“IT’S GONNA BE AN ELVIS CHRISTMAS” FEATURING DONNY EDWARDS WITH VELVET ELVIS COMING DECEMBER 13-17 TO ARLINGTON’S REGENT THEATRE
Wednesday, December 13 Performance Will Be Offered Exclusively and At No Cost To Military Members, Military Base Personnel, and Their Families
One of the world’s top Elvis Presley tribute artists, Donny Edwards, will return to the Regent Theatre stage for five performances of It’s Gonna Be An Elvis Christmas December 13 through December 17, 2006. The multiple award-winning Edwards—who captures the essence of the King with his amazing looks, voice, and moves—will perform classic hits from throughout Presley’s career along with selected holiday favorites backed by Velvet Elvis, Boston’s best tribute to the early days of rock. To kick-off the engagement on December 13, the Regent—through the Boston office of the USO—will throw open its doors to Military members, Military Base Personnel, and their families with an exclusive free performance.

"It's Elvis!!!" scream many folks when they first see Donny Edwards--they can't believe their eyes.  His strong resemblance to the King has gotten him acclaim throughout the world.  But Edwards is not just another pretty face.  His voice is just as outstanding.  He recreates--in every detail--the look, voice, moves, and stage presence of Elvis Presley from the young 1950s rock ‘n’ roll icon to the Vegas Elvis of the 1970s.  Edwards started performing in 2002 in Texas when his family talked him into joining a local Elvis Impersonator Contest—the first of many such contests he has won throughout the US.  While Edwards performs daily in Las Vegas, he has also appeared around the world in such exotic places as Argentina, Cancun, and Hong Kong and recently had a role singing on the soap opera, "The Young and The Restless."  Last year, he won the Gibson Guitar Company’s 2005 Peoples Choice Award for the Best ‘50s Elvis, and this year, Edwards was voted 2006 Grand Champion of “Tribute To The King” at the Isle of Capri in Mississippi where he performed with the legendary Jordanaires. He was also invited to Mississippi last June where he performed at the Tupelo Festival commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Elvis returning to his birthplace.

Says the Regent Theatre’s Leland Stein, “This will be the third time this year that we will have Donny in concert, but the first time where he’ll performing material from Elvis’s entire career. The audience response to our Elvis tributes has been amazing and we are looking forward to bringing Donny back for a very special holiday show—this time backed by Velvet Elvis, a fabulous bunch of all-star Boston musicians including members of Beatlejuice, The Fools, and The Nervous Eaters.  And, we’re very pleased to offer the December 13 show for free as a thank you to members of the armed services.  As for the other four shows, we’ve already had a bunch of groups calling who want to bring their office or family holiday party to the Regent so we are expecting a totally electric atmosphere every night of the engagement. ”

It’s Gonna Be An Elvis Christmas will be staged at the Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St. in Arlington Center Thursday, Friday, and Saturday December 14, 15, and 16 at 8pm, and Sunday, December 17 at 2pm. (The Wednesday, December 13 free performance for the military is not open to the general public.)  Reserved seats are $22.50, $27.50, and $32.50 with group rates available.   For tickets and more info, call 781-646-4849 or visit www.regenttheatre.com.  The historic Regent Theatre—currently celebrating its 90th anniversary as “Arlington’s Show Place of Entertainment”—is MBTA and handicap accessible with free parking across the street.
