preferred seating, limited edition CD, and backstage meet & greet after the show).

Noel
With her otherworldly soprano voice and evocative lyrics over a surreal musical landscape, Noel takes pop music and transforms it into something fresh and nearly impossible to categorize. She grew up by the sea in a small Rhode Island fishing village, moved to Boston, and graduated summa cum laude from the Boston Conservatory of Music, having studied classical voice and piano. After singing with the Boston Pops, Tanglewood Festival Chorus, and John Oliver Chorale—including concerts in front of capacity crowds at Boston’s Symphony Hall—Noel developed an intense drive to create her own music and sound. She wrote and recorded many lyrically lush, and emotionally moving songs with Boston producer John Weston of Futura Productions—music that captured the ears of LA-based producers Christian B and Marc Dold of SAF Music, who have produced radio hits and remixes for many premiere recording artists such as Enya, Celine Dion, Norah Jones, Sarah Brightman, and others. Noel's voice has also inspired film composer Brian Tyler, who has featured her vocals in The Fourth Floor (starring William Hurt), Jane Doe (starring Teri Hatcher), The Big Empty (Kelsey Grammer), and the Children of Dune mini-series. She is also a featured artist on Get Ya Self Up! (Yellow Rose Music, 2004), a compilation CD benefiting breast cancer awareness. The Regent event will present a rare opportunity to see and hear Noel perform her original material on stage as a leader. About the concert, Noel says, “Like many of us I recently lost a close friend to a disease that the doctors didn't fully understand and couldn't cure. In order to do whatever I can to help, I've launched the Celebrate Success and Hope concert series. We have gathered some great musicians and put together a very special event to raise money for research in finding a cure. There is tremendous hope for the future, and with small contributions like mine and yours, I know that we will succeed." (Noel is producing a limited run of signed and numbered CDs—available that night—which include songs featured during the benefit performance.)

Sam Hooper
Sam Hooper is an Award-winning songwriter and 14-year veteran of the Boston music scene. An alumnus of the Berklee College of Music and University of Miami School of Music, he has performed in Switzerland, Japan and China, and won numerous Berklee School of Music songwriter/performer awards. As a member of the Vykki Vox and Angela McClenton Bands he
entertained audiences at the original House of Blues, in Cambridge, MA, the Beale St. Festival in Memphis, TN and CBGB's Gallery in New York City. He struck out on his own three years ago and has been a featured performer at Boston's NEMO Music Conference & Showcase, the Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival in Florida, the first annual New England Songwriters Festival in New Hampshire, and on the benefit CDs Live at the Kendall for the Cam Neely Cancer Fund and A Chance for Peace for Educators for Social Responsibility. Steve Morse of the Boston Globe calls Hooper "a fiery player, clearly influenced by Jimi Hendrix and Living Colour's Vernon Reid."

JoJo David
Writer, vocalist, and educator JoJo David is also an inspiring five-year cancer survivor. His debut CD, Small Hours, was released last fall to critical acclaim and steady exposure. Recorded with jazz pianist and Julliard alumnus, Adam Birnbaum, the vocal ballad album was hailed as "exquisite" by Ron Della Chiesa, host of WGBH radio's "Jazz Songbook." A studio singer and former member of a cappella group Five O’clock Shadow, JoJo gained national recognition in 1997 for his song "Tribute," which earned Best Original Song at the National Harmony Sweepstakes Competition. The song has since become a graduation anthem for college and high schools across the country. An alumnus of the University of Colorado at Boulder and the Berklee College of Music, he also earned his Master's degree in Music (with honors) from the New England Conservatory, concentrating in Jazz Studies. In addition to performing, JoJo is the vocal director of Boston College’s jazz ensemble, BC bOp!.

Praise For Noel

"Noel's surreal vocals have been instrumental in setting the mood in some of my most important films. Noel has one of the purest tones and haunting voices of any singer I've worked with.” --Brian Tyler, film composer for Constantine

“Noel is a female singer/songwriter with star quality, reminiscent of Tori Amos and Sarah McLaughlin—an amazing voice with something important to say" --Christian B. and Marc Dold from S.A.F.—producers and remixers of such hits as Celine Dion's "A New Day" and Enya's "Only Time"

“As program director for VH1, I've heard a lot of music, but I really felt a personal connection with Noel's music.”--Julio Kollerbohm, VH1
