ULTRASONIC PRODUCTIONS AND ARLINGTON’S REGENT THEATRE TO PRESENT "A NIGHT AT THE ROCK OPERA" SATURDAY, MAY 14, 2004 AT 8PM
Songs From J.C. Superstar, Tommy, Queen, Plus Original Mini-Opera To Be Featured

Local Boston filmmakers and musicians Sal Clemente and Alan Ware don't know when to quit. They've spent the last three years arranging, producing and recording a brand new version of Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber's soundtrack to "Jesus Christ Superstar." As if that weren't enough, they've also been filming the entire process as part of a documentary called Looking For Jesus.

Now, in conjunction with Arlington's Regent Theatre, they're presenting some of their JCS arrangements live for the very first time. "We'll be performing five songs from Superstar including 'Gethsemane,' 'What's the Buzz?' 'Superstar,' and Everything's Alright," says Sal Clemente, director of the film. "We'll also be doing some of the greatest rock theatre songs ever written—songs that are rarely performed live because of the difficulty in reproducing the vocals."

Alan Ware, producer of the film and drummer for the show, adds, "I'm going to do my best Keith Moon impression on several songs from Tommy, by The Who, and then to top things off we're going to do several songs by the band Queen, including 'Bohemian Rhapsody' and 'Somebody To Love.' These are songs that should have been in rock operas!"

An all-star ensemble of up-and-coming and established Boston rockers—including Chris Cote, Peter Montgomery, Rod Eymael, Jennifer Truesdale and Naoko Takamoto—will bring these masterpieces of epic rock to life. Alan Ware says, "This just might be the most outstanding group of singers you're likely to hear in one place. And they absolutely rip-up this material."

Adds the Regent Theatre’s Leland Stein, “Not only will the audience be witness to these extraordinary vocalists, but they’ll be backed by a boatload of exceptional instrumentalists, too—altogether, over 30 musicians will perform on our stage that night!”

"The best part of the night just may be the mini-rock opera we're writing exclusively for this event, says Clemente. “In fact, I can literally guarantee that it will never be performed again!" If you dig into the extras on the School of Rock DVD, you'll find a bit where Jack Black begs Led Zeppelin for permission to use one of their songs. That's what our mini-opera is—essentially us begging Andrew Lloyd Webber to let us rock out on Superstar. And you know it's a good idea because we swiped it from Jack Black."

Ware adds, "Sometimes you just have to get down on your knees and beg for something if you really want it and that's something we're completely prepared to do."

As a final incentive Clemente teases, "There's also going to be mucho audience participation, so if you really want to rock and you've got the pipes to prove it, make sure you get down to the Regent that night—and I do mean get down!"
